Who SHOULD Vice President Biden pick as his VP?

Biden's VP should be....

  • Total voters
    40
  • Poll closed .
Palin wasn't the reason he lost. At least not in my opinion.

100% correct. Palin was the scapegoat. Here's why McCain lost, and it wouldn't matter who he picked:

- 8 Years of One Political Party
- The Economy collapsed aka Housing Bubble
- Bush had approval ratings in the 30 range.

People were looking for somebody without an R next to their name. At least Palin was a conversation starter and got people to pay attention to the news. Back in 2008, my manager went up to me and said, "Did you hear what Sarah Palin had to say?"

VPs definitely matter. I do feel Palin contributed to McCain's loss though there were more important factors at play to be sure. Tim Kaine was definitely a significant factor in Hillary's defeat: he brought less than nothing to the table, and he only ever really succeeded at alienating more progressive voters.

Klobuchar is a sitting senator. Democrats cannot afford to lose a seat on the senate, even temporarily. Without at least 50 seats on the senate, they can count on getting zero judicial nominations through, and pretty much nothing else through.

Abrams would be the best candidate for VP, as she has executive experience. And is it me, or does anybody else find it odd that there isn't a male on the list? Not even one???

I agree on the second part. Kaine only helped Clinton out in Virginia, potentially. He didn't excite the base or make up for a Clinton flaw. Personally, I think he should go with a Tammy or Warren here. I thought about Klobuchar, but she's from Minnesota, a left-leaning state, and doesn't excite the progressive wing.

She didn't help his chances, but McCain lost entirely because of the GWB presidency. no Republican, not even Ronald Reagan, would have won in 2008.

One senate seat no matter the stakes in the Senate is nothing compared to winning the presidency. In the senate there's the next two elections cycles to gain either a majority or a greater majority. Yet the party that loses the presidency loses everything for the next 4 years and very likely 8 years.

The nominee Biden will choose the woman for vp who will help significantly to elect him to the WH sans any other consideration. A given nominee of a party may end up right or wrong in his choice yet winning the presidency is the whole idea and focus. Hope for coattails but concern himself with congress after that.

It was good though when Obama got reelected and left Sen. McConnell with his back teeth floating and no pot to piss in.

All that matters to the party's nominee is to win the presidency. Failing that he and the party have lost everything. So one senate seat is nothing compared to winning the presidency especially with two senate election cycles coming up fast and hard. The senate has a lot of leverage yes yet the presidency is the ball game.

Sorry to see you're ill again.

That's a frail state of Republican health you're always in and subject to despite not being a Republican. Strange but true.

Hope you get better quick and soon. Voting for Biden would be a good start or so I'd suggest.

Oops....

I feel like Giuliani....almost everyone has disappointed me.

I feel like Giuliani....almost everyone has disappointed me.

Maybe it's because Giuliani went from being America's Mayor to being Putin's Errand Boy.

So does the group meet weekly or monthly?

I ask anyway knowing full well Giuliani says there is no Truth. But then we know that simply by reading your posts.

Palin definitely didn't do any favours for McCain and was absolutely a negative; like I said, I don't think her pick was particularly devastating, but it did have an impact.

Further I think that's a rather euphemistic way of characterizing the left wing's attitude towards Klobuchar.

Also it has to be noted that given Biden's age and clearly failing faculties, the VP choice is particularly critical.

Would you say that about her if she were a white male? Just curious.

We may not know who controls the Senate until the almost certain Georgia runoff in 1/5/21; your state. Inside trader Sen. loeffler has also put that other GA Senate seat more in play; Ossoff v. Perdue. Tillis in NC is trying to get out in front of insider trader Burr. NC is my ground zero state. I don’t think Lindsey in between NC and GA is that safe either.

I see DP’s resident faux progressive is polluting this thread with his BINO posting; Bernie in name only. Anyone who doesn’t see the need for a Midwest VP candidate doesn’t have a clue as to why Clinton lost, or is just a troll. Pence won a Midwest and Bible Belt constituency, not a state. Brilliant pick. DEMs have several excellent Midwest candidates to choose from.

Democrats cannot repeat the 2016-type mistake of not taking someone like Sherrod Brown as the VP because Ohio has a gop Governor, and that Ohio doesn’t even have a special election. How is that not an abrogation of the 17th amendment? I’ll hold my choice for now.

