What state is the coolest?

Which state is the coolest?

The cost of living is pretty high. I shopped at the commissary and paid over $4 for milk. In the other stores, it was closer to $6.

I've heard the cost of living is high there; higher than any other state.
My aunt lived there briefly, as sort of a beach bum/ surfer chick after dropping out of college back in the late 60s. She said it was very beautiful, but everything was very expensive.
However, I'm used to making sacrifices in order to live in good places.
It seems to me that anywhere worth living, the cost of living is going to be high.
If a place has a low cost of living, it's probably because nobody wants to live there.

It isn't much of a competition when you're home to the coolest city on the planet.

Never question my love of Sweetness!! I could only post five pics. And let's not get started on the cross-town rivarly. That debate would be too contentious even for the basement...

Well since Cool is in Texas Im going with the Lone Star State.

Cool Texas, Parker County, Population 162.

We also have Austin which is the coolest and weirdest city in these United States. Its the Live Music Capital of the World. 1069 lives in Austin need I say more. Ok, I will say more. Austin has one of the coolest music scenes on the planet. Stubs BBQ, Antone's is the place where Stevie Ray Vaughn was discovered, not to mention all the other great acts that have performed there and call Texas home.

Yeah; some people seem to doubt this, for some reason. I've mentioned it before.
It really does, though.
Or did, back in the 80s and 90s. It's become pretty commercial, what with SxSW.

Austin Texas, Why Is Austin Weird?
keep austin weird

We've tried to stay true to the "Keep Austin Weird" motto, but I think we've failed, to some extent.
When I was born, in the 70s, Austin was still basically a large college town.
In the past 30-odd years, the metro area's population has swollen to over a million and a half people.
The original, funky, offbeat, liberal "spirit of Austin" (in my opinion) is still alive and intact, but it's now confined to a few square miles of South Central Austin, while all around us, surrounding us on every side, a bland, flavorless, generic metroplex has grown like walls of thorns.
"Keep Austin Weird" now basically serves two functions; on the one hand, it's a sort of battlecry/ secret code for "Keep the original spirit of our community intact/ to hell with the newcomers/ stay liberal, think green, shop local, support local live music, etc" and, in an ironic twist of fate, it's also become a tourist slogan (even as it's used as an anti-tourist/ anti-commercialism/ don't-sell-out rallying cry).
If you see a guy wearing a "Keep Austin Weird" teeshirt, a "Keep Austin Weird" button on his backpack, a "Keep Austin Weird" hat and a "Keep Austin Weird" bumper sticker on his SUV, chances are he just moved here last month.
Meanwhile the native Austinites are riding bikes and wearing teeshirts that say "Nutty Gringo" or "78704" (the 'hip' urban zip code; there's a grungy cachet attached to living in it).

California doesn't compare. Well, SoCal anyway. Northern Cali *might*, but I haven't made it up there yet. I hate Cali. It never ****ing rains. :( It's the same all the fricken time.

Then go live in Washington or Oregon where it rains all the time. I had a friend who lived outside of Portland for a couple of years and complained that it rained 300+ days a year.

The reason people love California is because it's good weather all the time. Not a lot of rain, not a lot of snow, but depending on where you are, you can get to any climate you want in an hour or two.

North Carolina - it's got mountains, ocean, rolling hills, a rich history, plenty of country side and small towns, and all four seasons (and a good bit of my family) it's not as expensive as WA or HI the last two states I've lived in

California has cooler versions of all those. And a better climate. And better food.

Weatherwise, Alaska.

North Carolina is best.

Florida is WORST.

I'm actually kinda surprised that no one has picked Florida (although I'm not sure why I should be). It's certainly not anywhere near the top of MY list, but I figured that someone would pick it since everyone seems to vacation there.

Florida seems like a classic "It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there" type of state. And I agree with whoever said the same thing about Hawaii.

California is a classic "It's a nice place to live, but I can't afford it" type of state. I realize that there are relatively cheap places to live in California...but living in Bakersfield would be a fate worse than death.

too ****ing hot in florida
besides why would a younger person want to move to Heavens Waiting Room?

I don't want to live somewhere that it rains all the time either. The whole point is wanting variety. The same damn thing every single day get rather boring. I enjoy rain, I LOVE thunderstorms. I miss thunderstorms.

Depends on what you consider "good" weather. Boring weather is more like it. LOL

And I can't get to any climate I want in an hour or two. I can get to the desert in an hour or two, that's about it.

Back home, however, there are places I could live where within an hour's drive are: Great lakes to boat, jet ski, or scuba dive in; 2 class v rivers, a couple class III and IV and one class VI to raft, boogie board, or kayak down year round; fantastic rock climbing cliffs with hundreds of routes; great caving areas; mountain bike areas and trails; horseback riding trails; and two ski resorts. And I can actually live in ONE spot - not travel - and experience all four seasons.

With NC, I don't have to worry about earthquakes that could take my state off the map. NC has hurricanes and tornadoes, but where I would prefer to live, neither is a huge threat. Weather is perfect here, all the seasons with windy, rainy spring, shorts and tanks summer, cool, colorful fall, and snowfall almost every winter. NC has a lot longer history. I'm more of a down home, country type. I have always preferred the Appalachian mountains to the Rocky mountains. The Rockies are bigger, but the Appalachians are prettier. Better food ha. We have sweet tea, the best bbq, fish jams, country gravy, and more.

I also have personal reasons to prefer the east coast such as this is where most of my family lives. Disney World is on this coast.

Hmmm. Tough call.

Mountains/Hills - NC > CA. By a lot.
Ocean - CA > NC.
History - NC > CA.
Countryside / Small towns - NC > CA.
Seasons / Climate - CA > NC. Seasons suck.
Food - NC > CA.

But you guys are arguing about two of my favorite states. Either of them are better than pretty much everywhere else.

Florida and Ohio have something in common in their drinking water, I think. I'm not sure what it is but if you're aged 18-34 and you're from either of those states, you've got a fair shot at being half retarded. Mainly I'm talking about the over-abundance goth/emo nerds and rednecks, but I'm sure it applies to other folks as well. Plus, driving through Ohio has got to be the single most depressing thing I've done in recent memory.

My girlfriend calls Ohio "The Hellmouth," lol.
