Numerous social media users slammed Home Depot co-founder Bernard Marcus after learning he plans to donate to President Donald Trump's re-election campaign.

The billionaire and philanthropist recently told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he helped fund Trump's 2016 campaign, and planned on doing so again.

Marcus was one of Trump's biggest 2016 donors, giving his campaign $7 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. As of October 2018, he had donated a further $7.9 million to Republican candidates, outside spending groups, committees and PACs, the Center reported.

Marcus appears to be a one-issue financial activist.

“Something changed the world with the establishment of Israel in 1948,” said Marcus. “ I tell young people today—‘You don’t know how good your life is because of what happened in Israel…. Many of you who are in universities, joining anti-Israel organizations don’t understand that Israel saved your lives and your careers because when Israel was formed—things changed for Jews in the United States!

“There were no Jewish bankers—they had to form their own—like Goldman Sachs..

In 2016, Marcus and his wife Billi donated $25 million (U.S.) to the construction of the $133 million MDA Marcus National Blood Services Centre in Israel.

Marcus is a crackpot. A very rich crackpot, who no doubt expects Trump and the GOP to provide many favors to the country he loves so much, which unfortunately isn't the USA.

Nope. The co-founder can do what he pleases with his money. None of my business as long as he keeps the business itself free from his bias. I have not seen a lot of pro trump propaganda in Home Depot. I don't believe in using economic weapons to discourage people from contributing to political campaigns whether they are co-founders or 'associates' with a bumper sticker on their car. Its not about their right to speak. Its about my having access to what they may want to say.

The whiniest boycotters are typically emotionally stunted Trump supporters. The average person doesn't choose where they shop based on politicial bickering.

You got this backwards. Conservative don't even boycott Goggle and Twitter, since they believe in free speech.

The problem the Democrats have is the party is bankrupt of good ideas. Since they know they cannot win based on good ideas, they need to become bullies, who will cheat to win, which include silencing opposition who express good ideas. Once in power they assume they can force bad ideas on everyone, using illegal tactics with government resources; spy gate 2016.

The problem the Democrats now face, is the radical left has taken over, and they are not subtle about their criminal and con artist tendencies. During Obama, this was hidden and you had to look deeper for hypocrisy. The media gave cover. Now this is too easy to see and will turn off independent voters. Trump will win, and Congress will go back to the Republicans, so the work of the country can get done. Democrat bullying and cheating will not be enough, if their ideas are lacking.

Lowes will do me just fine. Its a better run operation any way.

Boycotting Home Depot for what someone who is no longer part of Home Depot did after he left Home Depot, is like deciding to boycott Alabama because a former Governor has declared, long after he has left office, that he thinks the CSA should have not been challenged.

Seriously, what do you think it will accomplish? Home Depot has no power on this man. They can fire him, they can't take his stock, they can do nothing. And to try to harm the employees for what someone who is not part of the company anymore said...I guess you don't care about the common man.

This being NYC, I tend to buy at a local hardware store small stuff for home repairs of better quality than HD, as well as items for older appliances HD doesn't carry, plus the advice HD employees don't have to give. For better quality tiling, fixtures, there are a plethora of specialty stores offering much better quality. And for plenty of small junk stuff, if I'm not in hurry, just stocking up, there's Amazon for Gorilla glues and tape, screw assortments, specialty tools, flashlights, lightbulbs and other nonessentials but good to have just in case for minor repairs and replacements. The small amounts of specialty woods I use for restoring old acoustic guitars, mandolins, other assorted string instruments, are not to be found at Home Depot. The last thing I purchased at HD was about 2 1/2 years ago, some Magic board to place behind the new tiling on the bathroom walls for water proofing.

Last summer, I built two new flower boxes for our balcony. The pine lumber came from an old painted over dresser I bought at a tag sale for $10. The dresser beyond redemption but not repurposing. Recut, sanded down, refinished with a simple clear spray of polyurethane for withstanding the elements, a few galvanized screws, better than the particle board sold by HD, and cheaper.

This is a bit off topic, but not too far. So I came across this survey question in a local paper yesterday.
Which of the following implications of free, fast shipping are you concerned about? (Please select all that apply)

One would think that, among all the talk about jobs and the green deal and such, people would be more concerned about other than the best price and convenience. It seems not to be the case, judging by these answers

18%
Pollution / vehicle emissions
17%
Worker hours
19%
Worker pay
21%
Packing waste
30%
Impact on small business
54%
I'm not concerned about any of these
More than half are not concerned. May be all these boycotts are for the birds, and our convictions don't reach far beyond our personal interest.

