To take the last statement first -- you have been listening to right-wing propaganda if you repeat the lie that Obama separated parents from children indiscriminately, the way Trump is doing. According to USA Today's factcheck,You can characterize the economy any way you want, everyone cherry picks the numbers. I personally think interest rates need to go a little higher, slowly, to be more in line with historical levels, and to give the Fed somewhere to go in the next recession. Higher rates will, however, decimate the Federal budget as we do have to service debt even if we don't pay down any principle. The tariff issue does need to be addressed, and tariffs reduced by all the players to a bare minimum. That seems to be Trump's desired goal, as he has said.
As to separating parents from children; it was done under Obama, and should continue. We have an obligation to those children once they cross the border to make sure they aren't being used as pawns by strangers, abused, sent over the border alone, and that whomever says they are the parent can offer some proof of that fact. We do the same here in this country when the family situation is under question. Put the kids in foster care until it's straightened out.
Separation under Obama occurred rarely, in cases when human trafficing was suspected or when there was doubt that the adults were relatives.“Bush and Obama did not have policies that resulted in the mass separation of parents and children like we’re seeing under the current administration,” Sarah Pierce, a policy analyst with the Migration Policy Institute, told us.

Regarding the first statement about the Fed. The Fed has a duel responsibility to control inflation and unemployment. The Fed raises interest rates when inflation is on the horizon or when the economy is overheating. It makes no sense to set a benchmark based upon historical interest rates, regardless of what was going on when those interest rates were in place.
If Trump's goal is to lower tariffs to the bare minimum, he has a funny way of doing it. G-7 nations already have low tariffs and nobody is taking advantage of poor little America. He's just doing what he does best, be a whinny little 8itch.
