Florida is about the size and pop of Sweden at near 10 million. Brit is 60 million. Italy also 60 million. Spain 46 million.

FL is more like 20 million, still not near Britain.

That doubled while I wasn't looking. And there's geographic size, thus population density, to consider.

The snowbirds and retirees flock down here for the cheap housing and warm weather. One-third of FL is everglades, parks, orange groves, and pastures.

Dade County is one giant suburb and has had a population density sufficient to support its public rail for decades. That has flowed into Broward County. Then we have Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville, which are domestic tourist destinations. Then Gainesville and Tallahassee, college towns.

The great divide in Florida is Lake Okeechobee. South of the lake is international suburbs. North of the lake is southern Georgia. Fitting the highway intersection at the north tip of the lake is YeeHaw Junction. North of that, one might see a cowboy hat.

I was raised in J-ville. It's a very working-class, bible-belt town, and huge area wise. Orlando is a big sprawling city with lakes, burgs, Disney, studios and dirty Orange Blossom Trail.

Raised in Miami and lived in Gainesville for years. How much time have you spent south of the Lake?
