I was told by my college biology professor not to question the dogma he was presenting because he was not there to answer questions but to teach the textbook propaganda and nothing but the propaganda. (Propaganda is my word for what he was talking about.)

College instruction like that is not designed to get students to think but to get students to blindly accept without question what they are being told, even if it is wrong.

Bull****.

Ageing Gen X. Problem with the definitions in the OP though - too narrow. Gen Xers were among the first to take up environmental concerns and care about saving the world rather than just 'their neighborhoods' in the late 80's and nineties.

That sounds a lot like religious indoctrination.

Can we have at least one Trumpless thread?

Wouldn't that be nice? But probably not, Trump Derangement Syndrome is in full swing.

Yes, although it won't be as scientific as that. ;)

I've been an observer of political trends most of my life, having transitioned from "save the world revolutionary" through "Party-Hardy Yuppie" and then "MTV/Underground Clubber" and ultimately to (mostly) Classical Liberal beliefs.

I just wondered if my personal observations of what generations were being represented by the tenor of member posts would be accurately reflected by generational divides here in the Forum.

The problem with this poll is that once we vote, we can't see who voted which way.

Yes you can.

It is an OPEN poll. Just click on the number voted in the choice and it shows ALL the members who voted in ALL categories.

Different people seem hooked on different types of opinions. I believe God and reject evolution and other fiction science nonsense. Others have different opinions they cling to.

Yeah, the average college degree may have cost around $7000 a year back then but I was also earning $2.55 an hour working full time on the midshift.

$2.55 in 1975 dollars is $11.90 in 2018 dollars ... which is 70%-ish percent larger than today's minimum wage?

$2.55 in 1975 ? 2018 | Inflation Calculator

Would I also be correct in saying that you like many Boomers these days oppose raising the minimum wage - even 70%?

Well given that 'evolution' is one of the core, fundamental building blocks of as well as unequivocally and indisputably evidenced by the academic disciplines of biology, zoology, botany, genetics, biochemistry, ecology, microbiology, paleontology, entomology, genetics, virology and even anthropology ... I would agree with your biology professor that you are ****ing stupid.

This isn't a thread about the minimum wage. By the way that job of mine was NOT a minimum wage position. MW was around $1.25 if I recall correctly.

Couldn't answer the poll. There wasn't a choice for Generation Old as ****.

Thank you, I didn't know that.

You call me stupid but do nothing to prove evolution right or Christian researchers wrong.

We're at Post 116.

The counts are getting more mixed. With 108 voting in the poll.

3 (3%) are Silent Generation.

43 (40%) are Babyboomers

33 (31%) are Generation X.

28 (26%) are Generation Y/Millennials.

1 (1 %) is Generation Z/Boomlets.

I am pleased to see that we do have some members of the Silent Generation actively participating in the Forum. Kudos!

However, (WARNING: Personal Opinion at this point)

I also note that many of our "usual suspects" (several of the most "progressive/trolling" ;) ) and also a few other relatively active members have not voted.

Perhaps it's because of the descriptor used for "Millennials" which may have been off-putting, and for that I apologize. It is the "standard use" description meant to be tongue-in-cheek and not to be intentionally insulting. :3oops:

Still, IMO while some did not respond simply because they may have missed the poll, several have previously self-identified as falling into one of the categories between 1965 - Present.

I believe that some simply don't want this to be confirmed, because several also appear to be the most "woke" Forum participants and might prefer not to show this could have something to do with how they have been "educated/indoctrinated" during that period.

IMO that should not have been a problem if they truly believe this is actually a positive trend which should be emulated and lauded as progressive advancement. END of Personal Opinion.

Cause old Leftists look stupid? ;)

Us old leftists might look stupid and then you take away our spotlight by saying something stupid. Respect your elders child.

'Standard use'; uh huh.

What I find upsetting is the fact that college professors will not allow students to question the science dogma propaganda as if questioning old tales erroneously believed to be solid science is unscientific.

Um, that is not what college / university is about. Is it too late to get your money back? On the other end, professors love to encourage meaningful discussion. If its completely off the wall with no support except that it came out of your head (or other places) you will get the same kind of dismissal from a PhD that you would get for unsubstantiated, off the wall arguments and propositions. Do you have a history of this?

Well this is interesting.

We are at post #29 with 28 people voting in the poll and 57% of respondents are Babyboomers.

6 (21.5%) are Generation X.

5 (18%) are Millennials.

1 (3.5%) are Generation Z.

NOTE: There are a couple of members self-identifying as Generation Y who posted as offended by the Millennial description (taken from the source citation) and appear to have declined to answer.

You do realize that you can get this information right on DP.