He hasn't even been with the company for about 15 years, and he's a 1000 years old. Stop beating up on old people.

This statement applies equally to Lowe's as well. Are you dissing on big box stores in general?

What he legally does with his own money has absolutely no impact on my decision to shop at HoDePo.

I don't go in for these boycotts that others call for.

I will boycott (avoid) certain places of commerce based solely on my personal decisions and reasoning, but I would never expect others to follow my lead.

I am working on a porch repair project right now with material purchased from HoDePo, because they had the supply on hand and had the best price.

I purchase to best deal from wherever regardless of a CEO's politics.

I, for me, would expand and say the average sane and rational person doesn't choose where they shop based on political bickering.

But yeah, it comes down to supply, price, convenience and last but not least, customer service.

My life is too short to worry about who a company exec or company owner supported in the last or may support in an upcoming election, as long as they do it legally.

Thank you! I was reading that post from "opposite world"!
It's the Left who's knee-jerk reaction is to destroy anything they don't like or disagree with. They have their little Nazi, David Hogg, calling to boycott anything and anyone whom he deems not on his side, or being a meanie-wienie to him. God forbid any conservative express their opinion or support their views!
I mean, hello! Chick-fil-A anyone? Hobby Lobby anyone? Publix anyone?
Remember how the Left wasn't happy until Ivanka Trump shut down her business and bullied ANY retail outlet until they dropped her line?
And on and on and on and on.

I usually shop at Lowes because it just so happens to be closer to my home, but hell, I'll drive 5 more minutes if it means supporting HD because hoards of malcontents now want to harm it and everyone who works there because "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa", the rich, old white man supports Trump.

He hasn't even been with the company for about 15 years, and he's a 1000 years old. Stop beating up on old people.

He's old, white and wealthy so that makes him the devil according to leftists.

You know why they hate this HD co-founder? Because he's the epitome of the American Dream, and socials HATE the American Dream. Being rich and successful is tantamount to evil in their little Marxist minds.

As an FYI, if you had used a danish oil product on the wood before the poly it will protect and preserve the wood much longer.

About 3-4 years ago the local HD either fired, transferred, whatever almost all of the older, experienced help and replaced them with 19-20 YO kids. And of course since then the employee turn-over seems quite high.. The problem with doing that is when I ask one of these kids where something is, they have no idea.

The local Lowes has people who been there more that a month, and walk me right to what I asked for.

I shop at Lowes now.

HD is the only box store I ever entered. If you could really call it a box store? HD made its rep as a placed where a home fixer upper could find everything they needed and didn't know they needed, in one place. It was an answer for gentrifiers doing their own work, or trying to do so. The prices seemed better than the specialty stores, but you got what you paid for. At one point it was a hunting ground for single women. Not quite the definition of a box store. Actually I found their best products for me in their home gardening and houseplant section. Saved me a small fortune when I was landscaping houses I was flipping, and later building.

As an FYI, if you had used a danish oil product on the wood before the poly it will protect and preserve the wood much longer.

I've used a variety of oil products for finishing woods over the years, most are better than poly. Likely, I'll be dead and gone before theses boxes need replacement. You have no argument from me about quality. I was looking for cheap expediency. My wife's hobby is putting plants in the boxes and we watch them die. No one can accuse her of having a green thumb. I won't let her near the herb garden in my kitchen window area.

Voted no.

Trying to boycott a company because of the rich co-founder only ends up harming the employees, and that is on the assumption that enough actually follow through with a boycott. What no one wants to talk about is Bernard Marcus already has his wealth, going after the company now does not really do much to him.

You guys really think that enough people will boycott and it will somehow result in Marcus missing a BMW payment?

You guys really think a boycott of any magnitude will change Marcus' political opinions or whom he supports?

It is nothing more than reactionary feel good bumper sticker level thinking that will probably result in dozens of Facebook memes floating around yet Home Depot sales, stock valuation, Marcus' wealth, and who he political supports will remain.

He's old, white and wealthy so that makes him the devil according to leftists.

Wait a second! He's not one of Satan's minions? Now I have to take his photo down from the garage wall where I have my worship the devil altar.

Uh oh, I hear two screaming 5 year old boys in the hallway approaching my door. I must let them in, because my wife is still sleeping. She was up late last night for a black mass, avowing "Trump is all, Trump is all." All what, I have no idea?

No. Why should I care if he wastes his own money? He can roll it up and make blunts out if it for all I care.
