Like Tashah google brought me here. I was impressed then by the people here and joined up. This was the first message board I joined and I love all the different types of people here.

So I was high......

I was a freshmen in College and was really getting big into politics at this point. 9/11 hit and things got even more heated politically. I was having discussions on campus with people about politics and eventually after my sophmore year I changed from Computer Science to Political Science.

One summer away from college I was eager for political discourse and discussion and had few outlets for it over the summer. Its then i went online to seasrch.

Jumped in google, typed debate AND politics, and up came this site.

I was mostly a lurker very early on, posting rarely and mostly just reading. teacher's exploits in the 9/11 was an inside job type threads were ones that always had me coming back. It was a colorful group of people from all kinds of political leans.

Finally I started posting more little by little and been here ever since.

You pervert! I say how dare you, sir?? I hope you weren't looking up any political skirts. ;)

:rofl

I starting posting in the politics section for the forums for a free online game called utopia about 9 years ago. The forum started to die after a while, so started looking elsewhere and this site ended up being the best one I found.

I got interested because I've been surfing around and this looks like the best site

I got interested because it looks well moderated and not let run wild

Other (please specify) ==== There was the least idiocy on this forum.

But don't get me wrong, there's still alot. The religion and philosophy section is a tragedy, really, and there are quite a bit o' partisans here.

Still, best I could find, I like the layout and extras, and it has a dedicated member base.

Good good.

I chose the poll option: "I got interested because it seems pretty fair and balanced here."

I've been a member of Debate politics for a while now, but I originally joined after doing a google search and finding this at the top of the list. I looked it over and decided to join - mainly because it seemed to be a balanced and fair debate site.

After my time here, I can say that I was correct.

I was (and still am) a regular discussant at the Daily Paul forum. However, I got tired of playing whack-a-mole with all the gold bugs and 9-11 truthers. Every time I exploded one of their arguments, two more would pop up.

The discussants here seem more level-headed. I'm a libertarian and I like the libertarian slant of the Daily Paul, but their movement is being dragged down by all the crackpots.

Cool,

I've only belonged to one other board...a computer builder's message board. They had an "Off-Topic" sub-forum that was very tightly moderated. They did not allow ANY controversial topics to be discussed. I kept getting warned because I kept bringing up controversial topics. ;) Eventually, they developed a "sister" site, so those of us who wanted to discuss politics, or other similar topics, could. The site sucked, big time. Little activity, less intelligence. So, I Yahoo!ed (I can't stand Google) "debating politics" and I found several sites that were interesting. Debate Politics was, by far the best. I "lurked" without registering for about 3 months and, then lurked after registering for another 2 months before I made my first post. I think the two biggest drawing points to DP were the interesting people/threads and the fairness and balance. Also, the activity level here is awesome...always someone or something to talk about.

Similiar story here. I hung out at the Abit forums, political dialogue was allowed, but moderated more so than here.

I joined DP at a a pretty controversial time. There was quite a bit of nastiness going on about gay/lesbian topics. Very extreme views from both sides. I left, and upon return, saw the gay/lesbian section was gone.

I found some of the arguments very informative, from both sides, it was the radicals, both left and right, that made some eye popping statements.

It changed me a bit, I'm a little more tolerant now, but still very untrusting with the overall gay agenda.

I got interested because it looked well balanced, so I signed up. I am a member of two other forums which are both over-run with liberals, so this is a nice change.

I forget who said it first, but someone said, "I don't read to discover what others think, I read to discover what I think".

Same idea works here. How can we know what we really think unless we have exposed ourselves to what everyone else thinks?

So primarily, I came here to learn, and secondarily to share what little knowledge I have ....

I was on another forum (boating) that had a section that you could talk about anything you wanted to talk about. Of course it drifted and got to the point that it consisted mostly of politics. I thought it was a pretty good group, had a pretty good mix of views, evidently the admin didn’t, they shut the political part of the site down where if you even think about anything controversial its locked. I still go there but mostly find it rather boring and come back here; there is something about this site that drags your screaming and kicking bbbaacckk. ;)

I think I was bored at work one day.

I always had a passing interest in political debate amongst my friends, of whom only one held any significant interest and his views were akin to mine, so not much to talk about.

I was a member at a non-political forum, and I thought there must be a political debate forum out there too, so I googled poltical debate forums and checked a few out. I jumped in here, since it was easy to remember. I didn't really lurk.

I don't remember my first post, but I do remember Billo trying to misdirect the purpose of my first thread right out of the gates. I made clear my intentions of my OP, but I got some moderator back up telling him to stay on topic. It was nice to know somebody cared.

I'm going to go ahead and vote for the fair moderation, just to pump those numbers a bit ;), but it wasn't a deciding factor for me when I first signed up.

I got banned from the forum I used to post at (for no other bloody reason than to disagree with the forum owner's stoopid Nazi rules), so I went looking for another place where the mods and admins are not retards and this one looked cool enough.

This site is well balanced.

Some cool people.
Some intelligent people.
Some goofy people.
Some idiotic people.
Some special ed people.
Some assholes... people.
Some respectful people.
Some Bonobos.
Good Moderation.
The Basement.
Victims.

Mostly lurker

Came from another forum - Political Crossfire.

Both sights have some good posters but Political Crossfire was being inundated with drive by spammers and posters that had no wish to debate with civility so that any meaningful post/debate was drowned out or ignored.

It was God's will.

God is playing a cruel joke on you buddy... ;)

For me it's what is luring me back. I've been reading a lot here but not really posting much. I'm tired of personal attacks I'm seeing on a lot of the other forums I post on without any real discussion about issues.

I was on a few smaller discussion boards and even Yahoo (when they still had them). I got tired of the single response of "Huge defeat for XXX" and lack of intelligent thought so I did a Google search and found DP.

I love how most everyone is firm on their positions so it makes you dig deep and extensively research the topic when debating. It helps everyone become more knowledgeable even if you aren't part of the discussion because you are given both sides with factual sources to back them up.

You're an idiot. ;)

I was a member of Liberals vs Conservatives for awhile and it has been pretty dead for quite awhile, so I decided to find an Independent Political forum and I found this one.

The intelligent people, and there are some...
I may not be one of them, but I do enjoy controversy..
Plus, I do love to learn new things,opinions,ect..
