The Wall

The Mexico-US Wall

"The Wall" is a demarcation line for Trump according to a lot of conservatives.
He got elected on it as a major point in his campaign.
If he does not deliver, we will find someone else who can.

Now...back in the real world, this is merely a talking point and nothing will ever happen.
Both party elitist need illegals to trim their lawns and do their laundry and don't give one rat's ass about what we want.
Both party elitists and Hollywood types have already built their walls and live behind them.
This is a non-issue for both parties. They are just grand-standing for the cameras....all of them.

EDIT...Oh, almost forgot....and it gives TV opinion shows something to talk about, pro or con.

The wall was a useful theme for Trump to flog about a problem that was diminishing. So we’re a rich country next to a poor country, from which people come to do work we’d rather not. Big deal. A demagogue uses the issue and his supporters hyperventilate. People have been crossing from one land to another for thousands of years. Europeans invaded Africa and Americans invaded Latin America, and we are all shocked, I say, shocked and outraged, that they have wandered north to repay the favor. How dare they! This too shall pass as the issue of the day.

I agree completely.

With my health in decline, I was told a few months ago by a former member here where to go for Mexican labor if i need some stuff done I can't manage to do.
It was funny, but everyone I talk to in the area also knew where to go. They wait around there every day.
No one cares, so why should I.
I just thought it funny how common knowledge it was.

Evidently the locals here go to Lowe's or Home depot, get their materials, drop them off, then go to that place, pick up a few of them, have them do the work, and them drop them off where they want to go.
It is just common knowledge and all the locals know it.
Cute.

Other. The reality is that immigration (legal or not) helps to keep US wages lower than they would otherwise be and that immigration "reform" (amnesty coupled with a much more rapid "path to citizenship") will produce helpful voter demographic changes. Those positions are not often advertised but are the only plausible explanations for intentionally having immigration law "enforcement" funding which allows 12M (to 20M?) illegal immigrants (and their birthright citizen offspring) to remain inside the US.

Common sense would dictate that laws to allow "job creators" to deduct the costs of illegal immigrant labor would be removed - that is simple to do by requiring any W-2 or 1099 labor cost deduction to be accompanied by a current eVerify certification. By simply removing most the employment opportunities for illegal immigrants inside the US many (if not most) would self deport.

Border security may be bad but interior enforcement of US immigration law is far worse. We have fewer ICE/ERO agents that are supposed to enforce immigration law within the entire US interior than for the city police departments of Boston, MA and Baltimore MD combined. Once inside the US, whether by illegal entry or simply overstaying a 'temporary' visa, the chances of an illegal immigrant (with fake ID) ever being identified and removed are rather remote.

California and other states are in deep fiscal trouble in part due to the massive costs associated with caring for illegal immigrants. What good are supposed lower wages for farm workers when the state needs fewer people on welfare and more people in high paid jobs paying high income taxes to support the government?.

It's a ****ing misdemeanor, for piss sakes.

So long as they aren't transporting human cargo, drugs, fleeing punishment, or a returning criminal correct?

Not to mention the other abhorrent things that go on within the rungs of illegal immigration.

You seem to be forgetting that if one is willing to break a single law, than many more are possible to follow.

A diminishing problem... and how many people have tried to force their way through already?

California's streets are nearly paved with human **** and used needles at this point.

If I had to guess how many problems that state has at this point. My first guess would be a lot.

The Middle Class is Skedaddling
..They cant make it there anymore because of the cost of living..which is of course CERTAIN DOOM.

(1) The conservatives want the Wall because they want immigration laws to be obeyed.

(2) The liberals oppose the Wall because they oppose anything that President Trump wants.

(3) A wall will NOT stop illegal immigration. People have been crossing the border for centuries, and they will continue to do so.

CA and many other states see that problem as easily solved by making those costs federal. Expanded Medicaid (part of PPACA) is a good example - for every $1 of state funds spent on that (newest?) "safety net" (welfare?) program, the federal government adds $9 of federal spending in that state. Does that sound like a bad deal (problem?) for CA to you?

You seem to be forgetting that even if illegal immigrants do not vote (yet?) they are people and thus count in the census totals used to apportion House seats and EC power. Having ever more federal aid directed into your state reduces (or eventually eliminates?) the need for using state funds to do so.

Poverty and degredation brings trash into the streets.

Of course California fights federal immigration laws while demanding federal dollars to support their growing numbers of incoming illegal aliens.

Former President Regan gave amnesty to more that 2 million illegal aliens in the 1980's. This was a part of a deal for comprehensive immigration reform. The problem was the reform laws, that were part of the amnesty deal, were not enforced. The lack of enforcement, in the light of amnesty, became a magnetic that attracted tens of millions of new illegal immigrants. If you don't lean from history you will repeat the mistakes of the past.

The wall is needed to keep politicians from both sides, especially the Democrats, from ignoring the law after a new comprehensive deal is made. Obama ignored the law and made the problem worst. This worsening of the problem was part the reason Trump was elected. The wall, if done properly becomes a intimidating physical barrier that makes it very difficult to enter. This makes it harder for Democrats to renege on any deal even if Democrats regain control and ignore the law once again. Even if the Democrats were to reduce border security, a good wall is a still an effective passive restraint.

With a wall as a safety net in place, that can undermine cheating politicians, the US can offer a path toward amnesty for the 20 million who broke the law. Without the wall, the Democrats will lie and cheat, and any talk of amnesty will become another illegal alien magnet that would make 20 million illegals look like chump change. The Democrats do not want a wall since it will make it harder to cheat the America people for personal gain without drawing attention.

I think that (bolded above) answers your initial question as to why CA wants more poor people. Low wage folks (regardless of immigration status) help keep labor costs down and make federal aid go up in the state.

The wall on the Mexico-Us border has become a left-right symbol.
1) I agree
2) I disagree
3) the wall will solve illegal immigration from the south

What a stupid poll. You could have at least allowed multiple answers. No one said it would "solve" illegal immigration, not even Trump. However, it is Democrat's fierce opposition to the wall which convinced me that they are terrified it would work to a much larger degree than I imagined. 5 Billion is a mere drop in the bucket for lawmakers. If they wanted to, Democrats could humor Trump by giving him the money and then afterwards saying, "See, I told you so". And don't give me any crap that Democrats don't want to spend 5 billion dollars. If you gave them a blank check for 5 b's they would spend it in a heart beat. The party of sanctuary cities and sanctuary states is absolutely terrified that the wall will work.

California's bad immigration policies are based on lust for federal dollars?

I voted it's a conservative symbol now. When you have more than others, you don't build a higher wall. You build a longer table.

How many immigrants are you currently sponsoring?

California's bad immigration policies are based on lust for federal dollars?

actually, like many other blue states, the return of taxes to the state of california is less than the amount paid into the treasury
graph treasury contributions returned by state.jpg
see if you can identify anything in common with those top-most dozen states

A 10-foot wall can be scaled by an 11-foot ladder.

Lets have a bill for a 90 day waiting period to buy an 11 foot ladder

Same where I live. The same corners always occupied in the am.

...will never be built

Eh....we have a limited wall on out southern border and in the places where it is the flow of illegal aliens have been reduced by 90%. If a wall didn't work why do American's elite have them around their homes.

A diminishing problem... and how many people have tried to force their way through already?

Illegal immigration was down when Trump made his "they're rapists" speech about Mexicans. He brilliantly and cynically seized on an issue that played to fears or resentments of folks who get annoyed at hearing "press one for English." Just one aspect of his fascist style. (And no, I am not saying he is a Nazi, just that his style and themes are reminiscent of Il Duce.)
