How much White Hate (Often self loathing) and America Hate are we supposed to suffer from a party that is asking for our vote?

I get the impression that no one successfully thought this plan through!

That's not the party you should walk away from. Just ask these guys:

Republicans Abandoning GOP Under Trump: Justin Amash Joins Growing List of High-Profile Exits From the Party

epresentative Justin Amash announced on Thursday that he was "declaring my independence and leaving the Republican Party," joining a growing list of lawmakers and pundits who have abandoned the GOP in the era of Donald Trump.

Here are some of the other notable Republicans that have left the party during Trump's presidency:

George Conway

George Conway, a prominent attorney and husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, left the Republican Party in 2018. Conway has been one of the most outspoken critics of Trump, calling him the most "unfit and incompetent president in American history." Conway even once said he'd rather "move to Australia" than vote for Trump.

Conway supported Amash's departure from the GOP on Twitter, writing: "Couldn't agree more." He also shared a photo of his own form, dated March 2018, asking to be registered with no political party.

Andy McKean

McKean was Iowa's longest-serving Republican before he left the party in April to join forces with the Democrats. He described his departure as a protest of Trump's "unacceptable behavior" and said the president was a "poor example for the nation and particularly for our children"

McKean's departure left Republicans with a narrow six-seat lead over Democrats in the state House. He's announced that he will run for re-election in 2020 as a Democrat.

Tom Nichols

Nichols, a professor at the U.S. Naval War College and at the Harvard Extension School, left the Republican Party in October 2018.

In an essay for The Atlantic, Nichols explained that the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was the last straw in his decision to abandon the GOP. He wrote that the party had become so obsessed with "winning" that it had become a "threat to the rule of law and to the constitutional norms of American society."

"As a newly minted independent, I will vote for Democrats and Republicans whom I think are decent and well-meaning people," Nichols wrote.

Steve Schmidt

Schmidt was a veteran GOP strategist who ran John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign before he left the Republican Party in June 2018. Schmidt announced his departure in a series of Twitter posts, in which he condemned the GOP's immigration policies and urged voters to elect Democrats in the 2018 midterm elections.

"29 years and nine months ago I registered to vote and became a member of the Republican Party which was founded in 1854 to oppose slavery and stand for the dignity of human life," he wrote. "Today I renounce my membership in the Republican Party. It is fully the party of Trump."

Peter Wehner

Peter Wehner, a longtime aide to three Republican administrations and a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, announced he was leaving the GOP in February. Wehner attributed his fall out with the Republican Party to the rise of Trump.

"That's turned out to be quite a problem for me, because from the moment he announced his run for the presidency, I believed that Trump was intellectually, temperamentally, and psychologically unfit to be president," he added.

George Will

Conservative icon and author George Will left the Republican Party before Trump was even elected, stating that the GOP had become a "cult."

"This is not my party," Will said while announcing his departure to the Federalist Society in June 2016. He noted at the time that it was too late for the GOP to nominate someone other than Trump.

"Make sure he loses," Will added. "Grit their teeth for four years and win the White House."

Well, too bad she still lives in Calif where her leaving the democrat party won't make a difference

You should realize this is all BS. Trump's support within the Republican party tops 90% in the polls. He rates higher than Obama rated with Democrats.

That's because they're under a greater "spell" under Trump than Obama had them

The flaw is believing that there is one main philosophy for liberals. Many of those people at that Earth Day event she described were probably Independents and even some conservatives/Republicans. There are also Dems that would never go to such an event.

It's funny though how in her mind doing yoga separates you from the church, which she admits to going back to at 17. It sounds like she was always conservative and went to a single event and had stereotypes about people there, which were then shattered, and that led to her going "well if these people are like this, I should be with the opposite political group". Its a stupid position to take.

And we have no other info on her other positions or when she changed (what age).

I especially like how she says aborted fetuses feel pain so now it's okay to inflict pain on living children.

And for gosh sakes - democrats throw their trash in the wrong bin!!! Those monsters! So why do we need a bin at all?

Wow. I didn't realize George Will had left the party and is likely the source for the label "cult" as it is applied to Trump voters. Interesting.

Then again, Will is the only prominent Republican on the list, and many of the people on the list are simply anti-Trump as opposed to anti-Republican. Most referred to getting Trump out of office in order to put in place a proper Republican or had become opposed to the 2 party system. I have no doubt that Trump is not a standard Republican - this is a good thing in my view. Many in the R party are sick and tired of talking the talk and stopping there. Trump is actually doing the things he ran on - refreshing from a politician. And the nation is better for it so far.

As to R's leaving the party - keep thinking that is the case. Don't bother understanding the record number of participants at R caucus and primary events. That has no meaning... Nor do the thousands of people waiting in line at Trump rallies. Just coincidences; everybody knows (in the D echo chamber anyway) that Trump is hated by everyone.

I didn't vote in the poll because, unlike you, I was never a Democrat and never plan to be one.

Now I can see why so many former Democrats are such Democrat haters; they're like former smokers who become the worst anti-smokers. Since I was never a Democrat I don't hate them, I just disagree with them on several issues. FWIW, I don't hate the Republicans either even though I was one for 38 years. I'm just saddened that the Grand Old Party has destroyed itself.

I would say this is a somewhat common epiphany that many young people come to. I am willing to bet it happens the opposite way as well. This young woman was likely conservative from the start and simply didn't understand the nuances of party affiliation.

In any case I welcome her to the R party.

And you know with heartfelt contrition she'll actually vote.

Isn't the republican party the smallest party now?

90% of 28% (iirc) is like 25-26% of the electorate.

Sounds good, if you don't think about it.

Like most conservative messaging.

I don't think everyone is stereotyped into a single party philosophy, hence the word lean. I don't hate Liberals or Conservatives, just some of the positions they take. I, intensely, dislike people generalizing others, especially for their opinions on one subject. These ideologues use emotionally driven, blanket condemnations to boost their own egos. Not reason filled solutions to sway minds.
