AOC and Beto have both intimidated fairly recent that 'we only have 12 years left', to do something massive about climate change. The implication of their speech seems to suggest they're saying that a major calamity will befall us all if we don't 'tackle climate change', and it will 'be too late' if we don't act now. This is of course the liberal/progressive version of the apocalypse story of the end of the world, which they chortle and mock when religious folks state a similar end of the world, fire and doom scenario.

Actually, we don't have 12 years left. We already passed the tipping point, according to most scientists. By 2100 New Orleans, Miami, and many other coastal cities will either be under water or will have dikes. Due to the soil structure in the New Orleans area, dikes won't work, so it will be under water, period.

We'll also have almost half a billion people in the USA by 2100, which should really do wonders for air quality, pollution, contaminated rivers and streams, etc. The cleanest air quality is found in sparsely populated South Dakota.

Can you vote for one of the No options Dan? It sounds like you're disagreeing with AOC & Beto.

Unfair options. I believe they are wrong. I also don't believe this is what they meant. I think they honestly believe that if we don't act dramatically in the next 12 years, it will be too late to change and eventually kill us.

They weren't lying. They are trying to draw attention to an emergency they honestly believe we are facing. They just don't have long enough memories to see how many times that deadline has passed.

They're getting their info from an IPCC report. Yes, I trust the IPCC.

Right, according to my own research, the deadline strategy for getting people stoked about environmental holocaust goes back to the 1970's, and there's been a new deadline every several years or so since then. Al Gore said circa 2006 that 'we only have 12 years left', which helped him sell carbon credits, win a Nobel Peace Prize, and enriched him by hundreds of millions of dollars. His behavior helped create skeptics, IMO.

The IPCC report is saying we have 12 years to act to limit warming to 1.5C. So, they're not pulling the timeline out of their asses.

Yeah but, if you remember we actually healed the hole in the ozone by limiting CFC's and we reversed our flammable rivers. This is in the days when conservatives cared about environmental protections.

The poll has bogus options.

Either they’re liars or their stupid.

Care to be a little less biased?

Oh and it’s not AOC or Beto

We have 12 years to limit climate change catastrophe, warns UN | Environment | The Guardian

It’s science.

Gee, didn't Nixon create the EPA?

Both very low-info Idiots...

Beto O'Rourke is using the AOC playbook - says humanity could go extinct unless we fix the planet in 12 years
Beto O’Rourk is stealing the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez doomsday warning that the world will end in 12 years if.

From a report at the link below:

We're doomed! Beto O'Rourke starts presidential campaign by claiming the world faces 'catastrophe' and warns 'hundreds of millions' of climate refugees will overwhelm borders and humanity could go EXTINCT unless we fix the planet in 12 years.

Who is copying who - or did they both think up the 12-year doomsday scare all on their own?

I have to admit, they've gotten smarter. Previously, the deadline and end of the world were the same date. Over time they learned that separating the two made it less embarrassing when the deadlines kept passing.

I'm not trying to be snarky, but they never do. It's not random numbers, it's just always wrong. Even if we were to grant the premise, it's impossible for the US to do anything. Just under 14% of Co2 emissions come from us and that is assuming they are the culprit. If we stopped all of it right this moment, 86% move forward and the majority of it from countries that are far less likely to take dramatic action.

There is the fact that even if you grant that Co2 is the biggest factor in warming, it is far from the only one. The planet still cycles. Climate changed many times before we discovered fossil fuels burned and bred enough cows for farts to matter.

Understand, I'm not doing the denier dance, I'm just adding in outside factors.

And let us not forget the acid rain. We beat that too. One of Ronald Reagan’s greatest and mostly unknown achievements.

Several years ahead of schedule and billions under budget.

Just 100 companies responsible for 71% of global emissions, study says | Guardian Sustainable Business | The Guardian

Just 100 companies have been the source of more than 70% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions since 1988, according to a new report.

The Carbon Majors Report (pdf) “pinpoints how a relatively small set of fossil fuel producers may hold the key to systemic change on carbon emissions,” says Pedro Faria, technical director at environmental non-profit CDP, which published the report in collaboration with the Climate Accountability Institute.

I find it ludicrous to suggest we cannot regulate 100 companies.

What good did those 2 things do, considering NYC has been underwater since 2015?

Chris Cuomo appeared frightened by this future world. He wondered, "I think we're familiar with some of these issues, but, boy, 2015? That's seven years from now. Could it really be that bad?"

And gas is $9 a gallon :lamo

FLASHBACK: ABC's ’08 Prediction: NYC Under Water from Climate Change By June 2015

I'm kidding, but seriously, given the ridiculous predictions over the years (NYC will be the lost city of Atlantis by 2015) haven't many of you guys beating this drum lost credibility? Even a Christian preacher whose deadline for Armageddon doesn't come to pass loses money and followers, but you guys seem to march on, collecting more and more $$ each go round.

If AOC believes that can you explain why she chooses to commute between DC and NY by plane?

We can't even convince China to stop throwing garbage into their rivers (90% of ocean plastics originate from just 10 rivers in China), so how do we manage 100 huge corporations, which lobby the House and Senate with millions of dollars?

You can choose poll option #4, the guy who said 'we only have 12 years left' way back in '06.

I’ll choose option 5. I don’t wear a tin foil hat because I don’t see conspiracies everywhere.

In my lifetime, I’ve watched as REAL Conservatives championed fighting climate crisis we like the Ozone layer depletion and Acid rain.

But because Al “I invented the internet” Gore put on a slide show, it must be a conspiracy!!!!

They said the same thing about the Dust Bowl until the dust storm from Oklahoma blocked out the sun in Washington DC

Should she walk in your opinion?

If they were 100 solely American countries, we might be able to pull it off. I'm not saying it's not worth a try, but I would need to see a reasonable plan that wasn't dangerous to way of life or anything to support it. Again, I'm also far from sure it's enough. I'd love to save the world for my wonderful sons and I'm willing to make sacrifices, but I need to know it's the right direction.
