Trump Not Happy With Chants

Chant or No Chant

Guess all I would say is it's easy for us right now read and seeing what happened. 10 seconds is not that long? It's the armchair quarterback... always much easier to call the play after the fact.
It's Trump's chant. He started it with the minority congress women, and he defended his position over, and over, and over. And then he brought it up in a rally, his crowed backed him, and he says he wasn't happy with it? Worse, you come in here and defend him for it? It makes no sense, common sense. If it does make sense, can you square it all for us?

Here's the NYT story on this lying walk back by Trump:

Trump Disavows ‘Send Her Back’ Chant as G.O.P. Frets Over Ugly Phrase - The New York Times

What angers me almost as much as Trump are the gutless Republicans who enable it.

“That does not need to be our campaign call, like we did the ‘lock her up’ last time,” said Representative Mark Walker, Republican of North Carolina, a top official in the party’s messaging arm, who attended the rally and tweeted hours later that he had “struggled” with the chant. “We cannot be defined by this.”

Still, while they denounced the chant, Republican leaders declined to criticize Mr. Trump.

Congressional Republicans have struggled all week to respond to Mr. Trump’s attacks on Ms. Omar, one of the first two Muslim women elected to the House, and three other Democratic congresswomen of color who he tweeted over the weekend should “go back” to their countries. Now they must contend with the nativist fervor of his supporters as captured in the frenzied moment in North Carolina, with a rageful refrain that they worry could further damage their party’s brand.

“Those chants have no place in our party or our country,” Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the Republican leader, told reporters.

So, Trump sends out white nationalist tweets, all his supporters line up behind him and say, "that's not what he meant, he meant something else" so Trump goes, "Hold my beer" and proves them all wrong by inciting that chant in a rally, basking in it, and NOW they're upset. **** those cowardly , gutless, assholes. If they had any integrity, they'd have denounced Trump on Sunday, or Monday, and instead Trump makes an absolute fool out of those defending them, and this kind of crap is what we get.

You cowards in the GOP made this **** filled bed and are now worried about sleeping in it. I hope the stink never washes off these guys.

Is your tongue in your cheek; your fingers crossed?

No. I'm attacking Trump from the right. He talks a good game but has delivered little for his base.

I can't help but think the same thing. I've always laughed when anyone is said to be orwellian other than NK leadership. It's just so far out there. And while Trump is no where near NK levels, he's pushing hard to try get on the scale. We are constantly being asked to believe 2 opposing things simultaneously, the exact definition of double think. We are constantly being asked to forget exactly what we just saw.

But his rabid base is so damned ignorant that they can't see how they are being used. Feed them a diet of anger, make them angry about things they have no reason to be angry about, keep them from thinking and reasoning. If they can't see the obvious parallels to history, they are deliberately ignorant, which is what Trump wants.

All he needs to do is add some kettle drums, and his transition will be complete.
The Trump Youth Drum Corps. at a rally will bring it home!

Your basic brownshirt rally. Amazing that people are so willingly ignorant.

The point is, and why Trump publicly doubled-down on this, is that on a deeper level Trump believes white America is as racist as he is.

This entire exercise was to invite white America into his racist tent. Vote for me and you won't have to be timid anymore. We'll "fix things".

I think he will dial it back. It’s fun, but it’s bar talk.

Your idea of fun seems rather strange to me. Telling american women to go back to the hell holes they came from, that's fun?

Trump, as usual, is innocent of ANY wrongdoing. Just ask any of his supporters.

Yeah it's a real riot. Someone is going to get hurt, perhaps even killed if this **** continues.

It's really funny if you love violence.

I agree, so many of them make excuses for him and enable his racist, inflammatory rants and personal attacks on others which are just out and out lies. His fans have no integrity, and those in politics have no spine. I used to think Trump followers like this were few and far between, time has proven the opposite.

Those republicans in Washington hold his values, they only think of their careers and bank accounts, shame on them all. The few who have spoken out against his words and actions, I have respect for, they have free-will and character.

His base loves this kind of stuff, but like always he betrays his base.

He's going to lose in 2020, and it's not going to be close.

Trump should have said something like this:

"I was not happy with the chant SEND HER BACK because she has not yet been investigated for immigration fraud, tax fraud, marriage fraud and whatever fraud was perpetrated to get her WAR CRIMINAL FATHER US citizenship..."

From Trump’s lips:

Trump to veterans: Don’t believe what you’re reading or seeing

Who you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes?

A very good example. He comes right out and says it as blatantly as any body in 1984 does, lol. The way his followers hang on every word is so eerily similar to the war rally in 1984. Right now they are no doubt figuring out how to square the circle because they've been defending the send her back comments because obviously they were started based on the "go back" tweet, so they must defend that chant in order to defend trump.

