which is most difficult to believe of all Catholic doctrine?

Eating Jesus and drinking his blood literally.

wow.. I can't believe I forgot the Eucharist

but anyway, based on John 6:27-72

Transubstantiation is biblical. It may be hard to believe but anyone who experiences the Real Presence, experienced whenever there is a consecrated host nearby (kept in tabernacles in the Church) knows the Host really is Jesus.. in the form of bread

there are a lot of hard to believe things in the world.. this may admittedly be one of the hardest but...

(the Eucharist is probably the only thing I still like about the CC)

All of it...none of which is scriptural...

That people that are starving should donate to the richest organization on earth.

What do you mean by "difficult"?

From a moral standpoint? In the sense of least ridiculous mumbo-jumbo? Something else?

Also, is this within the world of Christian faith or all things considered?

All of it...none of which is scriptural...

Well I guess if you are going to create an imaginary friend. It's perfectly fine to ascribe any miraculous abelites to your friend that suit your fancy.

Choosing not a believe in something is one thing. Attacking the beliefs of millions of people around the world for no reason other than apparent hatred of people of faith makes you nothing more than a bigot.

That a "God" exists.

Jesus was close to the middle of eleven brothers and sisters. Mary's virginity would have had to have been questionable.

ok, to respond to some of these choices

Mary remained a virgin, which is scripturally shown

When the angel Gabriel said she would be with child (St Lk 1:1)

Mary, who was planning to marry Joseph, was betrothed to him.. said "How can this be, since I do not know man?"

Why would she ask the angel that Q if she was planning on having a conventional (meaning: including sexl) marriage?

yes, protestant pastors tell their congregations this

they are wrong but it is very hard to change years-old beliefs... taught over and over by pastors in protestant communities

That people that are starving should donate to the richest organization on earth.

now this... I have no argument against

like I said, the Eucharist is about the only thing I like about the CC.. (by saying that, I mean the Mass also, where the hosts are consecrated)

I'm no longer a protestant and I stopped believing their lies, too...I still say scripture supports none of them...

In order of difficulty from most difficult to least difficult:

Transubstantiation.

The sale of Indulgences.

Papal Infaliability.

The Suppression of Liberation Theology by the Church.

Celibacy.

Cheers.

Papal infallability is objectively the hardest Catholic doctrine to believe. Things like transubstantiation can be "interpreted" away with double talk about how even though the physical nature of the bread and wine doesn't change, it's "whole substance" (whatever that means) is altered.

Other things were one-time events. Maybe Jesus ascended into heaven and maybe he didn't. Maybe Mary was a virgin and maybe she wasn't. I wasn't there and neither were you and livestreaming hadn't been invented yet. So I can put those aside too.

But Papal infallability is different. It means the pope can't ever be wrong. Ever! So what happens when one pope reverses a decision that a previous pope made? Either the first pope was wrong, or the guy who reverses him was wrong. Either that, or the eternal, unchanging nature of God is a myth, which pretty much negates the entire Church.

Only God can be infallable. His Church is made up of people and people can never be perfect, not even in theory.

I voted for "We should pray to the saints" but usually they pray to Mary. They also name many churches after her instead of God, which I do not approve, and saying "Hail Mary" is worshipping her even if Catholics refuse to admit it.

But there is another one that should have been listed in the poll that I find just as confusing: their belief that they are not forgiven for their sins without confessing to a priest. Jesus forgave us for our sins on the cross, so this is totally unnecessary. The Bible says so.

Eating Jesus and drinking his blood literally.

Yes, I have always been totally confused about their belief that when Jesus said, "This is my body. . ." and "This is my blood . . ." it must be literal because he would have had to self-mutilate for that to be true and is in heaven with the Father. How could it not be totally symbolic?

Other: God does not actually exist at all.

Obviously that is all religions, but yeah... They're all stupid.

Atheism is a religion to me. A belief no god exists is a belief about God.

Well, I don't hate Catholic people. I have a Catholic friend. I just hate the fact that Catholics have unbiblical beliefs and practices based on manmade doctrines instead of being limited to the 66-book Bible itself.

Can any Catholics on DP explain everything that confuses Protestants (especially Baptists, Pentacostals, and Evangelicals) about their traditions, beliefs and doctrine?
