"Is the GOP ok with Trump talking negative about Sen McCain"

Okay with me (grin), as he's been talking negative about McCain for about 3 3/4 years now ... starting with:

“He’s not a war hero,” said Trump. “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

If the "GOP" didn't approve, its voters would not have voted him President.

Trump's opinion on McCain hasn't changed. What would make you think Trump supporters changed their opinion of Trump?

Let me give you some perspective. I was a big John McCain supporter in 2008 and even before and even after. I really, really liked him. I really, really liked the fact that he was a bipartisan maverick that sometimes bucked his own party. I didn't vote for Trump in the primaries and I did not vote for Trump in the general. BUT, McCain fell victim and was mercilessly used in this whole dossier thing by the deep state wanting to elect Hillary. McCain was a big patsy who was used for partisan purposes. He had sucker written on his forehead and he used very poor judgment due to the fact that he was pissed off at Trump and not thinking with a clear head. I realize he felt he was doing his duty by handing this over to the FBI to verify something that was not substantiated but he felt needed investigating. But, again, he gave his approval to not only turn it over to the FBI but to release it to the media as well and he did it out of spite, betraying his own party. I personally believe Trump has the right to criticize McCain for this, although it seems rather stupid to bring up McCain's class grades when Trump seems to be hiding his.

there is no longer a GOP. there is a Trumpist party, and yes, ninety percent of them are ok with basically everything that Tweety does.

Well....having healthy disagreements on issues fine.

Talking about McCain's military history (as a negative) which included being tortured....captive for 5 (?)years, and even staying with your men when you had the ability to leave? Just makes someone look like a world class prick. After someone says crap like that about someone....it is hard to take any criticisms he may have about the same person seriously.

For the most part the people criticized by Trump are head and shoulders above him. The people he likes are those who get down in the gutter with him.

The senators and congressmen are all scared of that core of constituents who are all in for Trump. There are many in the GOP who want moderation but they'll lose their jobs or be drowned out by the red hats.

They're too far gone and they've dragged the party down with it. It's been taken over in a coup by a personality cult.

Trump trifled with McCain from the beginning of his campaign & for the most part properly so. If Trump didn't blast McCain for Mccain's
activity with the 'Dossier' Trump would be negligent in performing his duty.

McCain was a slime ball politician. Rode his daddy's coat tails and then his socialite wife. No principles at all. Certainly no loyalty.

Yes, freedom of speech is OK with me. I dont even mind if you say what you want.

So you support everything anyone says because they are utilizing their right to free speech?

Says a lot about GOP voters when they don't care when someone insults American POWs.

So it was the dossier (which has yet to have anything disproven) that made you go Trumpcult. Interesting. You do realize McCain passed it along AFTER Trump was elected, correct?

I am not Trumpcult and the dossier is still unproven to this day. It is up to your side to prove your case and you've got zero, zip, notta. And, it is obvious that the whole dossier thing was dirty partisan politics from the Republicans in the primaries, to Hillary & Co, to John McCain's hatred of Trump. It was Lisa Page & Co's insurance policy. She said so herself and when the FBI couldn't verify anything in it, McCain & Co released it to the media. McCain had a grudge against Trump and, as such, he would rather see Hillary as President than Trump, even when he knew the dossier was unverified BS.

Generally speaking POW's & Gold Star parents are exempt from ridicule & insults and properly so with few if any exceptions.
But every once in a century or two a McCain comes along whose behavior otherwise had been so flawed, sleazy & shocking that
they cannot expect that protection from mockery & contempt.

McCain was the type of POW that Khizr Khan was as a GOLD STAR father & Trump's disparagement of both was definitely justified
Benedict Arnold did far, far more for this country before he turned traitor than McCain ever did! Every avenue he intruded into
before & after his ill-fated 2008 run at the presidency was a god-forsaken failure. I could go on & on about McCain's failures
but it sickens me to even waste more than one second on him!

As for Khizr Khan who spoke at The Democat national convention on behalf of Mrs. Clinton: His son Captain Khan was a Patriot who
served America & his death was a tragedy. Meanwhile, Poppa Khan, who came to our nation to get his, was cashing in on his dead son's
duty-body-country and buying a ticket to ride on the talk-show circuit. Maybe a book deal in the works?
I don't appreciate opportunists who exploit American Soldiers.

His son died while dad was running a scam immigration visa mill selling US visas to sleazy Pakistani millionaires and going on
Pakistani interviews about bringing sharia to the USA.

Trump made a general statement on POWs. "I prefer people who don't get captured." That is inexcusable. But keep deflecting to your McCain/Khan-hate.

Even you know he made that statement referring to & only to the old war monger who violated the old fashion rule: you should leave the dance
with the one that brung you. McCain's last-minute Liberal heroics on Healthcare & the Democrats loved him for it, as McCain knew they would.

You can't really expect me to believe that you seriously feel that the US has been made a better place because of the activities of Khan or McCain!

What's remarkable when you think about it is what a small push Republicans needed to go from the party of the military to the party of "screw POW's and KIA's.

So, you want to take away someone's right to free speech because you don't like what they say? How communist of you.

I don't.
I just don't want them to be allowed to be shielded from the civil consequences of what they say.
The government is not allowed to have a hand in it but what a person says can equal an ass kicking offense sometimes, and they should not be shielded from getting their asses kicked, no matter who they are.

Free speech simply means that the government isn't allowed to interfere or hurt you because of what you say.
But if you run your mouth selling woof tickets, the rest of us should be allowed to come off the porch and bite you back.

The only thing protecting Trump is the fact that he's the POTUS.
If he wasn't the POTUS, he'd be taught to curtail his basemost instincts.

John McCain did plenty to piss me off, the Keating thing alone is more than enough.
But when it comes to denigrating his military service, any brother in uniform who turns on him is a scumbag.

I'm a liberal and even I understand this.

Some have spoken out against it, the usual sycophants never will because their souls now belong to The Donald.

What exactly would be the civil consequences for a private citizen criticizing John McCain?

If you had your way, I mean.
