Ford and her lawyer have apparently gone comms dark and refused to respond to multiple invitations to actually come testify, despite earlier announcing their willingness to do so. Kavanaugh asked to testify and is apparently scheduled for Monday.

If Ford refuses to testify, is that discrediting to the argument that her case is powerful enough to justify derailing the Kavanaugh vote?

If the Judiciary Committee plans to just do a repeat of the Anita Hill testimony, as it appears so, her lawyer is needless to say negotiating with the Committee.
I would gander a guess they would require others to testify, including that other fellow present during the alleged assault.

If she testifies first, would she be given the opportunity to rebut others testifying?

Hopefully they have been reaching out to the right Dr. Ford. :lamo This is all either extremely odd, or extremely bad. None of it good.

Odd that her lawyer is saying she is willing to testify but that she hasn't been talking to seemingly anyone.
She could be getting together incriminating evidence against kavanaugh and her lawyer might have told her not to talk to anyone before decision of said hearing.

Either way, a lot can happen in six days.

No, I do not believe if a sexual assault/near rape victim refuses to testify publicly in front of a circus on national television, her claims should be automatically dismissed.

Does it present a problem? Yes, absolutely. But are there other ways to solve the problem? Absolutely. There's nothing which says she has to testify publicly on national television. Find some other way to get her story of what happened and then you can question Kavanaugh about it (publicly). After all, Ford is not the one desiring to be appointed to a lifetime job on the taxpayer dime on the highest court in the land.

..............and she should be charged/fined/incarcerated; whatever applies!

Of course, but she'll be there. This is her 15 minutes of fame, for which she will perpetually be a Democratic Party, feminist and #MeToo victim-hero.

She has not be subpoenaed by my understanding. If not, she has no requirement to attend.

Who should be subpoenaed is her psychologist and to bring her notes, as they contradict her story plus she did NOT name Kavanaugh in those notes.

Why should she? She’s the one making the allegation, if you let her “rebut” you’re just giving her the invitation to keep editing her story every time it gets discredited

If she doesn't appear on Monday, put the nomination to a vote.

Ah, you advocate she can tell her story privately and the accused has absolutely no right to cross examine her accusations? Only Kavanaugh can be questioned according to you.

By your message you vehemently oppose a person being able to face her/his accuser.

Why not let her rebut. If she lies, that would be perjury. Why rush?
It took a ton of gumption on her part to step forwards. Her life will never be the same.

so far there seems to be no evidence that her word is the truth.

There are now rumors that there was a Gorsuch letter and there is a photo making the rounds of the accuser protesting “not my President.”

This instant gratification age we inhabit makes it hard to separate the crap from the facts...if the Professor doesn’t show, she should be charged with wasting Congress’ precious time......./sarcasm off.

I don't recall Ford volunteering to be part of TV covered event, bringing back memories of the disgusting and vile way Anita Hill was treated 27 years ago. The GOP has galvanized around their guy, and the only acceptable outcome for them is to tear her limb from limb.

If there was any indication that there would be a fair hearing held, I think she'd show up.

Asked about the chairman's claim, a spokesman for the Judiciary Committee's ranking Democrat, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, told CNBC: "It could be that they haven't heard from her yet because they scheduled the hearing without first talking with her or her lawyer.

Because almost no one is ever prosecuted for perjury.

No it didn’t, she’ll be welcome at every Berkeley and Georgetown cocktail party no cover and every democratic fundraiser at no plate charge for the rest of her life. “Gumption”? Ha she’s clearly a lame professor if her rate my professor reviews are accurate but she’ll be courted for any job and immediate tenure at her choice of schools.

This is a tough question because the Supreme Court confirmation process is not quite the same as a Criminal Court Case, but that said this issue has been used by Democrats as a means to slow down the confirmation process.

It stands to reason that if Ford does not testify then the vote should occur. That does not "dismiss" the claims as Democrats will vote as they intended to anyway, all it does is remove this issue as the means to not have a vote.

Yes...for lack of a poll.

If that was the case, she (the lawyer) be answering their emails and phone calls. It seems she is not.

From USA Today yesterday: "'She is willing to do whatever it takes to get her story forth,' Ford's attorney, Debra Katz, said during an interview on NBC's 'Today' show." https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...anaugh-sexual-assault-allegations/1333161002/

Well we really do not know.
