Several conservative commentators have made statements recently, in which they told their audiences that dying for the economy is 'patriotic', and they would gladly die of coronavirus for the sake of the economy.

Glenn Beck told viewers of his eponymous BlazeTV program that older Americans should get back to work in order to “keep this economy going and working,” even if that means risking death by complications of the new coronavirus.

“I would rather have my children stay home and all of us who are over 50 go in and keep this economy going and working,” Beck, who noted that he is in “the danger zone” because he is 56 years old, said. “Even if we all get sick, I’d rather die than kill the country.”

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) told Tucker Carlson’s Fox show we need to get back to work now, level of death be damned, and says grandparents should be willing to die to save the economy for their grandchildren.

Die For the Dow Trends as Republicans Push For Economy to Restart

Are you willing to die for the economy?

I pledge allegiance, to the Dow, of the United States of Economy, and to the stock market in which it stands, one economy under Goldman, indivisible, with globalism and coronavirus for all.

The Conservative American Way.

Money first, people second.

It’s exactly what Jesus preached.

I wouldn't die for the economy and neither would they. They have the correct message but with a poor delivery.

What's the correct message? Old people need to stop worrying and get back to work?

I am willing to live for the American economy.

The economic system serves the needs of humans.

Humans do not serve the system.

The End

Ah so this is not a thread on Ol Bone Spurs and his sick note.

I imagine those that said that likely weren't meaning they would die for the economy but rather for their kids and grandkids and ensuring there would be a prosperous country for future generations. The obvious choice is to have those at risk isolate with the young and healthy continuing on as normal that way we minimize the cost of life while keeping the economy at a manageable level. Neither locking everything down nor acting as if the virus is nothing will have favorable outcomes, this is one of those issues where the correct answer lies in the middle and both sides are correct to an extent but go to far.

Are you willing to sacrifice the comfort of poor people for fears that old people may get sick and die if poor people do not give up their 'high' standard of living and accept deep poverty and ruin as a sacrifice for the good of others?

As far as me sacrificing my life for my adult kids, no thanks...For a rich man, oh hell no, and for the govt. don't even think about it. In other words, no.

PUT AMERICA BACK TO WORK

What that really means is put the working/middle class out there making money for the corporations and wealthy elite while they stay comfortably at home behind the walls of their gated communities

Workers are.expendable. a cost to be reduced or eliminated at every oportunity
