Fairly straight-forward poll question. Will Trump pull the United States out of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the alliance tasked with containing Russian aggression, in 2018?

Options:

Yes, in 2018
Yes, but at some future point in his term
No, though he will effectively fracture NATO in some other way
No, not at any point in his administration

Frankly I'm not sure.
It's possible, but if he tries will the republicans let him?

No, but support them in a different way. NATO really makes no sense anymore.

Believing that requires...

a) not knowing what NATO is, and
b) being asleep throughout all of 2014. Actually it requires being asleep from 2014 to right now, in fact.

Are we still in NATO? Why? There is no Warsaw Pact anymore. There is no Soviet Union anymore. Haven't the Europeans rebuilt to the point they can afford to defend themselves? Haven't we spent too much on the military already? Maybe we need to bring some sanity to this situation and explain to the Europeans that we aren't their pet security force anymore. Do we really need 800 foreign bases? The Russians only have 1.....

There IS a Russia...

There IS a Russian...

You don't think the Europeans can handle that? Or that they just don't have the backbone? In which case they don't deserve our help.

No way it will happen politically until we pull all of our kids out of Afghanistan and any other area of conflict where we have been joined by NATO allies.

I guess I go out on a limb when I make this comment, not knowing what Putin will advise in closed door meetings. We will soon see.

Putin’s intelligence services are masters at digging up dirt on people and offering it to him as leverage. Now, am I saying Putin has compromising intel on Johnson and/or other prominent Republicans, up to and including the president himself? Yeah, he probably does.

He’s likely got it on Democrats too, but that really doesn’t do him much good right now.

I think its more of a matter of wanting the EU and its member states to take a more active role in command and financing NATO. A NATO that is very dependent upon the US is not a NATO that is as strong as it could be. NATO could be the force the EU wants but they have to show a stronger commitment to it, certainly as strong as the US commitment to it.

Trump will not pull out of NATO, but I wish he would.

The European Union is made up of 28 countries, so If the Euro's cannot handle their own against Russia then it doesn't say much for them.

I would love to see the American troops overseas brought back home permanently and save the billions of dollars we waste in Europe. Maybe, we even could use some of that money towards fixing healthcare.

in Reagan times, CIA´d just come to your place and kill you. reading you , anyone can see a total degradation of USA 2 party politic

Trump seems determined and unwavering to undermine/fracture the NATO alliance.

In effect, Donald Trump has become the assassin for the post-war international order which the United States itself has founded.

He wants the other members to pay their agreed apon share of the bill. What's wrong with that?

I mean, ****, the German army is training with broomsticks.

Germany ?Can?t Explain? Use of Broomsticks Instead of Guns in NATO Exercise

I wouldn't want to depend on them on the battlefield.

If that's what Putin wants then he probably will

Ask Ukraine.

Shouldn't the Europeans be backing Ukraine to the hilt? Isn't Ukraine their buffer against those horrible Russians, and therefore of utmost importance to them? Maybe the Europeans do need to increase their military spending in order to hold up their end of their own defense. That would be a welcome change.

Blackmail or a giant goddamn foreign contribution. We're witnessing the Invasion of the Bodysnatchers in real time.

I didn't mention any OIL and it is an exact quote from Henry Kissinger. You're fantasizing again.

Except, like I said before, it was a paraphrase of a very famous quite by Lord Palmerston.

No, you just mentioned fantasies about "corporate" wars. Which, as usual, reads "oil" when you decode it from the usual CTer fantasy land nonsense. Of course, the whole argument you put forward is a bad joke.

Oh really? And why do you think "NATO doesn't make sense anymore"?

Joine date: March 2018.

Look for a "The Ukraine wants to be a part of Russia"-esque argument in the near future.

"Westphalian" seems to be an out and out Putin supporter to me, but then again. maybe the universe just had to balance out Litvin.
