Congressman Al Green (D-TX) told MSNBC today that impeachment charges need to include a count dealing with slavery. He said that doing so will help to include people of color's interest in the impeachment of Donald Trump. Do you agree?

I believe we've hit a low point in this impeachment nonsense.

Not for slavery but definitely for abuse of power and obstruction of congress for starters.

I hope they add slavery onto their laundry list of articles

It would definitely help to inform people of just how ridiculous the Democratic Party has become. The old guard in the DNC are going to be replaced in ten years with Dems like AOC, who never met a dumb idea she didn't like.

I wonder if its an imdication thst black support for Trump is better than Democrats would like admit, and this is an attempt to tarnish him.

Yup.
There are two accepted hypotheses. The etymological and most common one is that so many Slavs were taken slaves by Germans, Venice, and the Turks, that the word became a synonym for thralldom. The filological version is that Slav/slavery is a much older Western-centric connotation derived from the great slave markets moving northeast after the late Roman Empire started restricting slavery, and being run by Slavs until they, a few centuries later, became targets of slavery instead.

As much as slavery remains an unaddressed open sore, it doesn't appear on Trump's rap sheet.

They could make an argument for discrimination and how it is unbecoming a president and commander in chief, but it is theoretical and they have enough concrete evidence on other charges.

Impeach him for the Trail of Tears too

Well that's what happens when you let the far left lunatics infect your party.

I join other Americans in feeling very sorry for Congressman Green.

Instead of living in the day, this gentleman still feels terribly wounded about the past and cannot let go.

He is making a laughing stock of himself but does not realize it.

He is also indirectly hurting the impeachment process of his fellow Democrats by raising such an absurd proposal.

I swear, these Democrat officials are trying to outdo each other when it comes to hysteria, stupidity, and false accusations. I'm just waiting on them to say Trump was responsible for the rise of Adolf Hitler or 9/11 (01). That can be a new poll idea. Maybe I should do it. Give me a little while and I'll think about it.

It seems obvious that the Representatives of the United States should undergo a psychological evaluation before being allowed to sit in the seat they won.

He's clearly been obstructing, and that was one of the articles of impeachment against Nixon. So that's already been established as an impeachable offense. Also, I do think that soliciting foreign countries to announce politically motivated investigations into rivals should also not be a thing we allow.

Congressman Al Green (D-TX) told MSNBC today that impeachment charges need to include a count dealing with slavery.
No.
He did not say that.

If you think that he did, can you quote the exact word used to say that "that impeachment charges need to include a count dealing with slavery"?
He pointed out that slavery led to some of the modern evils including Trump's verbal attacks on folks "of color".

Please make your case that this means "that impeachment charges need to include a count dealing with slavery".

I am interested in your textual argument.

Also, fwiw, a number of stupid things we have done as a country were done in the name of slavery and misbegotten ideas of white supremacy.
The bad attitude associated with racism and slavery has cost the US a great deal.

When racism became unpopular, when a politician could no longer openly discuss the "nigger problem" various other harmful things were used in its place to achieve the same ends — dog whistles as they care called now.

We're paying for that crap still.

As should the president. We all know how that would turn out.

And I hope for world peace and a multi million dollar lottery win.

Yup.

the term slav originated long before english used it to connote slaves. It was a description of a group of tribes that spoke the same "barbaric" languages.

And on the other side republicans are trying to outdo each other when it comes to hysteria, stupidity and false accusations in order to protect Trump, credit him with things he didn't do and blame everyone else for the things he has done.

As should the president. We all know how that would turn out.

I knew my comment would bring out comments about Trump.

Yes it is much more important to concentrate on one man instead of over 500 that can do much more damage like the moron that said this.

Well, now that it has been firmly established that the Trumpsters and the GOP have no real defense for Trump whatsoever, we need a distraction!

Nobody cared what Al Green said on some Saturday morning interview, until the right wing noise machine saw that they could repackage it and feed it out to the minions.

Nothing like a little race baiting to cover the fact that the emperor has no clothes.

While his message wasn't especially well crafted, he clearly did not say that slavery should be added to impeachment charges.

Al Green is just one of the many rat party pieces of **** that have been foaming at the mouth over Trumps election since 9 Nov 2016. Sadly...there are plenty of traitorous twats like him and they have lots of idiot leftist muppets that swallow everything they are spoon fed and then dance whenever they are told to by the rat puppetmasters that have their hands shoved up their ass and make their mouths move.
