This has become bizarrely politicized, but with more states imposing mask-wearing requirements hopefully the number of mask-wearers is growing. Are you wearing one in public?

Yes.

I know it won't keep me from getting infected. But if I'm a carrier, it could keep me from spreading the virus to others.

Taking a walk, driving, getting gas? No.

In a store? Yes.

Yes. Where I live there's a $300 fine for not wearing one, although I would wear one anyway because it's a really easy thing to do and it helps protect other people.

Most of the time when out and about, but not all the time... so, shame on me.

I voted "Sometimes."

This because I follow rules in both my workplace and any business that requires one be worn in order to do business.

Otherwise? I prefer to enjoy the free air without one.

I do however honor the 6 foot rule as a courtesy to others.

No, unless the location requires it and I have no alternative location - specifically the doctor's office.

We know that in fact the Democratic Party doesn't care if people wear masks or not for their massive support of huge protest gatherings where people aren't wearing masks.

The protesters where I live almost always wear masks. I would not approve of them either if they weren't.

I do what Cap'n wrote above.

Yes.

Preventing the spread of the disease is the reason for masks. It bandanas and standard masks won't prevent catching disease. I wear a bandana, it's easier to pull up and down....like my pants. ;)

No need to wear one if social distancing, but once that distance closes to less than 6 feet, it's courteous to wear a mask. I'm against authoritarian measures to force mask wearing; We, the People don't need anymore cops beating people to enforce masks. I fully support good leadership and education programs to persuade Americans to do the right thing; wear a mask, practice social distancing, follow the guidelines. Unfortunately, our "leaders" don't know squat about leadership.

FWIW, I think I had it last week and then my wife had similar symptoms once I was recovering: headache, fever, chills, loss of appetite, nausea, no nasal congestion (meaning it wasn't flu), a really nasty tender abdomen on right side. Wife's were similar except no tender abdomen and no chills. Her headache lasted three days, mine for less than two. Both had nausea (hence loss of appetite) but neither puked. My wife slept a lot more than me; I slept almost entirely the first real full day of symptoms, she almost three days. Neither of us were tested.

Only when required.

Absolutely. I'm not an idiot.

I snagged this from Twitter yesterday, and now it's in my signature. "A mask is not a political statement. It's an IQ test."

Absolutely. I'm not an asshole. Which also means that I should acknowledge that 99% of my local compatriots won't wear their damn masks, even if they have the means and access to it and do not have a medical condition that would inhibit the use of masks.

I am overcoming a confirmed sinus infection (COVID-19 negative result), and I figured that I would make sure to allay fears if I happen to let a cough go by.

How about you not make this a political issue. Anyone who does not wear a mask in crowds or in stores is a really dumb idea

I wear one out of courtesy, not to conform.

Always - since day 1.

If I were sick and coughing, I would avoid going in public, and if I had to go out: wear a mask. The majority of the time when I am not, I will not. If your businesses requires them, I will go elsewhere. Mask-wearing by the general pubic is idiotic and will only increase your chances of getting sick. Your little theoies of this lowering transmission is the same genius "theory" confirmed wrong in study after study, where homes to filter out bacteria, creating a perfect environment for harmful bacteria to cause more health issue including deadly immune responses. There a reason hospitals are not good longterm care facilities. You want to filter your living environment, use plants....sterile environments are for specific high-risk circumstances like surgery or when your immune-compromised.

I am sure though you're all being super responsible with your disposal/cleaning, are wearing your masks correctly and supplementing for the lower oxygenation and breathing strain for your health  I suppose, there are silver linings like increasing our general ability to absorb oxygen in high pollution environments, alas this general belief these things are protecting you and your community/family is mass-delusion. I am sure there is no risk of more superbugs as a result of over-sanitization, which is less effective than handwashing and UV. And at best what we get your lower transmission rate, which only lengthens the curve. At some point people need to accept if one is susceptible to covid-19, they will at some point get covid-19. But, alas we have this hope "they" will cure the flu, showing yet again the blurred line most people have between science and magic. :peace

PS: you can burnout outbreaks, when dealing with a high mortality, clear symptoms virus (like a flame that burns too hot) - covid-19 is high-transmission mostly asymptomatic virus like a common flu. Different beast.

I wear a mask if I'm indoors in public. Outdoors I just avoid people. I checked yes, but it probably should have been sometimes. I'm quite introverted so social distancing is easy for me.

WTF? Not picking on anyone on this thread of 20 posts, but isn't it common understanding that, as the thread title states, wearing masks in "public"? Not banging the wife/GF, not at home watching TV, not driving alone/with family and other "private" situations or cases of greater than 6 feet social distancing?

Without fail. I don't want somebody's loved one to die because I have some weird political agenda. Christ, you'd think we were asking them to wear a 90 pound bag of concrete around their neck....with barbed wire.
