Is Impeachment Tearing the Country Apart?

I hate politics. I have to understand them a little to try to understand how to fix this country. Looks like a certain party has been trying to oust Trump for 3 years and now the impeachment decision is guilty on a couple counts. It’s unlikely that he’ll be removed from office. What a pathetic show of we’re more powerful and we’re better. It cost us millions

It's worse than that (for you); most Americans are bored to tears with the Dems antics, and aren't even paying attention. You have two choices here.

1. Don't impeach, & lose 2020.
2. Impeach and lose 2020 by a landslide. Think '84.

I agree.......the Dems are sooo screwed with this impeachment BS.........Itll be Trump in a landslide next fall!

I say no way. Trump has already torn the country apart and I see not much left to tear.

Removing Trump will begin to heal the country. Lets get it done.

No. The caterwalling from the right is like their gnashing of teeth during the tea bagger revolt. Blowhards and deplorables everywhere, not a brain to spare.

It’s not damaging the country. Impeachment is part of the Constitutional process of America. The Senate is acting within their power

In 1940 the country was divided over the war, but we came together after Pearl Harbor, but when we were attacked in 2016 45% of Americans were just fine with it. If we had the current crop of Republicans in congress back in 1941, the first thing they would want to do after the attack would be to investigate the Ukraine.

You clearly see the world from a negative point of view. I see the world as it is. I bet if the Democrats didn't spend the majority of their time trying to undo the 2016 election and did the job they were elected to do this country would be in a much better place. This President will go down as one of the greatest ever as far as getting things done despite the interference from the left. If you all just went away it's amazing how great this country could be.

I hope at some point you folks will realize that it's up to you to create the life you seek and not the government. While you sit back and rely on others for your happiness I will be creating the world the way I want it. This is the big difference between Republicans and Democrats. I'd suggest you all take a step back from the self inflicted muck you live in and see the bigger picture. This is why you folks are always looking up at us.

Trump will always be an illegitimate president to us, you're not changing any of our minds, so 'deal with it'. I think it's time for you to take stock of yourself and take off the rose-colored glasses when it comes to seeing Trump. He's a Russian asset as is Mitch McConnell and the GOP Congress. This country is so ****ed and you won't see it until it hits your personally.

Remember Pelosi was against this at the beginning of the year, did her lunatic base finally get to her?
I think so, yes. I think she understands the Democrats will not keep the House, but is forced to deal with hyper-partisans both in the House and in the constituency.

Nobody can predict at this point how many seats will be won or lost by Democrats next year, but anybody who cares more about the person than the party will oppose Republican candidates because most if not all of them like Trump.

Don't be silly. Of course they can. Predictions are easy. No one knows with certainty, but the probabilities say that Trump will win easily.

That said, the current subject is the House of Representatives. Nancy Pelosi has said many times that impeachment must be bipartisan. This one will not be. In theory, Schiff's hearings were intended to peel off a Republican or two to lend a veneer of legitimacy. Instead there was a third defection from the Democratic lines. When the actual vote comes, expect many more, though not enough to defeat the bill. This is because 31 Democrats come from districts Trump won in 2016. Of those 31, only two have come out publicly in support of the process.

The current numbers are 233 Democrats plus one independent that votes with them, 197 Republicans, 4 vacant seats. So, The Democrats can have 18 defections and still pass the bill 216 to 215. Likewise, not counting the four empty seats, the Republicans need to pick up 19 votes to defeat the impeachment or to gain control of the House in 2021. Again, 31 Representatives come from districts Trump won, so Pelosi cannot allow all of them to vote no and still pass the bill. It will be a significant campaign issue next fall.

Since we are not going to enforce the constitution anyway, why don't we just make Trump king and establish a monarchy based on heredity?

Be careful what you wish for. After Donalds 8 years I would suspect one or more of his children will become President. I think Ivanka is a no brainer.

Why are there foiur empty seats?
Turnover is normal. There are over four hundred seats, so four being empty is not unusual, especially near a recess. Most likely the seats will have temporary appointees when they start up in January, though some may be open until there is a special election. States differ in how they deal with this.

Nah. Ted Cruz will be the next President. We will be ready for someone completely different.

