DACA For The Wall?

DACA For The Wall?

just wondering what both sides think

President Trump offered them that last year. A comprehensive immigration reform that would legalize millions of DACA people, end chain migration, secure the border, etc. etc. I thought it was an excellent bill.
The Democrats rejected it. They don't give a damn about DACA people or Americans either even if they get everything they say they want. They just want to deny President Trump the slightest political win on any issue he puts out there.

Seriously, the Republicans had the opportunity of a generation and squandered it. They licked the frosting off the top- passed the tax break and seated the SCOTUS judges-and now they want the Democrats to do the heavy lifting.
Mixed metaphors aside, the whole scenario just reeks of selfish focus. I'm convinced this wall thing is so front-and-centre because some contractors are salivating at the fortune to be made off a government job that yuge. $5B? That's just in-the-door money. The new bridge in San Fran cost 6 point something billion and the price of steel went up 25% in one day last fall. Hell, somebody would make a fortune just housing, feeding and transporting the crews. When you look at the logistics of building that wall think of a very expensive pipeline, not a bridge or building.
Sorry about the length but you got me started...
The "Great Negotiator" is looking more like the subject of the old Platters' tune:

Perhaps you [conveniently] missed the post right above this one in the quote.

For your benefit.....

A timeline of DACA offers Trump has rejected

That is definitely fair to say. The bottom line is that, on the whole, it was a reasonable deal which gave all parties something they wanted and didn't take away anything they were particularly hung up on. The media was even starting to come around and get behind the deal. However, once one of the talking heads explained that this could be a big "win" for Trump the whole thing blew up. Democrats didn't want Trump to have a win going into the midterms and 41 Republicans who generally oppose Trump voted against the bill in hope that it would ingratiate them to their constituents rather than fix the problems the country faces. FWIW, many of those Republicans who voted AGAINST fixing the immigration issues lost their races in November.
You know I hate to make light of the suffering (on all sides), but it's looking like it's becoming ... wait ... are you ready for it? ... a Mexican stand-off!

That's an old-time slang term, but seems to describe the situation pretty well.

Swell. That brings you through March of last year and COMPLETELY avoids what I was talking about from June of last year.

Where is the wall data? Does it exist or not? Stop prevaricating and deliver.

Pretty much.

I'm not really a big supporter of the wall and firmly believe that manpower is more important than fences but if putting up some wall is the way to get all the other stuff moving then I'll gladly back it 100%. Democrats keep saying that the wall is useless. Well, if that's the case and it's only $5B out of the budget then it sure seems to me that it's worth it as a way to get DACA done.

Trump was too generous he doubled the amount of DACA recipients that were originally included but insisted
the wall, ending the diversity lottery & sections of chain migration be among the conditions. The Democrats
then balked & the plan became history. That's the facts summed up. Why did the Dems balk it's simple:

A memo, co-authored by former Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri, was sent
around to allies calling on Democrats to “refuse to offer any votes for Republican spending bills
that do not offer a fix for Dreamers and instead appropriate funds to deport them.”
“If Democrats don’t try to do everything in their power to defend Dreamers, that will
jeopardize Democrats’ electoral chances in 2018 and beyond,” reads the memo. “In short,
the next few weeks will tell us a lot about the Democratic Party and its long-term electoral prospects.”

If illegals voted Republicans, Democrat governors would beg ICE to come to California, and New York State.
Concede the point!

Why did you quote me and post this drivel? Please quote someone else next time. It has exactly nothing to do with my post.

How will the $5.6 billion will be spent? Steel or concrete? Made by whom? At how much a section? How high/deep/wide? How deep does it go into the ground? Who are the contractors? Has the choice been tested by DHS? Environmental studies? If steel does it rust? Open bidding process? Penalties for worker injuries and behind schedule? Where exactly are the panels going to placed? Any effects on the Rio Grande River or underground aquifers? Is everything USA? What are the QC parameters?

etc. etc. etc.

No one knows anything. Yet Trump wants $5.6 billion and we'll do this on the fly. Typical Trump incompetence.

It seems like something dr. Christmas made when he pitched his experimental plane design he called the Christmas Bullet.

