There are threads going around in the abortion forum saying that there is some push for post birth abortions.

Thoughts?

It timed me out on the poll

a) a political invention to convince the low-information that newborn babies can be killed at birth.
b) a political invention to convince the low-information that if, somehow, a viable fetus survives an abortion attempt, it will be killed at birth.
c) murder committed against any person
d) there's no such thing, it's an oxymoron

Government-sanctioned murder without a trial.

Post birth abortion is murder... what else could it be?

It's something the Republicans made up. There's no such thing.

There's an academic discussion of after-birth abortion here:

After-birth abortion: why should the baby live? | Journal of Medical Ethics

It's not a legal discussion, though.

They seem to think that one side wants it be ok to kill a baby once it is born.:(

They seem to think that Governor Northam is in favor of it.

What they seem to be talking about is euthanasia which is illegal here. I would think before we made any kind of leap to infants we wouid start with adults first. But again, like you said it is
a discussion in theory. This discussion meant to be an intellectual discourse between bioethicists seems to have been hijacked by the some in the pro-life crowd as a real thing - that some seem to believe was proposed in a law.

The discussion I linked to isn't talking (only) about euthanasia.

I didn't say it was proposed in a law. But it's an idea that's been in discussion for decades, so it's not an "invention."

In any case, I posted it because it answers your question as to what it is, or at least attempts to, assuming it was an honest question.

Leftists have always argued that before a fetus is born it is not a human being and, therefore, can't be murdered as the right claim. Their own definition makes it clear that once a baby is born it is a human being and can therefore be murdered. Now they want to backtrack even on that.

Uggg...your argument makes no sense.

Outside of a few bioethicists having an intellectual discussion....who on the left have you seen advocating killing a baby after it is born?

So there is not a group actually proposing this? It is their way to try to make abortion appear like murder?

I think it is their way of fear mongering weak minded people to make them believe that prochoicers want to murder born individuals.

The way they were totally played in the Terri Schiavo case makes me believe they will actually have believers.

The same as any abortion...murder...

The idea was based on a misunderstood article published by Alberto Giubilini and Francesca Minerva at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at the University of Melbourne. The paper on which these July 2015 articles were predicated was submitted back in 2011. That information is from Snopes and concludes with:

Minerva and Giubilini’s submission (to a medical journal covering the broad subject of ethics) in 2011 was almost immediately misconstrued to be an argument for infanticide. Whatever their intent with respect to the article was, the submission was not recent in July 2015 (at which time it was nearly four years old). Moreover, the points made by the paper’s authors met near-universal objection at the time they were published, and no mainstream political groups (including liberals) leaped to embrace them; we were unable to locate any vocal medical, social, or political entity (mainstream or fringe) actively campaigning for infanticide (or as the articles called it, “after birth abortion”) in mid-2015.

While the subject drew the interest of many during a debate over abortion and medical ethics, the July 2015 articles mashed up old medical ethics debates with current ideological disputes to manufacture social media outrage over a non-existent issue. (The issue-no-one-was-debating template bore a striking resemblance to a earlier manufactured “post birth abortion” controversy promulgated in October 2014.)

FACT CHECK: After Birth Abortion

Fear mongerers gotta fear monger. If they cannot get votes with honesty they go fear.

I think it should be legal to kill your offspring until they are 18 years old.

Don't keep up on the news much, do you?

How about you listen to the news and keep up with current events?

So you cannot provide a single quote to show there is some push from Dems to make infantacide legal in the US.

An invented concept that's not real.

Yup. A group of closed minded prolifers have taken an Austrailian paper meant to be a discussion among bioethicists and have taken many leaps to assume that there is some push from Dems to legalize murder of a baby after birth.

Dear rational Pro-Lifers,

I know you understand that the Dems in no way shape or form believe in infanticide, I may disagree with you on abortion and choice...but I know most of you do not believe this hogwash.

That's a pretty hefty generalization there, MR. You think you can prove it?

Spoiler: You can't. I'm a leftist, and would never support terminating the life of a born child....or a late term pregnancy, for that matter, so your generalization is demonstrably false. And from the looks of this thread, every time a leftist offers their opinion on the subject your generalization becomes further demonstrably false.

Wanna walk that back, or … alternative facts?

When this comes up, I think what I would do.

If I was late in pregnancy, I think I would go ahead and deliver a baby with catastrophic health issues and allow for comfort care.

If I was in a severe life or death situation, it is likely they would do a crash c-section and the baby delivered would be treated appropriate to it's medical condition whether that was full support or comfort care.

It is ridiculous to provide links to something that even lefties know. It's not my fault you can't keep up with the news. If you are that ignorant of current events then maybe you can post in the kiddie section.
