I like Merriam Webster's definition better-"a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition". djt isn't a fascist yet, but he'd like to be.

Go read a few history books on early to mid twentieth century. You may hate the man, dislike his policies - fine. He is no fascist.

I think he and his supporters want fascism but are only getting through some of it. They're chipping and chipping away at our government, laws and precedents to get the rest of it. Trump has outright attacked the other two branches that are meant to be checking him every chance he gets.
 
He wishes!

We can only be glad Trump lacks the charisma, personaltiy, and has an elementary level vocabulary or else we'd really be in deep ****.

Do you honestly think that? You are not just slamming on Trump because you disagree with him? You really think that millions of people want an Ethno fascist state? You think that a significant number of people - your fellow Americans, want a brutal dictator with no rights for citizens, no limits of a constitution, and want to exterminate other races? Seriously - you really think that? I hope that your answer is no. If it is just hyperbole on your part - OK I get it. If your answer is yes, I hope for your sake you get some help. Most people mean "national socialist" when they say "fascist". A national socialist being a Nazi.

Nazis believed that as long as you were of the Aryan race, you were part of the group and so you'd receive socialism, eg, lots of free stuff.

Trump welcomes blacks, gays and other minorities at his rallies, something a Nazi would never do.

If you're willing to vote for Trump, Trump will accept you as part of his group.

Yes. I don't think that of Bush or his supporters, Reagan or his, Nixon or his, or any other president. I'm talking about this specific person and his supporters. He has fought, kicked and screamed every single time other branches of government have attempted to check him. His supporters are so wrapped up in his cult of personality that they will not abandon him for any reason whatsoever. Trump wants full and complete control for his agenda and as long as it's him, his supporters will support it. There is all kinds of fascism and all kinds of dictatorships and Trump is steering us to his version of it, there's nothing hyperbolic about it.

The question was not whether America was fascist, it was whether Trump was. Does Trump have fascist tendencies? If left unchecked, would he move America toward fascism.

Using your definition, Trump fits "powerful leader, extreme price in country and race and no expression of political disagreement allowed" provision very well.

The only open issue is to what extent would Trump want control of social and economic life, with the latter, given that he wants to control the fed and pick winners and losers in various industries, I would say he clicks off that attribute as well. Trump has a very high proclivity to fascism.... only American institutions and traditions have stood in his way, but that doesn't stop him from tearing those down brick by brick.

Fascism is often rooted in populism and nationalism. Populism can be a gateway drug to fascism. See also Peronism.

Are you out of your mind? The entire mainstream media expresses 'political disagreement' with Trump 24/7 and he has done nothing to stop it. Nothing.

Complete garbage. It is the left that assaults every American institution, not the right. Hence the term 'conservative.'
 
Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism (America first) characterized by dictatorial power, (I can do anything I want) forcible suppression of opposition, (false accusations and firing all who oppose him) and strong regimentation of society and of the economy which came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe. (Anti-migration, discouragement of global trade, bigotry).

If it walks and talks like a pig, it's a pig.
