Fortunately Bernie's not a Communist and Trump's not a Fascist.
 
I've commented multiple times on how this administration isn't really conservative. It embraces the expansion of government, dismisses the importance of environmental protection, constitutional checks and balances, respect of the Judicial and Congressional Branches, isn't transparent or efficient, etc.

But this isn't Fascism. Trump is an authoritarian leader. Many of his followers are oblivious to the fact that they're promoting a fascist ideology. But Trump is ultimately a liar who uses the appeal of white nationalism and hatred of opposition to court votes. In other words, Trump isn't a fascist. He just plays one on TV.

Sanders is not a Communist nor anything close. Trump on the other had, has shown he wants to destroy checks and balances in the other two branches of government and wants to be the authoritarian in charge. That puts him not only in charge as President but puts him slithering towards the goal of authoritarianism.

Trump is an existential threat to America. Sanders is not.

Sanders praises Communist regimes and honeymooned in the Soviet Union. He wants to nationalize 1/6th of the US economy and place it under government control. Under HIS control. That makes him at least as much a communist as Trump is a fascist.

He hates the Citizens United decision which means he wants to ban speech from private organizations that mention his name 30 days before a primary or 60 days before an election. That actually makes him kind of a fascist too.

He represents the last dying gasp of a white majority that never learned a thing from the 60s, voted for Grandpa in the 80s and were taught to hate everyone in the 90s and beyond. Trump wants to be a dictator, that is how he ran his companies. He is a small man with very small hands that gives that small but powerful minority of us a way to rage at the machine in a futile attempt to avoid the inevitable.

No. Fascism is a fairly distinct set of policy positions and ideology. He certainly shares some characteristics, but not the whole package.

He's an authoritarian and an old-fashioned bigot who panders to white nationalism but sees it as a vehicle to hard power, but has no actual ideology of his own.
