I think I’ve done this question before but it’s come up again and the whole idea of taking pride in your race seems odd to me, like being proud you’re right handed or that you have two feet. Am I missing something (I mean about this in particular, so pipe down potential wise asses :2razz:). Attaching poll.

Being proud of something you had no control over? That's stupid.

Being proud of the accomplishments of your people despite the fact that for much of recent history they were not afforded the rights and respect of others? That's fine.

I'm not proud of my race, my nationality or any of that random stuff.

I live my life. I like people who are good people and I can get on with. I've found such people on five different continents. I've also found aholes on five different continents.

Race doesn't really do anything for me.

Racial politics is the construct of racists. There is only one race. The Human Race.

We should be proud of what is has accomplished, and ignore those who lack the intelligence to see beyond it's many variations.

Folks like yourself are usually dog whistling about Black Pride. Hint, black pride never started because some black people decided they were proud of their race. It started because of white folks trying to make black people feel inferior to being black so they worked and proved they were equals not inferior. THAT is why they are proud of their race. Learn something before you start such a stupid closet racist thread.

Same here. In my experience, people are just people with all the good and bad that comes along with it.

Well, someone’s triggered. If only racists hear these “dog whistles” what does that say about you?

Voted "other" just because of the wording of "No (but not ashamed either)"

Mainly because I am apathetic about race, it is something I have no real control over so I do not bother to give it much thought in terms of being proud or not ashamed of it. Deciding it is something to be proud of, or not ashamed of, or even ashamed of suggests looking beyond yourself and taking into account what others did or did not do. And that makes it far easier to simply look at the person without looking at the attributes.

We can still look across history and learn from what others did, race being a factor or not, without taking that on ourselves and potentially using it to cause additional problems and headaches today.

It seems far better to simply be proud or otherwise of people based on what they did or did not do with emphasis on the reasoning for it. Learn from, advocate for a position on some matter, apply empathy, etc. are all things we can do without deciding race alone is something to be proud or not of.

/yawn, you start a dumb thread followed by a dumb comment. Congrats you racist.

I am proud of the things that make me what I am - this includes race and nationality. I realize that this could be taken in today's sensitive world as being racist and nationalist. Note that culture is often linked with race, so more so I'd say I'm proud of my culture.

Those cultures and nations that are demonstrably superior to mine, I'd want to aspire to be more like them. I would not want to emulate those cultures and nations that are empirically lesser.

I think one becomes a racist / nationalist if one views their culture or nation as superior not for its empirical nature, but for pride itself over those that are different.

For example, let's say Uganda has a per capita income 5 times higher than the US, 10% of the crime rate, and is superior in a number of other social metrics: empirically superior. If I say their culture, race and country sucks because they are black, then I'd be a racist/ nationalist.

This has a caveat. If Uganda is empirically inferior to the US (which it is), then I am forced to say my culture and nation is superior. The problem comes in - the "sensitivity" if you will, comes in when those that practice inferior cultures happen to be black. Then it's improper to view those cultures as empirically inferior.

Bah...should have voted "the human race sucks" instead of just "no", lol. I don't really see any reason to be "proud" of white people per say. It's a case-by-case basis.

I can think of some examples certain members of my particular race ( Caucasoid ) have done historically that are horrific, and some things certain members of my particular race have done that are wonderful. Hence, voted other.

"Pride should be reserved for something you achieve or obtain on your own, not something that happens by accident of birth. Being Irish isn't a skill... it's a ****ing genetic accident. You wouldn't say I'm proud to be 5'11"or I'm proud to have a predisposition for colon cancer.” ― George Carlin.

Your avatar note should say "White Knight talking backward"...

Thx..I didn't realize the 'L' was missing, and I ran out of symbols. I'll have to doctor it up a bit.

Does this include gay pride?

Does this include gay pride?

Gay pride, like black pride, is from achieving the fact that gay people and black people are not inferior as some ignorant conservatives have suggested through the years. Your comment only demonstrates ignorance on your part.

Well, someone’s triggered. If only racists hear these “dog whistles” what does that say about you?

That's not being triggered, that's explaining a simple concept to someone who has decided not to understand it.
The 'pride' you're refering to is just refusing to be shamed. Simple. Black pride, gay pride, they're not about being proud of something you had no part in, they're about refusing to be shamed for something you had no part in.

Race as in color of my skin? No. As a white person knowing a bit about our actual history in america, what's to be proud of? We stole this country from native americans, we owned black skinned people and today we use undocumented workers to help us acquire wealth while screwing them.

As being a member of the human race, some days yes, some days no.

If we as a humans stopped spending money on weapons and wars and starting spending it for the betterment of humanity, I would be very proud of the human race.

The way I look at it, God just decided to make me the skin color that I am now. I don't know why but I don't care, and I don't really care what anyone else's skin color is either. If you're a good person who's not hung up on identity politics and cares about EVERYONE, regardless of skin color, let's hang out and grab a drink. If you ARE a person who DOES mind their skin color and everyone else's, putting identity politics first ahead of actually caring for others different from you, as bluntly as what I can possibly say it, you're a d!ck. To care about something that's meaningless and not worth your time and effort, you have to be a miserable and terrible human being. There's literally NO FREAKIN' WAY you can be all about identity politics and live a happy life while caring about everyone else. It's NOT possible.

Broadly speaking, the "Caucasian" racial phenotype group includes not only Europeans, but Indians, Iranians, North Africans, Jews, Arabs, Somalians, Syrians, and many others. These groups share genetic ancestry, as well as significant ethnolinguistic similarities. So if you're white, I'm sure you can find something to be proud of within such a huge racial and historical context. But so too could any black or Asian person.

Why would a rational person be proud of their race when they didn't choose it?
