I understand your view, really I do. I don't want any child ostracized for anything, perhaps because like many others, I had a turn. Not for sexual identity, but wearing the wrong style clothes at a time, wrong shoes, etc.. It hurts. I just think that we have finally accepted homosexuality as a life decision. But, why the surgery? I can imagine a time when telling a person you love that you are trans, and then have them walk away from you might very well destroy a person(all universal YOU's)

I don't see the need for the surgery but they might... I would argue that before any relationship starts, and certainly before a physical relationship starts, that a trans person inform the other person of themselves. I know that I consider not informing the person a form of lying and that would be that for me.

Let's all hope that the Birmingham, England, schools and those parents can reach a compromise, for Americans will be having the same conversation in the coming years.

No, not the same. Hate is generated through fear. Fear is a natural feeling, but we have to be taught how to turn that feeling into hate towards whatever or whoever is causing that fear. The natural response to fear is to either defend or avoid. Neither of those responses require hatred.

Same with love... one has to be taught to love and it starts with parents drooling over their kids from the moment that they are born. Kids come out crying and looking for a snack... not looking into their moms eyes with devotion as they write a hallmark card for her.

You do know that this is the UK? No democrats in that country but the labour party (and the libdems but they are not the democratic party because that is in the US).

Also, loads of Muslims there come from former UK colonies to them the UK is a bit home, they are not invaders.

Now about this LGBT thing, go **** yourselves muslim parents, learning something exists and that it deserves equal rights is not something you get to disagree with. It is the UK, not Islamabad. If you want intolerance you go there to teach your child but then no-backsies, No getting back in the UK. You are either fully involved in the UK or not.

But I do think they have the right to protest anything they want (as long as it does not break the law) but the government should ignore their idiotic demands and tell them that they live in the UK and in the UK schools will be taught about other sexual preferences than straight and that those people deserve respect and equal rights.

I was hoping this was going to be a (we the US citizen tax payers are not giving out our money to fund school systems to educate the illegal alien population) movement. Guess I was in the wrong place.

You have nailed the problem, though maybe not as you intended. Universities may only provide a forum, not engage in deciding what is BS. What you call BS is merely something you don't agree with, perhaps strongly. Smart people have the right to decide for themselves what lectures they will attend. You can certainly see that there might be circumstances where denying a meeting place is censorship. College has always been intended for free exchange of ideas. The ideas will sink or float based on their own merit.

To a certain degree I agree, but this is not unlimited. Colleges have the right to decline a forum to groups or ideas that they don't want to be associated with due to potential harm to their ability to bring in students. First and foremost of those groups would be white supremacists, but there are others as well: Most colleges don't want to be associated with the kink community, as another example (right or wrong), and the government cannot and should not force them to provide a forum to those groups or ideas that the college finds strongly objectionable and that have the potential to draw boycotts of the university.
