The only one of those links that makes any claims about "liberals" is the 2nd one, and it acknowledges that the effect it points to may be unintentional. That doesn't fit with the "choose" in your OP title question.
In my experience, people sort more on a socioeconomic basis. People who have kids often factor in the school system in an area, at least when they are financially able to pick such things. "diversity"?
