If the Democrats drop all racist claims in reference to Donald Trump do they have a candidate or a platform that can beat Trump?

I have no idea. A lot can happen in 15 months.

A lot of people don't like Trump's tweets.

But I didn't think he'd beat Hillary so what do I know?

I am not sure Democrats can win in 2020 at this point no matter what they do with the Trump racism accusations, this lot of hopefuls seems far more interested in one upping each other in the game of being most liberal to the point of going after Obama just because Biden was his VP.

It is truly sad, pathetic really, to watch Democrats seemingly destroy their opportunity to make Trump a one term President.

Why do you expect Democrats to normalize his racism?

Um...it's a Primary. One-upping each other in order to appeal to their base is what happens in Primaries.

Right now, I say no. The candidates and there are many, just don't seem to have a message for the whole of America. Maybe that will change as the losers bow out and the Democratic vision for America's future gets clearer.

When the economy tanks Trump will lose. He has nothing else going for him.

So they're not supposed to paint tRump as what he is?

I mean, they still have the emoluments thing going, the fact that he eats two scoops of ice cream when others eat only one, and of course Trump has not released his tax returns, which is certainly a pressing national security issue.

Nevermind the fact that he has refused to open the X-Files on UFOs - one of Hillary Clinton's many important campaign promises and one that Bernie Sanders has now promised to champion:

Bernie Sanders Pledges to Reveal UFO Evidence If Elected

Yes they can win. Whether they will win is undecided. As 2016 showed us the least popular candidate can still pull through.

Of course they'd be undermining their own offensive by not attacking a weak spot, so ignoring Trump's [alleged] racism won't help them. However let's not pretend that fighting Trump's racism [real or perceived, I'm not arguing that here] is the Dem's only platform. They have healthcare, minimum wage, gun reforms and other policies of their own to attract voters. Just like Trump's chants the 'lock him up' stuff is just to fire up crowds.

Do remember it is only natural though for an incumbent's record to be criticized in an election - words as much as deeds. So I cannot imagine why the Dems wouldn't go after him for the things he's said. Yet the smart ones like Sanders and Warren will also be offering alternatives to other pressing issues.

Well we all knew and saw what he was in 2016 and it didnt matter. That Access Hollywood tape should have turned off the female vote but it didnt. The Mexican comments when he announced he was running should have turned off Hispanic voters but Trump did better than Romney in that category. Honestly, I think the democrats need to get a message out of what they will do. Hear a lot of people thinking they are going too far left. If they want to attract indies and those moderate republicans they need to have a message that resonates. Hillary didnt and she lost. She focused on how bad Trump was and it hurt her.

Why should the campaign be conducted dishonestly? Ignoring a candidate's speeches and legislation (proposed and successful) and Twitter posts, etc?

Racism is wrong IMO and very divisive and as we can see, incites violence. Why on earth should something so important,so prominent in a candidate's character, be left out?

As you know, there were dozens of reasons that tRump "won," including purity tests on the left, a frenzied right, the electoral college, the reality-show media, Russian infiltration, voter suppression, and of course, those damn emails.

Tweety is a racist.

Absolutely.

I was going to say "why would they stop telling the truth though?", but then I remembered all the equally corrupt corporate dems.

I voted yes, but it will be difficult. Incumbency is a powerful advantage. It's likely that Trump will be reelected and the Dems will lose in 2020 no matter what they do.

But regarding this poll, calling Trump and his supporters racist is counterproductive and will only make it more likely that he wins.

"Vote for us you damned racists!" is not a compelling message.

I am still puzzled. Do you remember waking up that morning saying "what the heck"? Then I read some posts here, and some 'insights' that are even more puzzling, and it makes a bit more sense.

Trump bought the paint. He bought the brushes and the canvas. He dipped the brushes in the paint and handed them over to everyone.

What he did not provide was a drop-cloth. So don't bitch about the mess.

Why do you expect Democrats to normalize his racism?

That starts with the presupposition Trump posses racism. Which is not true so there is no racism to normalize

Why do you expect Democrats to share your delusion that Trump isn't racist?
