Joe Biden keeps saying he's going to work with Republicans as a campaign pitch. To someone like me that is a red flag. I understand he's trying to appeal to moderates, but, I still think the DC conventional wisdom that the country is center-right is mostly wrong. If there is polling out there that demonstrates that Americans support a center-right, pro-corporate agenda, please show me.
At any rate, when I hear Joe Biden say he's looking forward to working with Republicans, that is about the farthest thing from a winning message with this type of lean-left voter.
To be clear: I will vote for a ham sandwich with a D, in order to defeat Trump. But, I'd like my ham sandwich to at least be made the way I like it. And that does not include working with Republicans.
Over the past 10 years, the Republicans have not shown the capacity to form any sort of partnership or consensus with the American people. I could totally see them working with Biden on things that benefit the 1% and screw the American people, while demonizing Joe Biden for doing said thing and pretending like they fought him the whole way. Because when Democrats and Republicans get together, it's usually to screw the people and do some favors for their funders. Bipartisanship with the legion of Right Wing corporate shills is about the furthest thing from helpful to the American people. Now, Bipartisanship with Rand Paul, I'm sure there are areas we could find common ground with Rand Paul. I was very much in support of the Yemen bill that Trump vetoed. That had a sliver of bipartisanship. Most Republicans are blood thirsty war hawks who do the bidding of Raytheon and Boeing, etc. And many Democrats are as well. But, there are elements of libertarianism that would make sound policy.
However, Rand Paul is an anomaly within the Republican Party. Biden seems captured by the idea that the Republican Party is going to return to sanity after Trump is gone. That's incredibly naive. I think it was Obama who said, "the fever is going to break" in reference to Republicans coming to their senses. Well, that didn't happen. Obama attempted to do what Joe Biden is saying he is going to do, and the Republicans called him a Kenyan, Marxist, Muslim Brotherhood Islamist. Berated him about his birth certificate non-stop. Usurped the Constitution by holding up Merrick Garland, well you get the picture. They were not interested in bipartisanship at all.
Because of Republican hostilities, and because the Republican Party has lost its mind, I voted for break the spine of the Republican Party and drink its spinal fluid. I find a Democrat saying he looks forward to working with Mitch McConnell troubling. And I wish my Democratic front runner would vow to fight him instead.
