0-2 years?
3-5 years?
6-8 years?
9-10 years

Never

LIke with equal marriage rights the road wasn't over night. While it was a great victory, one that i was so happy to witness with my own eyes more equal rights victories are happening all the time.

Like i always said about equal marriage rights, there was a time when i thought it would never happen in my life time. Then that changed with a couple cases and bigots overstepping way too far helping equal rights spread. It was then i KNEW it would happen in my life time. Their persistent bigotry is what helped it! Try to force their views on others and treating them as lessers paved the way!

Well now another injustice will be fixed in my live time and national protections for sexual orientation is on its way. My personal prediction is 2-6 years but at the most I say 10.

Right now whether the discussion is about housing, employment or public accommodations at least 20 states protect sexual orientation already. Theres court cases with more on the way. Many major cities and or counties in side the states that dont do and the vast majority of 91% of fortune 500 companies. (83% for gender identity which is amazing considering it was only 3 in 2000)

Just need to wait for the old people to die.

If you're talking about rights as in equality under the law, they're already here.

lol you cant group old people all together like that. Millions of them are not bigots and are just fine with equal rights.

25 states have implemented some kind of gay protection. What's wrong with letting the states decide?

7th choice - I don't care

1.) 25 states have implemented some kind of gay protection.
2.) What's wrong with letting the states decide?

1.) depending on the the protection thats great
2.) because as we saw with equal marriage rights something that should be a protected individual right should never be up to the states. Sexual orientation should be protected under civil rights under the term "sex" as it will be in the near future. Its GREAT when the states step up and protect individual rights but what about when they want to **** all over them like many states tried with equal marriage rights? Vile bigotry like that is unacceptable. And thats why it shouldnt be up tp the states. States doing the right thing is the first step but national protection is the final step.

Yes clearly an all powerful federal government is the answer, nothing could go wrong with ceding more power to the federal government

Power to the people! Equal rights for all those now denied!

Not when it comes to equal rights for everyone in the country. Remember that little thing called the Civil War?

specifically what new legislation would achieve that goal?

Don't doubt that.

But they don't care enough, on average, to make it a priority.

Never understood why some humans have such a stern, nasty opinion on people who are not exactly like them. You would think it was 50,000 BC and we have seen other tribes coming to visit us..all the while we're freaking out about some silly crap like.. Not like us...need killing. The Sociopathic Capitalists are screwing us left and right and we're worried to death about how a person thinks about themselves.

I can hear the Powers-That-Be now: "Our plan is working perfectly"

well on avg that is probably true . . though again though they arent alone in their motivation for equal rights they dont feel directly effect them sadly

Awesome!! Florida could be next

While florida has a pending court case there also may be a bill worked on. Not too familiar with florida so i dont know how much success it could have but this is nice when people from both sides come together because they understand the importance of equal rights and fighting bigoted acts

Florida bill filed would protect LGBTQ people from discrimination at work

Republicans and Democrats are working together on bills that would protect LGBTQ people from discrimination on the job. Florida legislators returned to Tallahassee Monday and among the bills filed so far are two focusing on LGBTQ protections.
Republican House member Jackie Toledo and Democrat Senator Ervin Rouson have filed bills that would prevent discrimination against those who identify as LGBTQ. Only Republican Heather Fitzenhagen locally supports it, in fact, she’s a co-sponsor. None of the other local representatives have weighed in. “I think it’s perfect that everybody is starting to ask about it. It's something that should be heard and taken care of,” said Selena Gonzalez of Fort Myers. Gonzalez and her friends at Florida SouthWestern State College are talking about equal protection for the LGBTQ community. “It's just sad that you could be fired for that,” said Kayla Evans. State law does not provide protection on the basis of sexual orientation when it comes to employment, housing, and public lodging.

“No matter if they're black, white, they're still human beings that's why,” said Schneider Venture of Fort Myers. It does protect people on their sex, race, and ethnicity. “I used to be discriminated against when I was a kid for being a Hispanic and always being different from the group,” said Rubin Valez. Fort Myers LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce President Arlene Goldberg said many in the community are discriminated against as it relates to housing and services and work, citing people can be fired. Goldberg calls the bills necessary. “It's very difficult for the transgender community and it's extremely important for them to have protections,” Goldberg stated. An Equality Florida poll shows 75% of Floridians support protections for LGBTQ. “I don't think there is a risk for either side of the isle. I think the risk is if they don't acknowledge or we don't take some particular action,” said Political Consultant Dennis Pearlman. It’s possible many could be waiting to see what Governor Ron DeSantis will say.
“If the governor supports it then you would probably see some other republicans more forward on this,” Pearlman predicted. We asked Governor Ron DeSantis' office if he would support the change to include LGBTQ productions and his office didn't respond to our request. DeSantis has said in the past he won't tolerate LGBTQ discrimination although he didn't include it in an anti-discrimination executive order he signed earlier this year.

If you're talking about rights as in equality under the law, they're already here.

I am a homosexual and that seems to be the case from my perspective. We aren't given special rights in the form of some sort of affirmative action but I don't want that. I want to be treated like everybody else

specifically who said it would new legislation?

You said things need to be done at the national level, not the states. What needs to be done? That usually suggests the national government needs to take action, but hasn't. That usually implies new legislation. If not legislation, then what specifically are you getting at? I'm trying to play nice, but your answer sounds like an evasion.

So, once again; what specific legislation do you want? What would it look like? If not legislation, what actions?