I hope not Harris. She comes off as a bitch. And the performance she had during the primaries show I'm not the only one who feels this way. And as others pointed out, she brings little to the table politically speaking for Biden.

To be clear, I dont really dislike her, just her personality is offputting to me. I'm not a confrontational person. And I'd rather have someone who actually can bring the most votes/voters in per our system, not just the popular vote.

Good assessment. It is sad that Biden is most likely considering Harris because of the color of her skin. She turned off a lot of people after the first couple of debates. And Biden was attacked by Harris over an ancient busing issue which people did not understand. Klobuchar is the safest bet and not because she is white. She has a good record. And, yes, Biden knows Amy could be a safe bet after Biden steps down at the end of his first term - like he said he would.

Whitmer. Lock down Michigan and burn up Trump's firewall in the rust belt as she can sway those voters---she knows them and what they want. If you want a VP candidate that can make a difference, that is.

If it comes down to Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Pennsylvania being in play again, that is.

Klobuchar is a sitting senator. Democrats cannot afford to lose a seat on the senate, even temporarily. Without at least 50 seats on the senate, they can count on getting zero judicial nominations through, and pretty much nothing else through.

What's more important? Winning the White House and kicking Trump out or gaining a majority in the Senate?

I don't agree with that mindset one bit.

If Klobuchar is the nominee and the Electors select Biden and Klobuchar as the next President and Vice President, there will be a Democrat replacement for her position. There will not be only one Senator from Minnesota.

Klobuchar won re-election in 2018. In 2024, would be her next Senate race.

More over, if the Democrats win back the White House, they are statistically going to pick up seats in either house, senate, or both.

I'd say Harris. Klobuchar is a close second. I'm a big fan of Duckworth and her disability focus, but I don't see that happening.

Each has their particular weaknesses, each has their contributions to the ticket. Personally, I think Biden would be better off making as much of a nod as possible to the left of center Obama coalition as possible than we centrists.

Why Harris? I get Klobuchar. She's an experienced U.S Senator and has the ability to win over Republican districts. But Harris, didn't she accuse him of supporting racist policies? Didn't she completely flop in the Democratic primary race for lacking charisma? The only variable I see is, "she's a black woman".

I think Duckworth makes the most sense: experienced on both the political side and military side, and has an inspirational story.

Klobuchar is much closer to Biden ideologically than Harris is. We also have to admit that demographics can play an important part in the narrative. Kaine was a moderate liberal and spoke spanish, but he did come off to a lot of Democratic voters as "generic white dad, again." Harris had her issues with people on the left "she's a cop," she had a half-baked critique of Biden's busing position (the first half was worth pointing out in the debate, the solution was....not). However, there's still a certain amount of a flame there with liberals, she has the name recognition going for her.

Again, I love Duckworth, even if I am ideologically different than she. So if she gets the nod, I'm a happy guy.

I mean, I'm telling you, I'd love Duckworth. Look at her reaction to the Rand Paul news.

The problem with her "critique" is that she supported Biden's position all long. Just didn't like the people Biden worked with. Biden called mandatory busing on the federal level problematic, and he constantly got phone calls from both black and white constitutes that their son, their daughter being shipped to a school an hour away from their home. And on top of that, the busing program Harris participated in, was a volunteer program. It was a cheat shot. But I guess at the end of the day, all party infighting can be seen as political theater.

I see the Harris pick as away of getting black and brown Americans out to the polls, which I guess at the end of the day, is all what matters to Biden: winning the election.

Bumping up the thread. I want as many picks as possible. I am going to eliminate the lowest seed or the ones with 0 votes, and add in more options. Right now we have Harris and Klobuchar tied for 1st place, followed by Abrams in 3rd place. Duckworth and Warren are tied for 4th place with 2 votes. 8 posters have picked "Other". Anyway, stay tuned for round 2.

He should select a democratic senator from a state with a Republican governor.

This way, in the unlikely and remote event that Biden wins, the GOP can add another senator to their column.

Why would he do that?

So the Republican Governor can appoint an interim GOP Senator after the Democratic Senator resigns to run as the democratic VP running mate to Biden.

Every vote in the Senate seems to count more and more these days.
