    Self-absorbed

Reason for that word is how US is immune to any criticism coming from outside of US. I feel like US is full of itself and that's it. Exceptionalism is also part of that phenomenon. American(US) way is always the absolutely best, superior in all possible ways. That feature also ensures bad things and keep them untouched. For example: corruption, insane income inequality, growing homelessness - all of those things are accepted as "It's American way, move on". US also suck at recycling, elections (US have some real psychos in politics, those weird guys who are not interested helping working class, keeping wages low so f*cking long while education and healthcare is getting more expensive every year. But when majority of US folks think that they are so good at everything - whatever it is - there's absolutely ZERO change coming. )

Feel free to point out how out of touch I am

EDIT: google messed up, now it's closer to what I mean... (I suck at english)

It must have something going for it, seeing that we have the highest immigration numbers on the planet.

Most Americans are decent people. But we also know that it is a cruel dangerous world out there with some bad actors. We know that only the strong survive. Sad but true. (Your English is probably better than most Americans).

We're not self absorbed. We're a very large country, twice the size of Europe. Florida is bigger than Britain, for example. Our news is a lot more interesting than news you find in Europe too.

A better word is "insular" meaning we don't notice the outside world very much.

Trump, chaos, money: What Canada, Mexico think of US, Pew poll says

The United States and what it means to be American represent different things to different people, but for Canadians and Mexicans - themselves continental Americans - the very first words that come to mind when thinking about the U.S. relate to the current occupier of the White House and economics, according to a survey published Monday by Pew Research Center, a Washington, D.C.-based public opinion research group.

In a nutshell: "Trump," "money" and "work."

President Donald Trump's last name is by far the most frequently mentioned word in Canada, followed by various mostly negative characteristics such as "chaos," "confused" and "bully." In Mexico, Trump also features prominently in response to the question. But the most commonly cited words are "money," "work" and "migration," alongside more negative expressions like "discrimination" and "racism." (end)
    narcissism

Too many Americans think that themselves or that their country is special but don't do a damn thing to make it that way, instead preferring to stick to an ideology that hasn't worked since the early 1900s.
"This is America - and here, right matters."
