Since Mueller stated today that Trump is guilty of crimes but could not be indicted as a sitting president, and his report lays out 10 or so crimes, Congress should proceed with their investigations.
Mueller also stated that EVERYONE should read the report. Maybe if a few more Congressmen do so a wake call might arrive. It is inconceivable to me that only Weld is making a challenge at this very compromised president.
Mueller also indicated that Barr's interpretation of the report was incorrect. Barr should be held accountable for that.
The Senate is not going to act in a nonpolitical manner at this time. If the investigations uncover more information, or publicize the information already contained in the report that situation might change. Best thing that could come of it is Mitch visiting the Oval, and delivering some bad news to Donald.
As Nancy Pelosi stated, Congress can walk and chew gum at the same time. Start passing some legislation, continue holding town halls where actual policy can be explained and debated. I have never heard Trump discuss an actual policy other the Build a Wall. But at the same time continue the investigations, and charge anyone who ignores a subpoena.
No time line. Trump would like to force an impeachment procedure so he can play victim to his fawning supporters, while knowing he is safe in the breeze with an ineffectual Senate.
Gather the evidence and pass it on to jurisdictions that will be able to deal with it come January 2021.
I would agree except that Trump is impeding any more investigation and refusing to honor the subpoenas, and his minions have no interest in supplying this committee with squat. The committee is not going to find some smoking gun without the powers of enforcement that Mueller had at his disposal. While I am all for the effort regardless of what the end decision becomes, I honestly don't think there is much more to learn or uncover in these hearings.
It is also true that calling these hearings' impeachment' hearings, definitely will provide a greater case for successful judicial review of efforts to enforce the Congressional power to subpoena over executive objections.
I think Dems should follow Pelosi's lead and take things slow and methodically and avoid more mention of 'impeachmen't than is necessary to spell out an unrefutable legislative purpose obliging the enforcement of those subpoenas.
