Should the world force China to close these "wet markets?" Boycotting China would be one way to get them to comply.
Hell YES! The irony is that eating these creatures is considered a cultural and MEDICINAL right.

They really don't need to be in charge of any of those supplies or drugs. Considering they threatened to cut off access to these items [because we hurt their honor] it's obviously a major security issue.

    What's the definition of "force"?
Give them an ultimatum, an offer they can't refuse?
    He means nuke'em.

You think we will make clothes?

We will just have to import more foreign labor which opens up a whole another can of worms
Clothes aren't critical technology. Lots of other countries make those.

They should be closed down permanently for the animal cruelty alone.

Chinese are hard core about their wild animal consumption and won't ever give it up -- not voluntarily. They'll fight it as hard as they can and for as long as it takes. Chinese don't change and least of all to please foreign devils.
THREE major pandemics have come from China (at least). We need to weak ourselves away from that country.

While your post is scientifically rational the wild animal trade has its own alternative rationality to include the Party-Government that always continues to allow the wet market trade in wild animals to resume and continue. The market is big bucks in each instance of wild animals to eat and wild animals included in traditional medicine ingredients and features. Too many Chinese people make the big bucks from it and wherever there are big bucks to be made in the CCP-PRC the Party is there with one hand out while the other hand holds the rulebook.

Indeed as real economic growth continues to slow inexorably -- it's now between 2% and 4% -- the Party-Government needs and welcomes the reliable and profitable traditional economic activities that are tried and true which is what the wild animal trade is in its several aspects and impacts. The Party-Government has made no hints, indications, announcements regarding the wild animal trade which means the CCP Boyz are continuing to look the other way while stuffing their pockets with their take of the huge cash it provides. The mother of a Chinese friend here in China is a "doctor" of traditional medicine who lives in a penthouse with her retired school teacher husband where they have their own private garden on the roof. CCP Boyz aren't going to be busting up this huge national racket anytime soon, or at all, and even less because foreign devils are upset.

Moreover the significant number of Chinese throughout the PRC are smirking and glowing about the devastation the Wuhan China Convid-19 Global Plague is wreaking across the USA and also in Europe. I'll say again the Chinese and their plagues make Malthus and the Grim Reaper look like Boy Scouts.
    Very interesting post.

When this is over you are going to see many companies rethink the way they do business. We have the technology now that we didn't have before through the use of GPS, video programs like Skype and other software to hold company meetings wherever one is. No more having to rent some hotel conference room. Smaller meetings will be conducted in the same manner while people work from home. Schlepping to the store will be a thing of the past. No more risking getting sick and spending two-three hours at the market. Groceries ordered online and delivered. The same with many other products including meals.
