I just don't see Iran attacking Japanese shipping, and especially not when Prime Minister Abe is in Tehran trying to mediate between Iran and the US. Just can't find a way that lines up.

Iran has been playing this game for thousands of years. Times change, methods as well, still they play it well

True. I've said something similar about Afghanis, that they've been hiding beside a road waiting for their enemy to come along for centuries. But I don't think that involves doing something stupid and it would be stupid for Iran to attack Japanese shipping.
I mean, to accomplish what? Provoke Trump?

I am in no way for a war with another ME country. That being said, the awkward way this has played out doesn’t speak to a unified front or steady leadership.

What is truly scary is when you consider the miscalculation of military action by any country. As the big brother, if we can prove the drone was in international waters, we ought to take it to the world court for recompense. If not, Iran was within their rights to destroy an intruder. I happen to believe it was in international waters, so the cash damage would be due.
Very touchy in the ME. We should not rush to war. If we are forced into it to preserve our sovereign rights, Iran will be a much different country days later.
Can we kick their butt? Oh, yes. But not for something that they can make right, if they were wrong (according to our official line). I am a conservative, but I am afraid John Bolton is too dangerous allow him to allow him to serve in the President Trump cabinet.

Nope, to increase worry in the EU and other countries who have oil/gas shipments thru that area.

Approx 20 % oil/ gas pass thru that narrow neck. Think economic impacts on economies that are not doing that well, where the ECB may increase spending.

Iran has done this previously during the Iraq/Iran war

Now Trump is cratering the Iranian economy- from corruption, massive in the country, to pressure from the US that investment by EU/US companies would /could run into problems. Little investment has happened

Inflation this year projected at 50%. Financial reserves draining, Iran is in very serious economic straights from US sanctions. They are almost cornered

If one takes a decent glance at Iranian proxies in the ME, many do see a long term strategic threat.

Look at the threats they pose to US interests/bases

What they set aside is the Sunni/Shia wars going on for centuries.

The world expects the US to keep the straights open.

IMHO it is a freaking mess and I do not see it ending well

Just some thoughts

Sounds like he chickened out. Not realizing the strikes may cause deaths before ordering it? No one believes that because everyone knows he would have been told if loss of human life was possible/likely before he ordered the strike.

With that said, I have no problem with not striking Iran for absolutely no reason at all. This entire tension buildup with Iran has been completely fabricated and everyone knows it. But, again, it sounds like he chickened out. Which, again, I'm fine with the end result.

Trump did not chicken out. He ordered a surprise attack, and then broadcast the surprise attack to the entire world as the planes were on their way to conduct the bombings. This made Iran ready for the attack, and they have some pretty good anti-aircraft and anti-missile defenses, courtesy of Russia. We would have sustained losses because of Trump's big mouth. My bet is that the Generals freaked out over this leak by the orange buffoon himself, and convinced Trump to call it off. Trump is no Napoleon. He has the complex, but not the brains.

I find myself in the unhappy state of having to disagree with a self identified, fellow Conservative, but, I object to your Orange hair description of the Commander in Chief. The President did nothing that diminished our ability to simply roll over Iran.
I have to conclude you sorely underestimate our military prowess or you want to cozy up to some malcontent. If our President were made up of all of the goofy things he is accused, why in the world didn't he nuke them? Wouldn't that prove the ridiculous narrative of the left and the few confused, faux Conservatives?

I agree 100% It was a made up story. Nothing new for Trump, but this is pretty serious territory to be telling his self-aggrandizing slop.

Trump has brought us to the brink of war.

I'm glad he hasn't pulled the trigger yet. But feeling pretty hopeless about what's coming next.

Iran not Trump has brought us to the brink of war.

We should let Jimmy Carter negotiate with Iran.He done such an outstanding job with the Iranian hostage crisis.

Remember when some people voted for tRump instead of Hillary because they thought he was less likely to get us into another war?

This is odd. Cartoonist are very often ahead of people with their drawings. In this case, the cartoonist made the dual mistake of going retro to President Obama's red line, and then drawing the Ayatollah and President Trump, rather than President Obama and Assad. Well, at least the carriactures are good. Maybe they can be used somewhere they make sense.

"It's Obama's fault."

We don't need another quagmire. I think Afghanistan is enough.

If he were still President, Iran would still have elderly hostages. Who here is surprised that Iran released the hostages shortly after President Carter was defeated? Of course the option for the left is to insist that his actions prior to being defeated were similar to the great leap of the economy, from President Trump. Insisting, as spurious as it is, that President Obama had somehow greased the rails. I give President Obama credit for the rescue from the President Bush pit, but that was the end of his ability. President Trump is leading us to ever higher ground.
