Thanks for pointing out Tennessee's colors. I'll make a note of that for future reference.
Well, you did confuse VANDY with the Big Orange. Kind of shocking, you know... :2razz:
As a native Georgian, as a graduate of the University of Georgia, as a brother of a graduate of UT and a brother who graduated from UT Memphis, and as the godfather of a, now, man and lady who attended Vandy as did their father and uncle and I well know the difference between Vandy and Tennessee.
I remember when Vandy merged with Peabody, a teacher's college at the time. Rumor - with some merit - was, with an eye on football, it was hoped that by adding Peabody Vandy could acquire students with more athletic than academic potential. If the rumor was true the merger was not successful.
My closest friend has an undergrad degree from Vandy and a graduate degree from Emory. I still remind him from time to time that Emory has the better football team. (Emory is a well regarded university in Atlanta. The high school I attended was/is less than a mile from Emory. Emory does not have a football team.)
While posting on DP I was also having a text conversation with one of my brothers, who graduated from Chapel Hill (University of North Carolina) about Tennessee football. His wife is a graduate of Tennessee. I mistakenly posted Tennessee here rather than Vandy. Two conversations at once will do that to you from time to time.
For the record, I was a Big Orange fan all through the Fulmer years, except for when we played them. Tennessee has yet to recover from the mistake of letting Fulmer go. Having him as the AD is, I think, good for the university. However, Fulmer as AD is not the same as Fulmer as head coach. I've read there was an effort to talk Fulmer into becoming head coach once again. Fulmer, a wise, honorable and respected man turned the idea down. He's too old now. That is a shame. Honestly, after having fired him to hire Lane Kiffin I was surprised Fulmer returned to become AD years later. I do know that he has always loved Tennessee.
Yeah, I've heard the talk as well about him taking over coaching, and Fulmer isn't as polarizing as politicians we won't name in this thread, but he's got some serious detractors. There's some people who claim inside knowledge who say Fulmer stabbed the previous AD in the back with the coaching search to set himself up for the job. Johnny Majors never did forgive Fulmer for how he says Fulmer trashed him after a heart attack to win the coaching job way back, so there's a history. I don't know anything, so it's rumor and I don't pay attention too much.
I'm glad we have a football person as AD, because it's been a terrible post-Fulmer period, but I'm hoping Pruitt works out. It will be better for everyone, and if he keeps the team improving like he's doing these past few games, UT will be OK. Take a while to work back to Fulmer's high point, but at least we all hope it's headed in the right direction. We'll see. eace
