98,750 as of noon EST May 24th. Ballparking the repeating 7 day reporting pattern, we'll get 800ish deaths total for the 24th and 25th. 25th will be lower than the 24th.
The 26th will be highest in a week.

So we'll cross 100,000 at some point on the 25th or early on the 26th. I'm sure CNN will have a "grim milestone" headline for us.

That number will be reached prior to May 30th. My guess today (24th) or tomorrow.

Of Countries with a population > 10,000,000, the U.S. ranks 9th in #Deaths per million and ranks 2nd in #of cases per million.


It is quite possible that China beats the U.S. in both of those statistics, regardless of the numbers they are reporting.

If may depend on which data source you use. However, using Worldometer, its clear to me it will come close at end of day today, and exceed 100K tomorrow.

5/25 is my estimate..., with not less than 109K on 6/1.

The USA suffered more than 291,000 combat deaths and an additional 113,000+ non-combat deaths during WWII. That's over 400,000 war related deaths. So matching WWII will not happen until the end of the year if trends continue as they have for the last four months.

If your baseline remains 100,000 that was probably reached as a threshold already, since the virus probably killed thousands before we realised it was a new disease. When researchers have time they will probably use post mortem tests on archived blood and tissue samples to get a better handle on the very early stages of this pandemic.

If you mean the official count, then which official count do you mean? Based on the data which I follow where the USA has 97,457 deaths right now, I would estimate you folks will reach that appaling threshold by Monday night or early Tuesday morning. So sometime around the 26th of May I am sorry to say.
