It seems lately right wing media is trying to label the Democratic party as socialist or communists. Am i mistaken?

Do you believe the Democratic party is socialist or communist?

If you do you should really study the definition of each.

I can agree that the Democratic Party isn't socialist despite having some socialist representatives in Congress.

Can we agree that we have socialists running for the Democratic nomination for president?

True, but I'd also like to see Bernie Sanders and some of his crew study it themselves, and stop using it to identify themselves when the word doesn't actually apply.

I honestly do worry a bit that what Bernie is trying to do with the word Socialism is similar to what white supremacists are trying to do with the word Nationalism. i.e. Normalize it. Get it back to a point where it's being used in the mainstream to try and eliminate the stigma that surrounds it in order to make it easier to recruit people.

Definition of Socialism
a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

Now do you really think any democratic candidate has this as his/her platform?

No, actually we don't. We have Democratic Socialists which is very very very very different than any other kind of socialism that has ever existed in the past.

The truth of the Matter is Bernie Sanders is a Regulatory Capitalist he just doesn't want to be associated with the word capitalism.

I've never seen the word regulated in any definition of Socialism before. By that definition even many Republicans would be considered Socialist.

Ownership is the key. In a socialist society you don't have private corporations. The state owns one state run car company. They don't just pay the medical bills they are in charge of the entire hospital.

Regulating private industry alone even if it's fairly heavy regulation does not make for Socialism.
 
Socialism in America is the first step towards the Nazification that is already underway...
 
The Left is making a point I made yesterday on another person's thread. The brainwashed, indoctrinated, or whatever you want to call them (f*c%t@rds, I don't know) really do believe that they're moderates and that everything they do is right down the middle. They believe that they have moral superiority over everyone that's not one of them because they were told this by their communist teachers, pop culture icons, and social media. The fact of the matter is there is no such person that's a moderate Leftist. It's just these Leftists are to blind to see it:

-Redistribution of wealth - Communist

-Government seizing guns - Communist

-Throwing people in jail without due process - Communist

-Healthcare for all through 70%+ tax increases across the board of all social classes - Communist

-Seizing private property - Communist

-Throwing out non-violent free speech on social media and other platforms - Communist

I can go on here, but how in the world is ANY of this deemed to be held by true moderates? Hitler wasn't a communist, but he was a socialist and he was on the fast track of becoming a communist. Joseph Stalin did say that socialism eventually turns into communism. And how is it that every single dictator in their respective countries that causes mass genocide or cause great oppression for their people end up being either a socialist or communist (or a fundamental Muslim)? "OH, THE RIGHT PEOPLE HAVEN'T BEEN FOUND YET!" We've had Marxist craze for over 100 years and these people keep saying they haven't found the right person yet to use it properly, but none of them have even questioned if it's the ideology itself that is causing these problems? That's a clear sign of them being brainwashed into believing an immoral and unfair ideology, and them being brainwashed into believing that they're moderates, somehow. Yeah, I have every reason to believe the Democrat party is the communist party in the US, and I pray to God they don't get complete control over this country.

Democrats pine for socialist legislation at every turn. They’re Socialists, with some Communists in their midst.

Have to thank Bernie for dragging them out of the closet. For years here Leftists would squeal when called Socialist. Not any longer.
 
The Democrats pander to their base that wants government to take care of them. It's stressful having to take care of yourself. So the Democrats have to move even further into Socialism. Their promises have to be always more grandiose over time. Cradle to grave.

All socialist states are supposed to be democratic, it just never works out that way. In practice socialism can't be implemented without authoritarianism. Hence I suspect "democratic socialism" is a weasel term. Bernie bros frustration with resistance to their brilliant plans will have them calling for nationalization of industry and an increase in government power soon enough, and Venezuela here we come.

The Soviet Union, Communist China, Cambodia, Cuba, Afghanistan, Venezuela, etc.. "It was never real socialism." But this generation of bright young things think they can do it right this time.

Here in the Netherlands there is a socialist party and let us be honest, the democratic party is not socialist or communist.

Let us look at their plans for the military:

- no arming of drones due to the illegal drone strikes of the US, also no working with the US when it comes to drones
- no working with the US in military actions only in UN actions
- no joint strike fighter
- no nukes
- strict international arms rules
- working against dangerous materials (chemical/biological)
- no joint missions where another country directs our troops

Banks
- limit the size
- force them to have much more reserves
- banks can no longer use their customers savings to gamble on loans
- a national bank where there is no profit desire/goal
- force banks to keep ATM's where they are unprofitable
- limit international trade by limiting derivative trades, taxing trades

Inheritance
- heavily tax large inheritance
- limit the taxation of small inheritances

Taxation
- heavily tax the wealthy
- heavily tax big investors
- heavily tax multinationals
- more heavily tax banks

Foreign affairs
- stop interfering in other countries and no interfering of other countries in the Netherlands
- 2 state solution Israel Palestine
- NATO is now an aggressive intervening force, that has to be stopped
- all US nuclear weapons have to be sent back return to sender

The whole issue is that in their system there is little freedom and a lot of mandatory things, especially in the public and even private business sector.

They are the enemies of capitalism, not dealing with the excesses of capitalism but doing away with free capitalism as most countries know it and especially as the US knows it.

When one has been indoctrinated with this garbage all their lives of course other people's opinions seem far-fetched or nutty.

Recovery takes a long time.

communism: an economic and political ideology calling for a stateless, classless, and moneyless society
 
I don't think the entire party is socialist. However, I've seen polls where a majority of young adults think socialism is a superior economic system. So if it's not socialist now, come back in 20 years.
