It seems lately right wing media is trying to label the Democratic party as socialist or communists. Am i mistaken?

Do you believe the Democratic party is socialist or communist?

If you do you should really study the definition of each.

Amen. The question reminds me of something like: Is the Democratic party Fat and Thin? Even worse: Is the Democratic Party a Crocodile and a Candy bar?

Yes, they're socialist. Just as Obama was socialist, even though he was to the right of Richard Nixon, a conservative Republican from the 1970s. Just as Amy Klochubar and Joe Biden will be socialists if they are nominated as the Democratic candidate.

Take it from a true socialist, like myself. Everyone running against a Republican is, and always will be, a socialist.

Nixon was a Republican, but he was not conservative. He centralized welfare by creating SSI, he created the EPA, and his administration was the first to put Affirmative Action into effect. He also created the AMT to go after wealthy individuals, and the the worst federal law in the last 100 years: the Controlled Substances Act - which instituted public ownership/control of the means of production regarding certain drugs.

Everything above is leftist garbage.

I have studied Marxist ideology and various Socialist governments throughout the past 2 years, although my knowledge is minuscule i can confidently say that they are DEFINITELY NOT Communist in any possible way. The party has a handful of individuals who favor certain aspect of Socialism yet are strongly rooted in Capitalism and its continuous reform.

Yes, all of the policies you listed were mainstream in the 1970s, and were from a conservative Republican. He was progressive (as in wanting to put forth policy that progressed America's well-being), but definitely NOT a liberal. Don't confuse the terms, and don't conflate what is considered conservative now to what conservationism used to stand for. The conservative movement wasn't always the corrupt orange cesspool it is now, even compared to a criminal president like Nixon.

Again, he was a Republican but he was not a conservative. You can't be a conservative if you support massive amounts of progressivism/socialism like the drug war.

The Democratic Party is mostly right-wing

First you have to define what the Democratic party "is."

I'll be damned if I can figure it out.

True, but I'd also like to see Bernie Sanders and some of his crew study it themselves, and stop using it to identify themselves when the word doesn't actually apply.

I honestly do worry a bit that what Bernie is trying to do with the word Socialism is similar to what white supremacists are trying to do with the word Nationalism. i.e. Normalize it. Get it back to a point where it's being used in the mainstream to try and eliminate the stigma that surrounds it in order to make it easier to recruit people.

You say that like it's a bad idea to finally take away the Republicans' favorite toy & let us get back to where we were in the FDR era.

Try looking more into the anarchist schools of thought, comrade. We've got a pretty good thing going in Chiapas.

Wow, that even 12 people as of the time of this post said yes says a lot about the sheer level of intellectual dishonesty, at best, or sheer idiocy, among certain members of the right.

You shouldn't have made the poll anonymous.

I pretty sure it's more that he's trying to blunt socialism as a disingenuous line of attack from the Republicans by getting out ahead of it and robbing the word of its power (noting correctly that it's their go-to, reflexive bread and butter pejorative), than some dark, nefarious plot to bring about full blown socialism/communism.

A little bit of both

Actually, you can be a progressive conservative. There's a conservative party in Canada called 'Progressive Conservatives'.

The current Democratic party, even if you include Sanders, is quite far from socialist or communist in belief or policy.

To put it another way, they're capitalist through and through, they just propose a capitalist system with more checks on capitalism and more safety nets.

But it's still thoroughly capitalist.

Socialism in America is the first step towards the Nazification that is already underway...
In 1877, socialism quietly emerged as the Socialist Labor Party, which was mostly German, British, and Jewish immigrants.

The Socialist Party was formed in 1901. In the 1930s, the Communist Party USA converged to become the (Marxist, Bolshevic) Socialist Workers Party.

The socialist movement remains marginal, "almost unique in its powerlessness among the Western democracies".

Recently, however, there has been a tremendous resurgence in the socialist movement, masquerading as "democratic socialism".

This (in my opinion) is actually TDS, and will slowly fade away when Trump leaves office in 2024.
