I doubt Trump or 95% of his voting base could even define what socialism is.

Hint: It's not "the government does stuff".

He's wrong. Some form of socialism is inevitable, with the advent of a laborLESS society.

well, that possibility does intrigue me

but then, there are fewer people in the US (birth control, sterilization, abortion), so..

I don't know

we are at below Zero population growth

so I think we are not close to what you speak of?

He said it as a big F U to Bernie Sanders, which is why it was so awesome.

Autonomous cars, smarter and smarter software, machines that build other machines...

We are far closer than you might think. Where were we, technologically speaking, just 25 years ago? 100 years ago?

I don't know... I hope I am gone by the time things get too weird

they are already too weird for me... Governors (VA) saying We will keep the baby comfortable while the mother decides whether or not to kill him/her

Nazism rears its hideous head

no wonder people like Trump..............

Can only hope he is right. watched a panel of college students a while ago talking up warren ,yang ,Bernie and others they are brainwashed. something aint right. it is like the talking point is awesome. if by chance the repubs lose 2020 people are gonna be shocked to the core of things to come!!

Depends on how Socialist is defined. If you are going by the dictionary definition of workers owning the means of production then highly likely it doesn't happen in any of our lifetimes. I don't think it would be wise to say never but getting enough support to repeal the 5th amendment could be insurmountable for quite a long time. Having said that I wouldn't be shocked if they found some way to undermine the constitution and weaken our rights as that is ultimately the goal of government.

Socialism is when the means of production fall into the government. State-run essentially.

so·cial·ism
/ˈsōSHəˌlizəm/
noun
a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

We already have a bit of socialism in this country anyway. Welfare is a good example. We're mostly capitalist, but not truly capitalist

Since Donald Trump is a pathological liar, he is probably wrong but "never" is a long time. You might as well say that the United States will never fall as people once believed about the empires of Persia, Carthage, Rome, Abbasid Caliphate, Holy Roman Empire, Spain, England, etc.

Trump is a salesman to his very last fiber, dont believe that everything you hear was intended to be taken literally.

Trump is a BS artist, surely you have figured this much out by now....

For the US to fall, the free world must collapse. I'm pretty sure the free world will remain so and more of the world will become free. The tyrants are not gonna start adding countries to the list of dictatorships.

When you talk about the US "falling" in those terms, you talk about the fall of the free world.

And, no, the free world is not gonna fall like some ancient piece of **** empire.

No, we are a mixed economy, with all of the wealth being created on the capitalist side.

And.... with our late stage socialism, 44% of Americans pay no Fed income tax while the others are forced to(wink)

This. On these forums alone the definition eludes the vast majority of them utterly, along with such familiar words as 'Marxist' and 'communist' they like to throw at everything to the left of John McCain.

Government is social-ism. There is no free market capitalism under Government. Congress commands fiscal policy and the Fed commands monetary policy in our economy.

They control it with taxes and regulation?