What "wall data" are you even talking about? You want to know what it's going to be made out of? The current construction varies from place to place and I figure any new construction would also vary as not every construction type is suitable for every area it will have to be built. I suppose, based on that, I'll have to concede that I have no data on the specific engineering of the wall. I guess you win.

That's what you're going on about? You want to know the construction specs before funding gets approved? Wow. That really is getting down in the weeds with this.

My house is not a border. You're using an incorrect analogy, here.

Your house is your border, do you leave the locks open so anyone may enter anytime?

Where I come from Luther, $5.6 Billion is a lot of greenbacks. Perhaps you don't care what that buys, but many many taxpayers do care and they want accountability.

You remember Americans voting for accountability? Does the November Blue Wave ring any bells?

Let's build a wall for hundreds and hundreds of miles! What's it made of Luther? Duh. Don't know. The stable genius didn't tell us.

Geezus H. Christ lol.

It may be a lot of money but it's a mere drop in the bucket compared to the total annual spending. Furthermore, wanting the specs on the wall made public before it's funded is simply absurd. It's like wanting to know how many bunks and toilets are going to be on a new aircraft carrier before it's built.

That's the way it is exactly. I think Trump will billed the wall come hell or high water. Just think that if those of the open borders crowd,
mostly democrats but some republicans didn't sweeten the pot with free medical care, food provisions, free education with some even getting free housing.
If those freebies didn't exist there would be little need for the wall at all. I heard on radio today that 1/4 of those imprisoned in the USA
are illegals if that's the case this situation is dire.

But it is Trump who is floating the idea and Democrats resisting.

Wrong

The Trump administration has rejected a deal for DACA
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...l-supreme-court-weighs-in-pence-idUSKCN1P42IQ

Vice President Mike Pence said on Thursday the DACA program allowing people who were brought illegally into the United States as children to stay in the country was not on the negotiating table until the U.S. Supreme Court weighed in.

Speaking to reporters about the impasse over border security that has partially shut down the federal government, Pence also said President Donald Trump is “very amenable” to change laws to allow for in-country asylum processing of minors.

And how would that change your mind?

Obamafail borrowed 10 trillion in just 8 years and presided over the worst economic recovery in US History. Christ he gave GM billions to bail them out which we taxpayers lost 11.2 Billion on his bailout.

And your bitching about a couple of Billion to assist in making America safer. Why is it I never hear you libs speak about all the crime illegals aliens cast on us citizens. From killing, butchering, rape, selling underage girls to the sex trade, to drugs killing our citizens, thieves, you name it they commit it. And that does not enter into your mind that something is dead wrong here. You have no compassion for the dead or the families and friends of the killed, raped, sold to the sex trade, drugs. etc.

Does the November Blue Wave ring any bells?

I remember the Red Wave that Obamafail lost 64 seats compared to Trump at 40.

Let's build a wall for hundreds and hundreds of miles! What's it made of Luther? Duh. Don't know. The stable genius didn't tell us.

Why in the hell don't your leadership ask, instead they could care about any kind of wall no matter what it's made of. You libs are for no wall. Period. You just want a line in the sand for a border, then they can just walk across no problem.

Wait, what are you saying? Want to know what “we” are paying for before “we” pay for it?

How do you shop?

Let's say that the City of Tucson wants to buy new police cars. My concern is, primarily, why they want to buy new police cars and how much they plan to spend. I might even want to know how many new cars they're going to buy. I probably don't care a whole lot about what make and model they're planning to buy as long as it works for them. I definitely don't care what tread design on the tires they're going with, whether they're getting free floor mats thrown in, if the cages are going to be perforated steel, plexiglass or steel mesh, whether the cup holder will handle a "Big Gulp", etc.

When it comes to the border wall, we've already got a bunch built and several wall types are in different areas because different areas NEED different types of wall. I'm MUCH more inclined to hand over a few billion (or tens of billions, as the case may be) and let the ones handling the project come up with the best fit. I'm not a wall expert and have no intention of becoming one just so I can better resist the president.

Is it too much to ask Trump to fill us in as to where this portion of the wall is located?

I’m thinking I’d like to have the LEO vehicle contract in Tucson........
