I think he should be confirmed judge... then if he has to go to court on this matter and loses.... then he should be impeached

Question in full: If the charge of sexual assault during a party in high school by Christine Blasey Ford against Brett Kavanaugh is true, do you think Brett Kavanaugh… should be confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court?

Simple question. Simple answer.

1. The question has nothing to do with Clinton or Obama so don't even start with the "What about...?" responses.

2. The question is hypothetical and straightforward. If you want to add conditions to the question ("Yeah, but what if Kavanaugh was only pretending to assault the woman/women" or "What if Kavanaugh was only doing it because he was drunk?", etc.) then start your own thread with all the hypothetical additions you can think of. Don't do it here. I did not include an "Other" response option because the question is a straightforward.

3. "If the charge is true ..." This thread is not intended to be another thread addressing the question or guilt or innocence. There are already many threads where that discussion is taking place. This thread asks whether you would or would not support Kavanaugh's confirmation IF the charge of sexual assault is true.

Yeah. I don't think I'll vote on a hypothetical event. I'll wait until it happens and then give my opinion.

I voted yes, but not to the part about lying about it. I should have voted no for that part (tricky way to ask)

If he grabbed a boob in high school? That's not a disqualification in my book. I'm not going to hold a minor indiscretion from 35 years ago against a guy if there's no history of continuing behavior along those lines.

Exactly

Nope, now all the accuser's have to do is prove it to be true, so far they have provided no such proof.

No. Full stop. It would mean he did it then, and is lying about it at length now.

No, at this point they merely need to show that it is more likely than not to be true. Preponderance of evidence.

They haven't achieved THAT, either, but that is the standard.

Same here. I wouldn't disqualify him for what he did as a 17 y/o, but if it's true, lying about it now would be sufficient grounds.

You obviously didn't read my comments in the OP. Proving or disproving it is NOT the subject of this thread. There are many threads that address that topic. Jump on over to one of them and discuss it. Not here. Thanks.

You don't get to set the rules. Once you put the thread out there it's anybody's game. They are free to post as they see fit. If you want to control the game then do it with private emails.

IMO; unless there is some hard evidence, like a video tape or something, then these last minute histrionics wouldn't prevent me from voting to approve Kavanaugh. These charges should have been brought to the attention of authorities long before Kavanaugh was ever nominated. Even as late as the FBI vetting process, which should have turned up any questionable behavior... but at the last minute, looks like a witch hunt.

Not my standard, and shouldn't be anyone elses either. Never forget when standards are lowered they are lowered for everyone.

of course not, because not only is it a reflection of his past and possible current character him denying it and lying about it would be a direct indicator of his current character

if that doesnt matter to a person I think its very telling of who they are and where they stand

4 voted yes. A SCOTUS can be a sexual predator.

I wonder what their parents would think of their answer.

for accuracy at least one person took back thier yes vote. .

What if people who don’t like answering hypothetical questions just refrained from posting in threads about hypothetical questions?

Don't ever recall in the rules you have to like or agree with a thread to reply, in fact, that would eliminate almost all threads would it not.. How about I said if you do not like the post refrain do not comment on it? That would be an equally asinine request on my part.

No, you are confusing the standards we use before jailing someone with the standards we use before determining that something is more likely than not. For example, the evidence was against Hillary in the matter of her serial abuse of clarified information, and that was a perfectly reasonable reason for her not to be POTUS despite not being find guilty in a court of law.

If the charge is true, he should not be confirmed, and should be removed from his current position as a federal judge as well.

Additionally, if the accusation is true, if possible he should be charged with a crime - but it sounds like the event(s) Ford accuses him of occurred when he was a minor, so that might not be possible.

If the charge is not true his life should not be destroyed by liars paid by sleazy democrats to fabricate unbelievable tales which can never be proven.

What does it take to be shown true?
 • True by the rules of deductive reasoning?
 • True by the rules of inductive reasoning?
For me, true by either standard is sufficient.

Except that I don't believe her mishandling of classified data was a major reason that she was not elected.

That's nice. It's also a form of as populum. In the meantime, the point remains: the evidence against Hillary Clinton was enough that we could judge the likelihood of her guilt and act appropriately when measuring her fitness to be POTUS.

At most a minor reason.

Just like the Russian election meddling thing was a minor reason, at most.

I am sure that is hat determined how you voted ......

I agree. I found her unfit, as I did trump. It was a dark day for the Nation when the only two viable candidates were unfit for the office. If we as Americans do not Demand better then we get the government we deserve. I feel for the younger generations, those of us that came before them made a mess of things and it will be theirs to have to live with.

Feel free to go back a couple of years and check and see if I was consistent then, too.
