The stock market dropped 1,000 points in a day, attributed to covid-19. Over a million small Chinese businesses will be broke in less than 60 days. S. Korea is closing factories, schools, universities. Essential components even for American manufacturing from China aren't arriving. Italy is shutting down. Some estimate it is 10 times worse than China claims in China. Our Armed Services Committee is considering whether to have a plan to employ the National Guard for American enforced quarantines.

It showing up all over the world - and when it gets there it seems to spread fast. Went from 5 cases to 1000+ in under a week. Major outbreak in Iran. And there is REAL FEAR of what happens if/when it hits 3rd world countries, particularly in African, that have virtually no medical network or infrastructure to even recognize the disease?

Is Bernie Sanders praying to St. Fidel for covid-19 to crush the USA economy and force people to desperately look to the federal government on a health level - supporting nationalizing the entire American medical and drug industries?

OR, would this be a HUGE diversion for which President Trump is seen as a strong heroic leader by commanding the day with a strong hand, using the National Guard, federal police and even in declaring a true emergency the American military, to successfully quarantine across the USA - sparing death tolls in other countries rivaling the black plague?

If the markets & economy tank, Trump will do a dog & pony show to make it clear the problem was the virus - not his economy - that caused the collapse. As we saw with his wall, he can declare an emergency out of thin air, and I believe he will hyperbolize the virus' effect and his subsequent triumph over it.

It is hard to know what the fallout will be, but there will be some, but as day follows night, the TDS’ers will try to use it against Trump.

The silver lining is it will increase the rate of decoupling from China. They cant even cooperate on disease and public health.

I don't envision any tanking but the virus could absolutely have an effect on the market. Not as much as Trump's tweeting, but an effect non the less which would aid the democrats.

Just remember, the more you "decouple" the worse both economies will become. You can't break & re-establish supply chains overnight. If you even can find a competitive low-cost producer that enables you to compete with Chinese products. This might be no easy task.

I will say again what I said in the beginning--this will hit blue cities first and the hardest. That only helps Trump.

Given that I agree urban areas by their very nature will be hit first, how does it follow that will help Trump?
 
Trump literally told people that he grabs women in the crotch, cheats on his multiple wives, doesn't pay his bills and uses Uncle Fed to help him with his debt.

Why in the world would this issue cost him votes???

As businesses use “force majeure“, voters have a “feel” for what is in a presidents control and what isn’t. In fact his leadership will

This the flu! It's not about "open borders". It comes in through business and vacation travel - in both directions. No way do I see you're even close in this analysis.

Given the stock market dropped over 1000 today, the virus is spreading, whole cities are being put under quarantine, and travel is being banned, no this is not "the flu".

If it becomes enough of a threat in the United States Trump's opponents could point out that he (Trump) just proposed cutting the CDC budget in his recent budget proposal, and even that he fired the leadership of that organization from before his presidency and hasn't replaced them with good choices.
