UPDATE: Governor Gavin Newsom signed an order suspending evictions statewide until further notice.

Yes,

As it turns out, I am a landlord. For my tenants I have asked them to pay 50% of the rent for April. Hopefully employment insurance will have kicked in by the time May's rent is due. I will worry about that when we get there.

After this is over we will work out a repayment plan for the rent in arrears.

With this stimulus package now law, things should work out for most people as individuals, although thanks to too much debt and/or a lack of cash flow, we'll see businesses of all sizes failing or reorganizing under the bankruptcy laws.

There are worse living conditions...perhaps you should read about Paul's living conditions, for the sake of living a Christian life...or John's...they were willing to sacrifice an easy life for the love and obedience of their God...SMH...
How does the Lord feel about those living in luxury while others are starving? Remember the Parable of the Rich Fool?

The point was people generally have options other than death if they're evicted. But why is it monstrous to expect people to honor contracts they signed of their own volition?
Because sometimes they can't live up to those contracts through no fault of their own. We're called to charity.

That's a suspension of evictions, not rents. Once the emergency passes you'll get evicted.

He is not concerned with the wicked now, is He...obviously you have no idea what that parable even means...it has nothing to do with the materially rich and poor but everything to do with those who are supposed to be spiritually rich...the Pharisees, unwilling to share their spiritual knowledge with the common people...SMH...

Fair enough, but whether or not to extend charity is a matter for the landlord's conscience and circumstances. If it's not--if it's compelled--then it isn't really charity, is it?

"Just let your word ‘Yes’ mean yes, your ‘No,’ no, for what goes beyond these is from the wicked one." Matthew 5:37

"Above all, my brothers, stop swearing, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath. But let your “Yes” mean yes and your “No,” no, so that you do not become liable to judgment." James 5:12

It has EVERYTHING to do with them.

Matthew 25: "Then the King will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;*35*for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,*36*I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’*37*Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink?*38*And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee?*39*And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?’*40*And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’*41*Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels;*42*for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,*43*I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’*44*Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?’*45*Then he will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.’*46*And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

The Lord demands we give charity. It's not an option.

So I guess if you take out a loan and then lose your job you'll have to die rather than not pay the debt, right?

How about food then? If I steal a loaf of bread like Jean Valjean, the store is only out a loaf of bread while I'm out of life-sustaining sustenance. Stealing's okay then, right? Assuming you answer affirmatively, what if the store's closed? Can I break in and loot it, or am I required to wait until normal business hours?

Bad analogy... there are soup kitchens, charity, etc. to try and get food. No such thing for rent.

That's a suspension of evictions, not rents. Once the emergency passes you'll get evicted.
Well, yeah. That's how life works. You sign a lease, if you fail to abide by it you're out.

Hell no you should not have to pay... not for something like this outbreak. Normal circumstances... sure, but not this.

It has EVERYTHING to do with them.

Leave it to the physical man to not understand the spiritual...

"But a physical man does not accept the things of the spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot get to know them, because they are examined spiritually. However, the spiritual man examines all things, but he himself is not examined by any man. For “who has come to know the mind of Jehovah, so that he may instruct him?” But we do have the mind of Christ." 1 Corinthians 2:14-16

So I guess if you take out a loan and then lose your job you'll have to die rather than not pay the debt, right?

A contract is an oath, a vow, a promise...what part of that do you not get as a Christian?

The Lord demands we give charity. It's not an option.

Well, I'm not a Christian theologian, but doesn't the word "charity" imply that something is given with love of one's own free will? God did give us free will, didn't he? Again, if I give up something because I'm compelled to, whether it's because someone has a gun to my head or a third party demands it, how is that charity?

Bad analogy... there are soup kitchens, charity, etc. to try and get food. No such thing for rent.

I disagree. It's an apt analogy, because both--food and shelter--are basic human needs necessary for survival. And yet it's rare that people in major industrialized nations die of exposure or starvation. People generally have other options when they can't pay their rent, even it's living in a tent like their ancestors did.

I never advocate walking away from obligations, but if you get into a situation where you can’t pay all your bills and eat then you should prioritize rent and utilities and then food then your credit cards and consumer debts.

If you’re delinquent on credit cards long enough you will likely be able to settle then for pennies on the dollar later. Your credit will be terrible of course, but one shouldn’t go without or rent to pay credit cards

And that friend, is why banks got a slice of the stimulus, so they don’t call commercial notes.

Bail out business's but not individuals?

Then apply that all the way

The landlord should not get charity from the banks for the mortgage, and the banks should not get charity from the government for not getting loans repaid

All signed contracts, if they fail they are out

No "charity" involved.

Of course, for the non-charitable landlords among us, there is a practical reason to be "charitable." It's called Yelp. (I think these landlords will probably backtrack if they haven't already, but the damage will have been done by then.)

Yelp

("Awful people. Zero compassion. Hell has a special place for them." Ouch!)

While I agree with what you say in principal, Uncle sam is part of about half of those mortgage signed contracts as either the owner or the guarantor so they have a vested interested in not getting stuck with all the realty yet again.
