I've seen left wingers say Trump has killed the nation. I'm curious about what others think.

Trump is another in a long line of corporate approved stooges. The nation has been for sale since Buckley v. Valeo opened the money faucet with a wide nozzle. Trump has just continued that path. He has been an obedient errand boy for the interests that fund the Republican Party. Trump is an empty vessel who believes in nothing, and can be filled by nefarious elements of the Republican Party.

I find his emoluments issues a disturbing ethical matter. That certainly ranks him among the most corrupt Presidents of our time, but, all of our Presidents are corrupt and have been my whole life. As far as death to the nation though. We've been dealing with corporate capture of both parties for quite some time and Trump has done nothing to change that.

Internally, we can overcome Trump as long as he is not re-elected. Globally we will never regain our former status and level of respect.

What if he gets reelected? What will the future look like?

Is he really one of their stooges? He seems very arrogant, combative and difficult to control. It was my assumption that that's why elite conservatives didn't want him and office and preferred Cruz, a true partisan snake.

For me, he's kept his campaign promises that are important to me. He's built up the military, allowed the men that know the enemy best to destroy the caliphate. A strong military is my biggest concern. As a retiree, my health insurance went up to the point that when Trump took office, my net pay was lower than the year I retired, in 2008. 2018 I finally saw my retirement check increase. Not much, but it's more than I was getting. So, obviously I support the tax cuts and deregulation. I'm a strong supporter of Israel, so I'm very happy that he's repaired our relationship with them. He's trying to control the flood of illegal aliens into our country by strengthening our borders. My only problems I've had with his presidency is his mouth. He comes off as an arrogate ass, and says a lot of stupid stuff. I know he has to promote himself, but I wish when he touts his accomplishments, I wish he would use the word "we", or, "My administration". The way he keeps saying "I" this and "I" that, just makes him look like a braggart. I just wish he would show a little humility once in a while.

Yes, he certainly is a corporate stooge. I'll give you an example. To establishment types Trump tweeting things revealing a lack of decorum is a bigger controversy than his administration's attempts to overthrow Maduro. They actually support that decision.

This basically.

It's largely the same old, albeit with less poise, subtlety and refinement than his predecessors; Trump is happy to play ball with the mega rich and corporations, and in large part because he himself is one and personally benefits. Hell, George W Bush was a worse president by most measures, and the only reason Trump can even begin to compete with him is COVID-19, which he cannot wholly be blamed for, despite his inept handling.

Yeah, he's just so brazen about it. Like making a defense contractor our SoD. Putting bankers at the head of Treasury is nothing new. But, it's basically whoever the top lobbyist for the industry that has donated big time to GOP, they get to regulate their own industry and give kickbacks to their buddies. It's a corruption orgy.

What if he gets reelected? What will the future look like?

It will be a national disaster and will likely begin a process of disintegration both culturally and politically. He can only win via the EC and he will lose the popular vote by millions again. There is only so much the majority can bear. It will not be pretty.

The balance of power between the President and congress was badly misaligned before Trump. This is one area that the stench of the Trump legacy will linger on for some time. Future presidents are going to simply tell congress to f-off at any attempt of oversight. Obama substantially cooperated with Benghazi hearings even though they were BS out of respect for congressional oversight. Not so much in the future.

Hopefully the SCOTUS comes back and hammers the Trump legal positions to set the precedent so this does not happen again.

Scotus isnt going to change for a very long time.

What is "Scotus not going to change" have to do with anything? There is active litigation going on now, some of which will be determined in 40 days. Most of Trump's positions were overreaches. I am expected SCOTUS to opine correctly on many of them.

It's going to be pretty hard to lift our reputation after him. I wish we could Make America Respected Again.
Can anyone recall any sitting President that was literally laughed at by an audience of World Leaders?

Would you agree that Trump had been the most disruptive president to everyday life?

Watch the six new seats being created by Congress and filled by the President next year after the blue sweep this year.

He's been horrible for national unity.

One can hope but i am genuinely worried the supreme court is going to make the president so immune to any repercussions, the only accountability will be a coup.

If we fixed the undemocratic system that led to Trump in the first place, we could demonstrate that we had our house back in order and I believe we could regain our former status. But if we kick trump out of office but don't fix our system, then you're most likely going to be right.

What system was this? The Russians and Trump again? Life according to Schiffies. ;)

If Trump haters would stop the incessant need to conspire against a duly elected president with their non-stop bs the country would have a better image.

Badly.. catastrophically... permanently ... but also maybe necessarily.

I read an article today about infrastructure. The US is just not as good at doing it as other nations. Building costs more and takes longer in American than in other developed country. Health care is the same thing, we pay more... get less. It's not unions, wages, regulation. The biggest culprit is corporate bloat and selfishness. We've grown fat and complacent. We talk about being the best this and the best that...as if it's just some innate property of being American rather than something that resulted from our work ethic and drive.

Trump is this bloat and selfishness incarnate. He's the mirror.

i'd like for Tweety supporters to apologize and admit how stupid it was to go all in for this moron. then we can move on as a nation, sort of.

I completely agree. Until we abolish the EC, nothing will change and no other nation on earth will ever consider us an example of democratic principles. Our days of preaching about democracy are ending, the world now sees us for what we are, a nation run by archaic systems created solely for the benefit of the few against the many.

Let me make it easy for you.
The ones that support Trump is going to say he has greatly help the nation and the ones that hate him will say he destroyed the nation. Dah
This question reminds me of a reporter who asks a person arrested for a crime on national TV whether he committed the crime. Do you think the answer is yes?
