Should the US Be A Superpower?

Should The US Be A World Superpower?

A country that elects Trump and is the most racist in the world should not have the biggest military and the most nukes.

That is of course because according to the left he was going to start WW3 the minute he got into office. Of course as usual they were wrong.

The most racist in the world...who allows about a million non-white people to immigrate here every year, just had a black President, celebrates blacks in sports and media, and has affirmative action in work and education....

Don't get around much, do ya'?

But back to the question; yes, the US should be a Superpower. But we shouldn't be the world's police force. I want the US to be a Superpower in a defensive mode, protecting the US. Our ALLIES should shoulder their fair share of doing the global security work (in their regions). Like spending enough to defend themselves.

Of course it has something to do with Trump.

You're asking about absolutes. The answer to your question depends on whether the U.S. is responsible or dangerous in its role as superpower. Under Trump, the U.S. is extremely irresponsible and quite dangerous. So, a nation which elects Trump needs to not have as much power as Trump has to do damage to the world. Under a more benign or prudent leader, we can do a lot of good and our citizens can reap great rewards, and I wouldn't be rooting for our erstwhile allies to take care of their interests and build new networks which dampen the instability Trump is causing.

The answer definitely depends on whether we as a nation are responsible in our choice of leader. We've shown that we're capable of electing a very destructive person, and we might even reelect him, so we do need to be restrained.

The world is safer today than when Trump took office. Of course the left are too blind in their partisan hatred of Trump to see this.

It was better when Obama simply deported them. Trump wants to treat them like criminals, which means internment. He is also looking into indefinite internment. The system is a mess. First thing that needs to be changed, is allow people to exit the boarder or be deported without harsh punishment and indefinite internment. There is no legal way for them to “go to the back of the line” and legally apply for entry. That messaging is a huge lie. They couldn’t leave America if they wanted, because trying to leave will trigger customs, ICE, etc, then they end up in an internment camp

Trump doesn't want them here in the first place. The left won't do anything to help him with this. Trump would love to just deport these people as soon as they cross the border but Democrats won't allow that either.

Troll post making 100% unsubstantiated remarks. Not a shred of proof of any of this.

Now do we mean an economic superpower

Or

A military superpower

We are still the largest economy in the world with .gdp of $21 trillion. China is next with gdp of 14 trillion. But china is catching up fast.and we are borrowing our way into the poor house.

As for our military. Nothing in the world can touch it. We far outspend our potential enemys.

U.S. military expenditures 2018 $686.1 billion dollars
China military expenditures 2018 $175 billion
Russia military expenditures 2018 $69.2 billion and they are about broke

So no doubt we are the world's greatest superpower with almost ridiculous military might. No wonder with the nuts we hire for.presidents the world is a little nervous. Hell you can't cut a.deal with an american president because as soon as he is gone so is the deal. We all know republican voters love them a war. Kicking.azz makes them feel powerful. When a republican president is lagging in the polls during an election year someone is going to get.their azz kicked. The bully with the biggest biceps. Is that a good thing. Maybe for America but not for the rest.of.the world

I don't believe the Chinese number, they lie about everything. That's what commies do.

I don't feel like Trump is making me safer, his actions actually make me feel less secure. I guess you would trust your most prized possessions with a person who makes nonsense tweets constantly and doesn't remember where their own father was born but I am a little more cautious. We can't all have that blind naivety though, can we?

Another thread inspired me to post this poll.

Had to vote "Other".

I feel that America has no specific need to be a super power but I still think that it should be one, but one that doesn't improperly flaunt it's super power status, which I do believe has been happening way too much in the last 25 years.

That is how I feel.

But that is exactly what you have.

Well, the point of being a superpower is to flaunt your power. That's certainly what Russia and China do.

Considering that the only alternative to Donald Trump was that lying, corrupt, incompetent, horrible evil old woman......I'd say we got damn lucky getting Trump!

Just imagine how bad things could really be!!!!!

By the way...to date I have been to 76 different countries and if you think the U.S is the worst and most racist country in the world...you clearly have been exactly nowhere......

Oh yeah

Our military/industrial complex is always sending out propaganda on our adversaries military spending. They want more money like 650 billion dollars is not enough. Vet your sources of.information well. China's stuff looks good on paper much like the Russians but doesn't perform so well.

Straw man alert! Straw man alert! Danger, Will Robinson!

Don't hit me out of left field with things like "if you think the U.S is the worst and most racist country in the world" -- unless you like advertising that you have some kind of boilerplate attack that you like to use against posters you don't agree with. I won't bite on such an absurd attempt to get me to defend something I never said, never came close to saying.

Dismissed.

Ideally, there would be no superpowers because we would all live in harmonious peace, working towards the common good.

But since we're selfish, clannish ape creatures three steps out the cave, I suppose it's best to make it clear to the other apes that we will react with extremely disproportionate violence if provoked. Today, that's how you establish "peace."

It'll be just fine until a breakthrough in weapons technology nullifies our advantages, and suddenly someone else is dictating to us.

With any luck, I'll be in ape heaven sucking down bananas that day.

We usually act unprovoked. Our hegemony over the world sucks so many resources we could use to actually help people but hey maintaining the empire is tops for our bought politicians.

Democrats won't allow us to deport them. Hell, ICE is trying to round up people who have already gone through the court system and have been ordered to be deported and Democrats are screaming bloody murder.

Democrats did no such thing and no they arent.

Wow, hyperbole much? You do realize that any immigrant is free to take themselves and their kids home, right? Like, this isn't a jail. They are not convicts. They are free to go back at any time.

Oh, btw, as it seems deportation is human, in your estimation, what about the ACLU's absolutely scathing and incendiary report on Obama's border? And what's your opinion on Obama's Juvenile Referral Process? Humane?

Those immigrants in detention cant just walk out. You are lying and deflecting.

We should be the Superpower.

This.

Frankly for our own good I wish it were not necessary. The problem is, if *we* don't play dominant-power world-cop, someone else will. Does anyone really want Russia or China filling that role in the near future? For the sake of the world, I don't.

It's a dirty job but someone is *going* to do it.... power vacuums tend to get filled.

I think a more objective look will show that our good cop role in the world has been a dirty myth.

Sadly there's really no other better choice still. So long as we have the money and the military there's really no way around it, but the world and any reasonably intelligent American should be very concerned about our current situation. The Next U.S. President once we get rid of Cheeto Mussalini needs to seriously consider a full scale denuclearization. I don't really care what Russia does the United States can no longer trust itself with Nuclear weapons.

Right now, we are a Rogue state. Most nation's in the world perceive us as a great threat to world peace. That makes us an irresponsible super power.
