One must acknowledge that Jews, in America and elsewhere, are not a monolithic group.
There are non-religious Jews, liberal Jews, conservative Jews, nationalistic Jews, militant ultra-fundamentalist Jews, there's no "one-size-fits-all" cardboard cutout that represents, "the Jews".

I could take you to a neighborhood where most of the Jewish people support both Trump and Bibi Netanyahu unconditionally, then in the space of five or ten minutes, take you to another neighborhood where most of the Jewish people view both figures as exceedingly dangerous people. And then I could take you to still ANOTHER neighborhood where most of the Jews refuse to even accept the existence of the modern state of Israel itself (Neturei Karta, Haredi and the Satmar Hasidim) and who view its existence as an anti-messianic act.

Admittedly, two of these groups are tiny in number, but the Haredi are possibly one of the fastest growing groups in Israel.
Most of them refuse to serve in the military and refuse to do any kind of remunerative work and refuse to integrate with any aspect of modern life altogether.

Last but not least, Trump's white nationalist base is supplanted in a most curious marriage of convenience with the Dominionists, who view Israel as ultimately a real estate issue. For the Dominionists, the Jewish people are regarded, for all practical purposes, as "Christians who are not yet perfected", because Dominionist/Reconstructionist dogma states that their mission is to convert all Jews in Israel to Christianity in the end times and to kill all those who refuse.

Naturally, that sits just fine with his white nationalist base, as you might well imagine.
 
Trump has proven time and again that when or if he must choose it will always be his base. It’s probably not so much about Jews. It’s more about his base and his base is more white nationalist evangelical than it is Jewish.

I think he would agree with me that making such a choice is stupid. I think he would agree with me that everyone has the right to think for themselves. I think he would agree with me that anyone who commits violence and blames it on how they think is wrong.

Let me give you an example:

You have a Jewish guy who murders a Muslim, a Muslim guy who murders a Jew a black guy who murder another black and a white nationalist who murders a Hispanic. Which one do YOU side with?

I am not the President, I do not have to make that choice nor would I anyway.

Anyone willing to kill over ideological or faith based reasons, nationalism and/or racism, etc. should all have their heads examined.

The issue is where Trump derives his support, and in this case it could be argued well (which is why I ran for yet more popcorn) that across several ideologies Trump enjoys support from includes both White Nationalists and those of Jewish faith. Even though those two are arguably opposing, except when it comes to Muslims perhaps.

The other mistake you are making is the assumption of Trump being pragmatic and thinking things through as you suggest, his love affair with Twitter alone all but nullifying your theory there.
