The communists at NPR review the debate.
Do you think Bloomberg knew he'd be savaged going in?
He's made 64 billion dollars in his life, starting from nothing. He's not dumb.
If there's a lesson to be learned from history, check back to the GOP primary debate in NH, 2016. Those in that debate didn't attack the front runner, but the number two guy. Especially Christie which once that debate was over, Trump was pretty much assured the nomination. You can't level the playing field by going after number two. You can't close the gap between yourself and number one by going after number two. The only way you can do that is to go after number one, the front runner.
So last night probably knocked the number two candidate down a notch or two, but strengthen the front runner, in this case Sanders. Like in NH 2016, it might be too late to knock Sanders off or even down a peg. Sanders has momentum to carry into the Nevada Caucus, on to South Carolina and Super Tuesday. Last night by concentrating on Bloomberg, the number two guy, the rest added to Sanders momentum and to strengthening his position for the upcoming primaries. Perhaps all the rest drove their first few nails into their coffin on the road to burial of their campaign and to withdrawal.
Perhaps each and every debater just blew their chance to catch the number one guy, the front runner by going after number two. Time will tell. But perhaps each one of them should have looked back on history, back to the GOP NH primary and what that meant to the front runner then.
If I could ask them all a question, it would be just who are these candidates other than Sanders getting their political advice from? It seems to me, it's losers advice. Totally against conventional political wisdom if one wanted to win the nomination. Or maybe, all of them had conceded the nomination to Sanders and wanted to help him get there or perhaps, just deny Bloomberg the nomination even if it meant deep sixing their own chances.
Then again, I might be too old fashioned or just too old period to understand how this new fangled political games are played today.
