End the lockdown today (April 1) and deal with the consequences?

-or-

Keep the lockdown in effect and deal with the consequences?

"Ending the lockdown" means governments lifting all restrictions on business, large gatherings, flights, and cross-border travel. If you believe the best policy falls somewhere between the two extremes, select the closest option in your own good judgment.

Also note that the question pertains to immediate action. If you believe the lockdown should be lifted, but in a week, two weeks, etc., you should cast your vote for "Keep the lockdown in effect".

Please post your reasoning for your vote, particularly if you vote "End the lockdown", since there are many varied and diverse reasons for wanting the lockdown lifted.

Finally, if you vote "Keep the lockdown in effect" and you have a firm idea of how long the lockdown should last, please post this info. However, please only post the figure if it's a definite amount of time, e.g. "2 weeks", "until May 1", etc., and not an indefinite amount of time, e.g. "as long as it takes", "when the number of new cases has dropped below...", "when the experts say so", etc.

"deal with the consequences". Does anyone even know what those consequences would be without self-quarantining and social distancing? Lock down should be nation-wide except of course for those that live in states like Wyoming who have farms that are 50 miles from the nearest town, and even then that's a 'maybe'.

In my opinion, ending any lock down would have consequences so dire and so horrible that it would devastate this country beyond repair. People that live in more rural parts of the country aren't understanding how horrific it is already in parts of this country. It will spread exponentially without lock down in place. You really don't want to live through what people in the NY, NJ and Ct. area are living though right now.

This would have been a much better poll if the two options were broken down into 4, each with the qualifier "I get all my info from FoxNews" or "Avoid FoxNews like avoiding Coronavirus."

That’s still a definite no for me considering the very first cases of confirmed community spread in Ohio were in rural places just like that among people with zero travel history outside of their own county. Just because someone lives in the middle of nowhere doesn’t mean they aren’t going to die. In fact I think there’s a greater risk of that since what healthcare exists in those areas is very limited.

Presumably an April 1st poll because it's joke? This would be the worst moment to lift the lockdown as the infection rate appears to be reaching it's peak in the US right now.

Anyway, when it is lifted, it should (and necessarily will) be something of a staged process rather than a sudden leap back to normal and in a country as large as the US with different regions impacted very differently, it will likely be something of a state-by-state return to normality too.

Stupid poll is stupid.
Painfully stupid.

Only an idiot would want the lockdown lifted today. It's in place for a reason, look beyone conspiracy sites or Fox fake 'news'. When the proper authorities and health professionals deem it's safe to lift the lockdown, that's when it should be lifted, no sooner.

What is shocking is that your question hasn't even surfaced in states such as Florida where the Governor thinks it's critical for his people to be able to hang out at their favorite
beach bar. We will suffer many more deaths thanks in part to dull-witted responses by our Denier in Chief (It's just a hoax. And will disappear by April", and moron governors who
for some reason believe that Floridians are tougher than the thousands of dead Chinese, Italians and Spaniards.

We are all in this together. But many of our leaders failed our society by ignoring the Covid-19 attack.
Now it is too late for America to avoid the worst.

As of this morning the US still had 15 states with zero Covid-19 restrictions.
Thank you to the Governors of FL, TX, GA, ME, AZ, SC, WY, TN, OK, MS, NE, AR, IA. MO. ND & SD!
Your stubborn ignorance has put your citizens at greater risk, and will assure a deadlier deeper and more devastating disaster.

These states will allow the pandemic to spread more broadly -- and kill more Americans -- than would have happened had
the federal government issued a nationwide restriction for all non-essential businesses and organizations to close and all Americans
not essential to our public safety and welfare seclude themselves and maintain safe distances from each other.

For that we can all thank President Trump who on February 5th ignored US Senators who pleaded with him to use the
presidential powers to generate higher emergency production of essential medical equipment and supplies.

Every state for themselves. That's why we will continue seeing higher growth in our death rate.

Ending the lockdown now would be especially stupid. If anything, more states need to lockdown.

Lockdown, what lockdown? Sweden's unusual response to coronavirus - BBC News

While swathes of Europe's population endure lockdown conditions in the face of the coronavirus outbreak, one country stands almost alone in allowing life to go on much closer to normal.

Below is our list of twelve medical experts whose opinions on the Coronavirus outbreak contradict the official narratives of the MSM, and the memes so prevalent on social media.

Following on from our previous list, here are ten more expert voices, drowned out or disregarded by the mainstream narrative, offering their take on the coronavirus outbreak.

Coronavirus is bad: The economic fallout may be more deadly | Zero Hedge | Zero Hedge

The immediate impacts of the Coronavirus worldwide and in the United States is horrific but the economic fallout after this pandemic ends may be more deadly.

None of these people seem like "idiots" to me. YMMV.

I vote keep the lockdown in effect.

The traffic has really gone down in Los Angeles. All freeways are no longer congested, and we can drive 65 anywhere in the city at all hours of the day.

We haven't been able to do that in over 40 years!!

Keep this lock-down going!! :2dancing:

Sweden's limited response is not working all that great.

The BBC is not made up of idiots. But they are reporting way too soon.

The rest are idiots.

Any person who voices a desire to end the lock down needs to be reported to the police for watching.

:doh

You caught it!

Ending the lockdown now would be especially stupid. If anything, more states need to lockdown.

And the damage that's been done to the economy would be for nothing. We would get probably millions of dead, and the economy would still go in the toilet, since millions more sick and dead people dont work and dont buy stuff.

I have tried to explain the way flattening the curve works to the OP...he doesnt get it. See my sig.

I really wish you would have made this poll public! I really want to see who the idiots were who voted to lift the "stay at home" order (which is what it is, it's not a "lock-down" as you erroneously characterize it).

Shutting the country down is just as if not more devastating. Things get ugly quick if they cant keep a roof over their head.

How can it possibly be more devastating than losing over 2 million citizens of this country

They aren't looking at the big picture. Thats a problem, we are very highly leveraged and have a great many very specialized industries. The longer the economy is down the worse its going to be recovery wise. We are already ****ed this year as it is. Too many people are playing ****ing games with peoples lives and livelihood. The combination of the virus shutdown and the Russians and Saudi's having an oil war is going seriously hurt our oil companies abilities to get back in the game when this all over with. Car sales are down over 90%. Unemployment is about to go from the lowest it has been to the highest. Thats a major problem worse than the virus.

Donald Trump concedes US Covid-19 death toll could be 100,000 or more - CNNPolitics

Trump said in reference to the historic stimulus package passed by Congress last week. "Because you are talking about a potential of up to 2.2 million and some people said it could even be higher than that. You are talking about 2.2 million deaths. 2.2 million people from this," Trump said.

Will you DARE to call 'BULL****' on Trump? Huh, will you?