Of course the impeachment isn't tearing the country apart, that's the only sane thing that's happened since the wannabe dictator got into office. Trump does nothing but lies and denies, he's created nothing but chaos and division. He's only loyal to dictators like Putin, he doesn't give a crap about the USA unless there's money in it for him and his inbred family. The country will heal once that POS is booted from office, one way or another.

I am pretending not to know things. But the wall has to be built and Mexico WILL pay for it. That's true, right?

Well, we can all agree that you are a legend in your own mind. And yes, the wall has to be built for national security reasons and yes, as Trump has said, Mexico will pay for it.... one way or another.

Trump is tearing the country apart. Divisiveness is the rule with Trump, not the exception. Republicans had control of Congress for 2 years, and did nothing, except give tax cuts for billionaires. Trump couldn't work with his own Party, much less the Democrats.

Lol, You are delusional if you believe that. Removing Trump by any means other than an election will do nothing but cause further division and hatred.

The country was already torn apart. Trump just brought a microphone. I am upset that it has turned my dad and uncles into paranoid conspiracy theorists, but maybe they just hid it before.

:lamo Not even close to "torn apart". Look at the events preceding the Civil War. That was TRUE division.

My comment had nothing to do with impeachment. The left have been tearing this country apart with their name calling and intolerance since even before Trump was thought of.

Okay... go ahead and worry about name calling

I was talking about policy and law

LOL!! You got slapped around about the health care thing...so now you are deflecting to "the wall". Sorry, you get slapped around some more.

The wall will be built, but it would be done much faster and Mexico WOULD pay for it...if Congress...both Reps and Dems...wouldn't oppose it.

I'm sorry, I misread your quote on health care. You blamed congress. Trump actually lied... a lot... about health care. He said "everyone will have health care," "everyone will be taken care of," "there will be no cuts to medicaid," and it will be "a lot less expensive." None of that was in the bill he proposed, which cut nearly $1 trillion in medicaid, allowed states to decide whether or not insurance companies could deny people like me with pre-existing conditions, millions of people would have lost their coverage and it reduced standards of care. The majority of Republicans (not in congress, people who identify as Republican) oppose all of those things, even cuts to medicaid - they favor more flexibility with allocated money but not cuts (in polling). What about competition across state lines? Wasn't that a "simple step" he proposed to make the market more competitive and thus health care costs would go down? Why hasn't he pushed that at any point? That wasn't in his bill. He's had 3 years and I think democrats would support it. Congress sucks but the only reasonable way you can blame them is if you say it's the fault of Republicans in Congress because their bill wasn't anything close to what people wanted. Or you can blame Trump who pushed for what was in the bill, because what he was pushing isn't close to what people want, and what people want is what he said he would do if he were president. He basically said single payer. That's what people want.

And now it's congress' fault that Mexico won't build the wall? What would you have them do? The "Force Mexico to pay for the Wall" bill? You're right, I don't think congress would vote for a bill that forced another country or any foreign entity to pay for border security. We didn't even force Saudi Arabia to pay for a penny of the budget required to help fix New York after 9/11. For budget negotiations, $1.6 billion is going to the wall - which makes it about $10 billion that's now been allocated to building it. Sounds like the negotiations are going fine and we'll be paying for it.

I guess you just don't take campaign promises seriously.

First of all, with the new trade agreement, billions of more dollars will be staying in the US. That will more than pay for the wall.

Second only parasites want a single payer system. That way someone else is paying for their healthcare. The libs don't care that tens of millions of hard working Americans will lose their company supported healthcare. All those benefits that the working class fought and negotiated for in their contracts will be flushed down the drain,

It depends on how the question is asked, but the majority of people want universal health care. And I apologize, you're correct about single payer. Most people - not just "parasites" (thanks, by the way) - not just those crazy libs - want universal health care. Especially younger people. I think the younger generation is more humane. They care more about people and have a lot less hatred than those of us born, say, in the 60s and 70s.

A vote for Trump is a vote for 4 more years of investigations, hearings and impeachment inquiries. You think most Americans want that? Most of us want to put Trump behind us.

You're saying that the Democratic Party is so ideologically bankrupt that they would rather spend 4 years investigating Trump than on formulating a platform that wins public support? That is a problem, you're right. House Dems need to resign or not seek reelection.

You don't see american manufacturers moving back to the US. In fact manufacturing in the US is in recession.

Fact is once Trump is gone things will go back like they were. Manufacturers are not going to invest in such an uncertain environment
