New Hampshire

Low crime. Affluent, well-educated population. 90% forested. Close to ocean beaches, beautiful, pristine freshwater lakes, and world-class ski resorts. No sales tax or income tax. Friendly people. Small towns. First colony to declare independence from England and the state whose ratification of the Constitution officially brought it into effect.

And most important of all: My birthplace. I am a Granite Stater and am proud of it.

Anyone who can't look at a skyscraper and appreciate the intricate mastery of fusing art with science is quite lame.

Sears Tower, obviously my favorite.

If you are going to talk about skyscapers, Taipei 101 is both taller and cooler than Sears Tower. Though, since it is in Taiwan and the Taiwan 51st Staters haven't gotten their way, I suppose it doesn't count.

I think New Hampshire is the coolest. I love all those Indian trading posts and the lakes are wonderful. Franconia Notch is magical. Echo Lake, The Flume, The Basin

....The Old Man of the Mountain. :(

They really need to hire Disney to come rebuild the old guy.

Let the Old Man R.I.P.

[*]Louisiana has the most, err, creative system of government
Without question. But don't forget we have great food, year round festivals, killer musicians, hospitality, and even with all it's problems......N'Awlins(no place like it).

Nawlins is cool. No doubt. I love going there. I haven't been since Kat.

I think it depends on the time of year really. Many states are more beautiful during different seasons. I am originally from the east coast. Pa. just out of Erie.

late spring when all the flowers were just blooming and the trees with new leaves. Have not been back there in over 30 years but I still remember all the colors and smells of spring like it was just yesterday,

I was raised in California but now have lived in Oregon for the last 30 years because I love the climate, and the people. Summers in western Oregon. where I live are mild, with only few very hot days a year. I have become use to the rain in Willamette Valley in the winter. The weather is a bit severe this year, but this happens from time to time.

My favorite states are

Oregon
California
Washington
New York
Virginia
I like states that are on the ocean. All states are wonderful.
Tis in the eye of the beholder.

We're on the gulf; and I once traveled all along the Gulf Coast, through Southeast Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and down the coast of Florida.
I love the Gulf.

But I haven't seen any other ocean.

Washington. We have everything. Rolling hills, mountains, desert, ocean. Good fishing, good hunting. Seattle is pretty cool. Spokane is friendly except for a few rogue cops.

The Gulf of Mexico realy is not the prettiest body of water. The Caribbean is nice so is Hawaii I also like California and Fire Island more.

i hate the gulf, ****ing bathwater, not refreshing in the least
Carribean, who doesn't love it?
Fire Island is awesome so long as you are not homophobic
I can not imagine what it would take for me to not live near the water

California is by far the best in terms of topography. It is the most diverse wtihout question.

As far as community goes, there are many that are great, or rather sections or cities in a state that are great.

Pollution? CA is the worst... Alaska is probably the best, and Montana.

People? Political mindset? Not sure... I am conservative, but I like the liberal mindset when it comes to relaxing and being mellow, enjoying themselves, just not when it comes to discussing politics or finding solutions for various issues.

I've heard it's too dry there. The air.
I'm used to living in a lot of humidity.

Depends on the part of the state. There are some arid parts in the southern San Joaquin Valley such as Bakersfield...but who wants to live there anyway?

Most of coastal California has a nice, Mediterranean climate. It's warm year-round and doesn't get much rain, but isn't arid.

The whole northern coast from Big Sur to Oregon is practically Rain Forest. Especially way up north where the old growths are.

There are insane mountain ranges up to 14 thousand feet. through the Eastern Side. The Sierra Nevadas. There is Lake Tahoe too.

We have massive deserts. The Colorado. The Mojave. Massive across the entire south east.

We have amazing beaches stretching for a thousand miles. Much of the best surfing in the world is in SoCal.

We have dry arid areas too...

There are beautiful rolling hills, farmland in the central valley, and dairy farming around.

There are two of the best wine growing regions in the world here... Napa and Sonoma counties...

The highest peak in the US, minus AL, is in CA.
The lowest point in the US is in CA.
The biggest elevation variance is in CA... it is Kings Canyon.

We have the National Parks of: Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Redwoods, Channel Isl., Point Reyes, Lava Beds, Lassen Volcanic, and Devils Postpile, to name some.

:thumbdown

It's okay, I realize you know not what you speak off.

We didn't go to high school together. I'll support your state for some polaroids.

I voted North Carolina! Because I live here, and i'm friendly!

YAY! ;)

I love my Tar-Heel state.

From the mountains of the west (where i now reside for college) to the beaches of the East there cannot possibly be a better state. If you go through the heart of the state, you will pass through the most technologically productive area in the entire nation-- possibly the world-- yes that's Research Triangle Park.

You have great cities like Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh. Each with one of the great Universities in the WORLD (that would be, University of North Carolina, Duke, and North Carolina State University, respectively). UNC was the FIRST public college in the United States, and we host a plethora of fantastic colleges... even our lesser known colleges (such as Elon [Burlington, NC]) are still ranked highly (as Elon is #1 in the South-East for MBA).

You have one of the top liberal-arts colleges also in the Mountains of North Carolina (UNC-Asheville) who, before her untimely assassination, hosted a crowned Princess. You have the great Poet Maya Angelou living at Wake Forest (Winston Salem, North Carolina). You have an extremely cheap education system, as the state government subsidizes most of the cost.

Now, can we talk about college atheletics?
You have the GREATEST collegiate rivalry in the history of sports between UNC-Chapel Hill and Durham's Duke Blue Devils (as there is, literally, only 8 miles separating the two schools-- 8 miles down 15-501). The schools host two of the greatest basketball programs in the world with great alumni players such as Michael Jordan, Grant Hill, Phil Ford, just to skim the metaphorical surface.
You have one of the country's biggest population of natural forests. You have a host of fantastic sight-seeing... the Biltmore estate, Grandfather Mountain (which is now under the ownership of the state), the outerbanks, historical Salem (Old Salem, as we call it), acres and acres of cotton farms, the 2nd largest producer of Christmas trees...

you know what, just come visit North Carolina, and you'll figure out why we are first in so many fields, and we have a significantly less population then some of the booming states.

Yeah, I have been too busy myself to go, but will have to make a trip soon to recharge the old battery.:(