1984 said:
On the sixth day of Hate Week, after the processions, the speeches, the shouting, the singing, the banners, the posters, the films, the waxworks, the rolling of drums and squealing of trumpets, the tramp of marching feet, the grinding of the caterpillars of tanks, the roar of massed planes, the booming of guns — after six days of this, when the great orgasm was quivering to its climax and the general hatred of Eurasia had boiled up into such delirium that if the crowd could have got their hands on the 2,000 Eurasian war-criminals who were to be publicly hanged on the last day of the proceedings, they would unquestionably have torn them to pieces — at just this moment it had been announced that Oceania was not after all at war with Eurasia. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Eurasia was an ally.

There was, of course, no admission that any change had taken place. Merely it became known, with extreme suddenness and everywhere at once, that Eastasia and not Eurasia was the enemy. Winston was taking part in a demonstration in one of the central London squares at the moment when it happened. It was night, and the white faces and the scarlet banners were luridly floodlit. The square was packed with several thousand people, including a block of about a thousand schoolchildren in the uniform of the Spies. On a scarlet-draped platform an orator of the Inner Party, a small lean man with disproportionately long arms and a large bald skull over which a few lank locks straggled, was haranguing the crowd. A little Rumpelstiltskin figure, contorted with hatred, he gripped the neck of the microphone with one hand while the other, enormous at the end of a bony arm, clawed the air menacingly above his head. His voice, made metallic by the amplifiers, boomed forth an endless catalogue of atrocities, massacres, deportations, lootings, rapings, torture of prisoners, bombing of civilians, lying propaganda, unjust aggressions, broken treaties. It was almost impossible to listen to him without being first convinced and then maddened. At every few moments the fury of the crowd boiled over and the voice of the speaker was drowned by a wild beast-like roaring that rose uncontrollably from thousands of throats. The most savage yells of all came from the schoolchildren. The speech had been proceeding for perhaps twenty minutes when a messenger hurried on to the platform and a scrap of paper was slipped into the speaker's hand. He unrolled and read it without pausing in his speech. Nothing altered in his voice or manner, or in the content of what he was saying, but suddenly the names were different. Without words said, a wave of understanding rippled through the crowd. Oceania was at war with Eastasia! The next moment there was a tremendous commotion. The banners and posters with which the square was decorated were all wrong! Quite half of them had the wrong faces on them. It was sabotage! The agents of Goldstein had been at work! There was a riotous interlude while posters were ripped from the walls, banners torn to shreds and trampled underfoot. The Spies performed prodigies of activity in clambering over the rooftops and cutting the streamers that fluttered from the chimneys. But within two or three minutes it was all over. The orator, still gripping the neck of the microphone, his shoulders hunched forward, his free hand clawing at the air, had gone straight on with his speech. One minute more, and the feral roars of rage were again bursting from the crowd. The Hate continued exactly as before, except that the target had been changed.

Trump soaked in the crowd chants in NC last night. He has said he ‘wasn’t happy” with the chants.
What are the chances that the next time an inappropriate chant breaks out, Trump tries the John McCain approach?

Personally I don't like the McCain approach. He was a losing candidate as President so whatever he was doing wasn't working. Democrats didn't like McCain until Trump won the election.

I don’t think winning was the point when he retrieved the microphone from that misguided woman.

He'll do what he always does:

1. incite hatred,
2. bask in in it,
3. deny it when the backlash comes,
4. rinse and repeat.

We saw this all through his last campaign. He won't change.

Being a man of integrity was the point of McCain taking the microphone away and disavowing the sentiment that woman was spewing. It's a sad reflection on the country if voters punish that, and our politicians instead of discouraging that kind of offensive nonsense, encourage it for purposes of winning an election, and it works.

He could? But I don't know Hopefully calmer heads will prevail and a chant like that won't happen again.

“I disagree with it… I felt a little bit badly about it… I was not happy with it, I disagree with it”
President Donald Trump

Really? He stood there for 13 seconds and let them chant and when they stopped he said nothing. He is a liar.

The base likes it. I think it will persist. Lock her up is getting kind of lame so they need something new. They can't wait till the Democrats actually have a nominee. The hate is too strong.

They didn't deserve McCain. He was way too good for them.

To return to my earlier point, as predicted, with a few days' history behind us, we see Trump has come full circle and done what he always does and it is exactly what I outlined earlier: says something racist, enjoys its circulation, denies it when it backfires, then re-embraces the slur to keep the base on side and then does it all over again next week.

1. incite hatred
So we've all seen how he called for women of color to 'go home' for a few days.

2. bask in in it
Trump undeniably enjoys the 'send her back chants' at the rally in this video. Pointedly he does not walk it back or discourage the crowd.

3. deny it when the backlash comes
For the next day or so he tried to distance himself from the chants, even though we have him basking in it on tape

4. rinse and repeat
He now stands by his original racism, and will likely repeat at the next rally, or even before than on Twitter.

the only times he didn't do this was when he said something vile (Pocahontas springs to mind) and just stuck with it the whole way through regardless. Otherwise this has been his MO every time he went too far and we will see it time and again in the months to come.

I do love the revisionist history some seem to have with McCain. Democrats were saying the exact same thing about McCain that they say about Trump now.
