If you had to ban one substance what would you choose, Alcohol or Marijuana?

Neither are going away. I just wish I didn't have to smell the skunk weed every time I go to work. Pot is legal in my state, and there is a store very close to my work place. Thus, our parking lot stinks!

Obviously I think both should be legal. And I absolutely believe alcohol is worse for you than marijuana. I have plenty of experience with both, and marijuana isn't even in alcohol's league as far as danger.

But I hate it when people screw up my hypothetical threads so, if you held a gun to my head and forced me to outlaw marijuana or alcohol, I would outlaw marijuana. I hear the gasps already. I would choose that way because it would be the lesser shock to our country. Our country already functions around legalized alcohol and illegal marijuana. It would just be the status quo. Choosing the other way would cause havoc for a while and I have little doubt would cost an unusually high number of lives.

Excellent message.

Excellent message.

It is really a horrible message if you apply it to other things like civil rights, because obviously that was the right thing to do even though it turned society up on its head. But as much as I love weed, I just don't see it mattering THAT much. And instead of trading in injustice for justice, like with civil rights, it would be trading an injustice for another injustice. So I think I am ok with my reasoning...maybe.

Very noble, and your logic is sound, but **** that!

If for some reason they're empowering me to pick from those two different bad options, I'll at least pick the substance I prefer.

Let the bootleggers and their customers worry about the cops for a while! We can look down our noses at them for a few decades.

Alcohol is worse for both the health of the individual that imbibes it (in excess) and for society as whole. It should be legal as well but if forced to choose Alcohol is obviously the one that should be banned of the two as it is worse by every standard you could apply.

What I don't understand is how everyone knows the effects of prohibition of alcohol but fail to extend that same logic to things like prostitution and other drugs. We would have a much safer society and much happier populace by ending such prohibitions on top of millions of tax dollars both saved from investigation/incarcerations and increase in tax revenue from sells.

I'd ban pot because I'm in a better position to supply the underground pot market than the underground booze market.

Less people do marijuana than alcohol. Prohibition led to the formation of gangs such as the one led by Al Capone. While I assume that the same is true to some degree for marijuana, gangs and cartles moreso provide cocaine.

You get me my weed, I'll get you your booze. I brew a damn good stout. :)
