If the US enters into a recession before Christmas, will you trump supporters still vote for Trump? I keep hearing that a recession is what will stop Trump voters from voting for him, but what is your breaking point? Enters into a recession? Small Recession? BIG Bad recession? I assume there are levels...

Since I'm not voting for Trump anyway, I can't honestly vote in your poll. Trump seems to think that his reelection hinges on the economy. That's what he always talks about and why he tries to bully the fed into cutting interest rates.

Nothing will stop his supports support except whatever eventually does, which I suspect no one can determine ahead of time, since it will have no basis in logic.

Trump barely won last election. When someone tells me they support Trump I usually ask them if they admire him. I haven't had one person say they admire him. The response is usually that they don't admire him but they like his policies. If his policies are failing, I doubt he can win, and a recession where jobs are lost would be the top of the list of failures. I predicted from the start of his administration that Republicans would screw up the economy. They usuallly do. If you give capitalists enough rope to make themselves rich, they usually hang everyone else with it.

The MAGA crowd (AKA 'you Trump supporters) will vote for him no matter what. A swing voter is not by definition a Trump supporter so they might change their minds with the circumstances, even if they voted for him last time.

Yes I will vote for President Trump in 2020 without any doubt. I hope he will continue his policies, especially tariffs on China.

Democrats have convinced me that the president isn't responsible for the economy. So I won't hold President Trump responsible. I'm sure the Democrats will usher in a Socialist Utopia if they regain the White House.

The Trump voters will vote for TRump no matter what happens. His followers are that of a cult.

No matter what happens it will be rationalized away as everything he does is.

Any Dems that think a recession will stop Trump's reelection needs their head examined.

The only thing that would stop Trump's core supporters from voting for him would be if he made his reelection campaign theme about racial tolerance and being humane to illegal immigrants.

You mean the separatist policies that have separated us from our allies and assisted a global recession? That policy?

I'd vote for this before I would ever vote for Trump

You're right about Trump's base, but they're not the only ones who voted for Trump. 45% voted for him. I figure his diehard base is about 35%. They actually like him. No accounting for taste, but there it is. He's worried about that other 10% whose vote is more conditional. Those are the ones who might vote against him if the economy tanks. In addition to that, the voter turnout in 2016 was low on the Democratic side. In 2020 the Democrats will be less confident and more motivated to turn out. Trump needs to keep all the votes he won last time and scare up some more. I expect him to ramp up the rhetoric to bring out the crazy paranoid fringe who loves him so well. He needs them. He also needs for the economy to hold together so the ones who don't like him but think his policies are good keep thinking that.

I think you've got that about right. 5 to 10% who are still on Trump's side because the economy has been relatively solid, but only for that reason because they're pretty impatient with Trump picking fights all the time. So if the economy turns south, he loses them.

There will not be any recession, Trump Daddy wouldn't allow it, cause he likes trucks!

:2wave:

I would not vote for this man even if my 401k tripled. He is an ass stain on the dirty white underwear of America. I am disgusted that anyone's vote could be bought by money. Shame on any of you who let money overcome morals and the good name of America.

49% of the country is intelligent and will vote for Trump
49% of the country is ignorant and will vote Democrat
2% of the country will decide who wins.

It would take a full blown depression for me not to vote for Trump. That would mean that I have given up on the USA being a prosperous nation, needing government benefits not to starve and sleep on the streets. If things fall that bad, it would be worth seeking opportunity in other countries. Imagine things being so bad that earning 20% of what I do now seeming attractive.

A recession won't help the democrats. During a recession, free health insurance, free college, no student loans, etc etc etc are going to be a tough pill for the middle class to swallow knowing they would be the ones paying for it.

Yes I will vote for President Trump in 2020 without any doubt. I hope he will continue his policies, especially tariffs on China.

Even though he has factually, albeit tacitly, admitted tariffs on China do hurt and cost Americans money?

Even though he is in the process of destroying all goodwill America had with foreign Governments?

Even though he promoted "little rocket man" aka Kim Jong Un to the Big Boy Table as a Nuclear Power, without getting any real benefit to America in return?

Even though his signature achievement, permanent Tax Cuts for the Rich has not lived up to the promises made that it would pay for itself, which it is not doing?

Even though not one red peso has come from Mexico to pay for his "big beautiful wall" as he promised on the campaign trail ad nauseum?

Even though 926 days into his presidency not one single foot of his "big beautiful wall" has been built?

Even though he promised on the campaign trail for the 2016 Election that he would be "too busy" working as President to go golfing, "like President Obama" if folks voted him into office, which they did, and now he has gone golfing 192 times already, at an estimated cost to Taxpayers of $105 Million Dollars, with his first golfing vacation he went on being only two weeks into his presidency?

Even though he promised to eliminate the PPACA "on day one" and immediately replace it with something "bigger and better and cheaper", which America still waits for?

Even though he destroyed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear deal, that Iran had agreed to and was abiding by, the deal made with the U.S., Russia, France, China and the United Kingdom — as well as Germany and the European Union?

Even though he blew up the Trans-Pacific Partnership accord that would have allowed for stronger trade bargaining against China than our stand alone approach that is affecting negatively our economy as well as the world economy?

Even though he exploits an orphaned baby girl for a giddy photo op, a baby orphaned by a Trump racist rhetoric quoting gunman?

Even though he has failed to keep his promises regarding the VA?

Even though he has failed to lower drug prices as he has promised?

Even though he has nominated the Federal Judges the Heritage Foundation has told him to nominate, and Moscow Mitch has been getting them confirmed, at a record pace, but Abortion is still the law of the land?

Even though he still kissing Putin's ass, despite his false claims of being tougher on Russia than any president ever?

Even though he is raking in Taxpayer money hand over fist charging us for him to stay at his own golf resorts?

Even though the American Taxpayers have shelled out in excess of $400 thousand dollars on the costs the Secret Service has paid out for the leasing-renting of special golf cars and other costs, the cars to use to protect his fat ass while out on the links?

Even though he is rolling back EPA regulations that mean there will be more toxins in our air, our water, in us?

Even though he spends more time tweeting inane garbage than ever reading important security reports?

Even though he trashed, TRASHED, President Barack Obama for combining official Presidential Trips with rallies or fund raising, but he is on track to break all records for doing the same?

Even though he made it imperative to get a bigger budget to remake the military, and he did, but now he is stealing money from the military to apply it to building his "big beautiful wall" that Mexico was supposed to pay for, in the process totally destroying the separation of powers the Founding Fathers writ into the Constitution?

Even though he has outright lied, misconstrued, or totally fabricated "facts" over 12 thousand times since he has been in office?

You will still vote for him in 2020 "without any doubt"?

With all due respect, are you out of your ever loving gourd?

So this trade war with China is behind this recession.

I'm amazed that China let the recession happen because our economies are so entwined that if we suffer, they suffer just as much. Maybe it's easier for a communist regime to let the people suffer if they believe it's for a greater good.

Probably will be a small recession that very few people notice.

How badly do you WANT a recession?

Why should anyone answer YOU with such a question? If the reverse were asked - if you would vote for Trump if the economy improved - you would answer NO - because the economy HAS improved and you incessantly start worthless threads attacking Trump - and even fantasy thread like this one wishing everyone really, really suffers so then they will vote against Trump.
