Yesterday, Chris Matthews posed this question on his Sunday show. Most presidents have used their middle names when being sworn in--except 2--Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter.

Will Barack Hussein Obama include his middle name when being sworn in?

I say yes.

No, he will not win re-election if the public knew his middle name is.........

Wolf Blitzer: Breaking news! President Obama's middle name is Hussein!

Yeah the public doesn't know Barack's middle name is Hussein. Is this supposed to be a real post?

I got the impression the poster was joking.

Now, nobody go reading too deep into my post, but isn't it just a little eerie? His name, the war, Osama, Sadam, Hussein..just kinda creepy. I'm sure it's because of the timeline. Again, nobody read what I'm not saying, I just find it ironic, and eerie is all.

No. It's not.

Who cares?

For some reason, I don't care about his middle name being used or not.

You may be surprised. Right before the election my husband came home ranting and raving about it. I was like seriously, you never heard that his middle name was Hussein and what the hell does that matter. Then after more thought, I realized he doesn't watch Fox news alot or come into contact with people like NP too often. It's just something you figure most people know about but some still don't.

Yeah my wife is politically retarded too. She knows the names of most characters on that show Heroes.

One of the choices is "I don't care".
It's a trivial matter that make no difference in the larger scheme of things.
The economy isn't going to suddenly rebound because he doesn't use his middle name.

Funny Chris Mathews I don't think ever mentioned his middle name during the election.

Must have been distracted from all the tingling.

His middle name is nothing to be ashamed of. I think it is despicable when people try to use middle name as something he should be ashamed of or try to use as some sort alleged connection to the rumor he is a muslim. Here in American names do not mean ****. When I was in the Army I seen soldiers whose first name was the same as his last name and soldiers whose last name was "Gay","Bengay","Gaybe" and "Beegay". I bet their name was the butt of many jokes. I also knew soldier whose first and last name was the same.

Whatever, Phoenix. For an issue you don't care about, you're sure taking the time to address it to some extent. The "I don't care" response relates to one not caring whether Obama uses his middle name--not whether someone doesn't care about my question. But keep at it if it makes you feel better.

I find your conclusion that it "make [sic] no difference in the larger scheme of things" to be weird. Does every poll question have to have the purpose of making a difference in the larger scheme of things? If so, please enlighten me.

Same with your comment about the economy. Who said anything about the economy?

I have to agree with you--the man was tingling in a major way over Obama.

I once met a guy named John Jhon. Yeah.....that was pretty awkward.

Since you included an option for "I Don't Care" I assumed you wanted input from that crowd also.

We have the Russians placing warships to the south of us.
The worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.
A federal Government that wants to place troops inside the United States.
We are selling our country to China and other foreign countries in a futile effort to save the economy.
We are at "war" in a foreign country.

In light of those things, whether or not someone uses their middle name during a ceremony seems especially trivial.

I was in the Navy.
An E-3 is refered to as a Seaman.
A poor guy's last name was Eder.
Therefore he was Seaman Eder.
He caught hell.

Yes, yes, Phoenix. We have all these things going on right now and you're making time to spend in this thread. That makes no sense to me. Have a nice day.

I hope he uses it and does so defiantly in response to all the baseless smears about him being a terrorist because of it.

I agree with you and he should not be embarrassed to use it and should be proud to use it. Anyone criticizing him just for his name needs an enema anyway.

I didn't see ANY smears about Obama being a terrorist. Where did you see this happening? This truly is news to me.

Oh it was all over the place. The New Yorker even did a cover satirizing the smears.

Will Barack Obama use his middle name at the inauguration?
The final answer is yes. Obama says he will follow tradition and use his full name.

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Barack Obama said in an interview with a US newspaper he will follow tradition and be sworn in as US president using his full name, including his middle name Hussein.

During the presidential campaign, some of Obama's political opponents referred to his middle name in an attempt to portray him as a secret Muslim with alleged ties to extremists.

But Obama, a lifelong Christian, told the Chicago Tribune that he would adhere to custom for the inauguration ceremony.

"I think the tradition is that they use all three names, and I will follow the tradition," Obama told the Tribune, which posted the interview on its website late Tuesday.

"I'm not trying to make a statement one way or another. I'll do what everybody else does."

His Republican rival John McCain reprimanded a supporter at one point during the campaign for referring to Obama by his full name, saying it was "inappropriate."

When endorsing Obama in October, former secretary of state Colin Powell criticized those spreading false rumors claiming Obama as a Muslim, saying it reflected religious prejudice.
